COMICS! |OT| August 2016. That's Rare Groove. Volume is Crucial.

Yeah it's a real bummer that lineup is breaking up. Waid's writing is so much stronger with the younger characters. At least he'll still be writing them. Champions could actually turn out to be a great book. But I don't have much hope for the new Avengers lineup.

But Night Thrasher tho

I'm expecting Night Thrasher to end up in Occupy Avengers.

I'll be reading the new Avengers book for Spider-Man and the creative team lol. I'm guessing Parker Industries will be funding the team.

Oh yeah I forgot they stuck Spider-Man in there.

He better stick around this time, the Uncanny Avengers thing was bullshit. Turned me off to that book for awhile.

It's amazing how both Remender's run and Duggan's run turned me off in a very short amount of time. That damn Havok speech and Spidey leaving. smh marvel

We traded Spider-Man for Cable lol.

Eh that's a good trade since the idea of Cable being an Avenger is inherently interesting. But still, I wanted my Spidey to do some cool ass shit on an Avengers team. I'm tired of every hero all over the world giving him shit.

Actually took a look at the october stuff again and things are less "rebooty" than I remembered.

Avengers still has half the team (Sam Cap, Vision, Jane Thor) and is still by Waid, who is also writing the kids in Champions.

Uncanny Avengers just straight up continues, not even a renumber.

Thunderbolts also (I thought it was canceled).

New Avengers is the first real victim, but there is still some sort of Bobby AIM team so that idea continues.

Sam and Jane still have their books.

Spider Woman, Surfer, Ant Man, Squirrel Girl, Patsy, Widow, Daredevil still continue.

It seems its mostly the X-Men books that get the axe, and me and BK are the only ones that care about those anyway :3

The X-Books aren't changing outside of Death of X and IvX.

Also, Ant-Man is done.

Not every book is a part of Marvel Now. Amazing Spider-Man for example isn't listed either.

Apparently Marvel comics stated at SDCC that all three X-books would still be continuing.

I dropped them all because my yearly X-Men-DC stanning cycle is now focused on the latter, but I'm definitely picking up Death of X and IvX.

I did not know that, cool. Do we know who is on them?

Because Ramos for example is on Champions now?

How do you not put Sandoval on a fucking X-Men book is baffling.

Baffling Marvel.

The story for this week's Archie was good, but I didn't care for the art and designs that came with it. Betty continues to be the best character while Archie somehow keeps getting away with being a terrible person.

Agreed, for a battle of the bands type of issue, I wish they could have found artist who make more creative paneling. The issue felt like a filler even though it had a reconciliation between Archie and Betty, which seemed shallow. Next issue looks like it will be an end of the arc, looking forward to Joe Eisma.

Victor Ibanez is on Extraordinary starting from the issue that came out this week.

I don't really like that Archie and probably Veronica will be getting off easy and we're supposed to feel bad for them.

Yeah, Waid is using that history between Arch/Betts to clear up the air between them was pretty weak.

Also, the only time I've felt bad for Veronica was during her breakdown in the supermarket, otherwise she's been the definition of a brat, but I do admire her loyalty for Archie.

Okay, let's see what kind of shitposting went on during the night -

Can we have end of the year awards for posters? We should have a 'prodigal son' award for a poster that comes back and posts to a high standard like this Donnie guy.

We should also have an award for comeback fake out and give it to filthy slug.

No joke donnie is the hero we needed right now

Note to self: Announce you're going to bed more often, comicsgaf only says nice things about you when they think you're not watching.

Unless you're Slug or Kipp. Then they don't say nice things at all.

Nah. Square Enix are ripping people off on this one. They're actually one-time-use and can only be used on one save. So it's not like you get x# of praxis kits every time you start a new game. Just the one time.

Haha, would anyone ever even need to buy these? By the time I got to the dude in the bookstore and got calibrated, I had 12 praxis kits in my inventory.

I preordered Rise of Iron. I am fucked.

Haha I haven't pre-ordered yet but I spent all of last week doing the iron banner, I'm pretty hooked again and I have half the credit on my MS account anyway, I'll probably go in for it.

So honestly I was going to post a cool Damian pic to show all you Damian haters why you are so wrong but I had to close my browser because among the first image results was some fan art of Batman doing his own son Damian with their cowls on. What the fuck is wrong with you internet!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL WTF. When you say cool damian pic, did you go ahead and google cool damian porn? hahaha. What is this life.

Some people hate the initial slog of leveling up in the beginning of a game so much that they'll pay to avoid it, apparently. It seems unnecessary in this case since there's a New Game+ mode for everyone to be OP in.

Maybe when Filthy Slug uploads the picture of him and Kipp, from when they allegedly met irl

I lit the Kipp signal, Now to sit back and see if he reacts. Slug, I know you're just sitting there rereading Rotworld, so I'll give you a pass.
Not. Get your ass in here, no more Lapham for you.

Rhaknar reading all that Marvel stuff got me in the mood to read some Marvel myself. Before that I hadn't read anything new on MU for 9 or 10 weeks.

Spidey #2 and #3 - This book is just plain fun. It's really the only Peter Parker book I need.

Squadron Supreme #3 and #4 - The dialogue in this books is just plain terrible at times but I'm enduring it for now because for some reason I'm interested to see where this story is going.

Deadpool/Cable Split Second #6 - Yeah this is sucks. I gave up after about 5 panels and just skimmed the rest. Didn't seem to get any better. No idea how I made it through the first 5.

That'll be it for moment. Gotta let my tablet charge. My reading list for the rest of the weekend......

Extraordinary X-Men 5-7
Deadpool 5-7
All New Wolverine 4 and 5
Power Man and Iron Fist 1
Spidey/Deadpool 1 and 2
A-Force 1 and 2
Mockingbird SHIELD 50th Anniversary #1
Spider-Woman 3 and 4
Vision 3 and 4
Uncanny Avengers 3 and 4
The Ultimates 3 and 4
New Avengers 5 and 6

You should check out Old Man Logan. Silver Surfer is also above average IMO, though it would probably be better to read the previous run first even if it's not necessary.

What book?
Avengers 1.1.

If ya'll want Kipp to show up all you gotta do is ask and I'll text him.

Also, you're more likely to get a Kipp + Messi + Zombine pic before you ever see the Kipp+Filthy yaoi pic.

marvel stuff

How wordy is that spidey book? I was considering it for my boy (hes 8), the content looks spot on and it like that's it's off in its own corner, but obviously the audience for it is primarily adults so was wondering about the actual writing being digestible enough for him.

Wouldn't mind hearing what you think of power man iron fist either :)

Well.....that's disgustingly straight forward.

Hell yeah they do. We all know Doom Patrol is gonna be great, but Shade and Cave Carson are so my jam. Mother Panic looks the least interesting to me, but I'm still gonna check it out.

Doom Patrol was a definite, but all the others went from "huh?" to must-buy when I checked 'em out.

The first few chapters of Asterios Polyp have been amazing so far. Even though the pages layouts have quite a bit of negative space, the book reads rather slow paced. You kinda just bask in the glory of the style.

If you are into the more theoretical side of comics studies, you should probably check out this Youtube channel, Strip Panel Naked. Looks pretty new, but the guy is spot on with his analysis. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYJAToPH5GSGShP7Yoc3jsA

Dan Slott is still deal with people tweeting at him over the Mary Jane thing and it has gotten to the point where people are criticizing him for not proving the existence of Jesus and using it to say he's wrong about a black MJ being ok lol.

What do we count as the start. I suffered through heroes reborn, I can tell you all about that if you want.

Also. National burger day may be over.

But it's a good day for hotdogs
We had a couple starting from the very start of Marvel. IIRC one of them reached some good Thor issues before we stopped getting updates.

Thanks but I'm gonna have to pass. I don't like either character or creative team.

I winced when I read that one. Not read old man logan, but you do t like lemire at all? Sweet Tooth? The nobody? The Underwater Welder? His work for hire stuff isn't nearly as good as his own stuff, but I honestly think Sweet Tooth is an incredibly well conceived and executed series.

Dan Slott's Silver Surfer run is a lot of fun though and I'm saying that as someone that never was a big fan of the character. He's not the sole main character in those books.

I don't hate Lemire but at this point he's proven nothing to me. I haven't read Sweet Tooth though. Just Plutona and the first 4 issues of Ex X-Men. The next Lemire book I try will probably be Black Hammer.

It wouldn't matter who writes OLM though. I'm character first when it comes to big 2 books and I've never liked Logan at any age. I've only ever read his books when crossovers have forced me to.

As for Spidey your son should be just fine. It's a very brisk read that seems to be aimed at kids/young teens.

XO Manowar is good so far. Not bad, not great, just good or maybe about decent with the last few issues. Moves along at a quick enough pace and doesn't bore but feels like I've barely read anything on the main character despite being 11 issues in.

He feels more like a device to move the plot forward then an actual character.

Actually, most of the characters are kinda just boring.
