I've only gotten into 2000AD these past 3-4 years but its probably one of my favourite comics. So many talented people have been working for it over the years. Shame that so many other British comics have folded over the years though.

When I was a lad we had the Sparky and the Victor and the Tiger and the Topper and the Beezer and the Valiant and the Eagle, etc, etc, etc, but they're all gone (I think) and even something like the Beano is on life support. There's the Phoenix I suppose but I think almost any other comic on the shelves is licensed tie-in adventures featuring a plastic gun. 2000AD had it's low period (I think I stopped reading it about the time of the Sex issue), but it's been mostly great in the last few years.

I've got old annuals of the Sparky, Victor, Tiger, Valiant and Topper but they had all finished by the time I was born. The Beezer was still making annuals until 1998 and the Buster still had a comic till 2000. Then the Dandy folded last year which sucked. I've wanted to read the Phoenix and some of the other new comics coming out but most of them have to be bought online I think. Wish they would have reprint collections of Leo Baxendale and Ken Reids comics from their IPC/Oldham days.

Man, I looooooved those first 6 or so issues of Catwoman. March was the perfect artist for it and draws a sexy and sharp looking Selina and I really liked how straight up adult it was. And then the internet shit its pants when issue 1 came out so that was the end of that. I really liked the fence story too, I thought Selina's rage at the climax of that story was very understandable and affecting. March was so good with her eyes in this, that blank horrified stare was perfect.

Yo, I completely agree with you here, Jedeye. Winnick is usually pretty shit but the first Catwoman arc was really solid, and I enjoyed the sexiness that Selina's character propagated. It wasn't distasteful at all, as the character has built-in sex appeal, so why not bolster her set of skills with it, and keep it all self-aware. Also, that March art was spectacular.

Shame it got shit on by people who didn't really read it and just wanted to be outraged over fetish-drenched comic book characters acting like fetish-drenched comic book characters.

Yeah totally. One of my favourite bits in All Star Batman is when Bats bangs Black Canary at the docks "We keep our costumes on" haha! Of course they would, kinky bastards. I think the crossover of superheroes, violence and sexuality is fascinating. Almost as interesting as some comics fans' near-allergic aversion to it.

The March art in that story was neat too, I love how brazen Selina is there. "Yup, these the goods!" that's hot.

I should really go back an re read that first arc. It didn't offend me at all and I'm sure in hindsight it will seem much better vs the current book. It's sad that they have almost completely stripped away Catwomans sexuality from her. That arc was blatantly sexual but it fits in with the kind of person Catwoman is or should be. It's almost odd how they avoid it now.

Who would be able to write a decent catwoman? I'd love Layman but I doubt that's possible or Snyder bar eternal but that's highly unlikely. She deserves to be in a great book and not some mid level throwaway book.

So I was in the store today and a guy rushed in wearing a trench coat and picked up like 30 books. I had left my pile on a counter and he went through them and took my copy of Hawkeye. He then started sniffing his books and being really intense, he was pacing around the store like a madman. Totally weird situation. He made me feel very uncomfortable. Rafa are you in Ireland?

I love you Rafa really

Messi, you let someone take a copy from your pull list? And your store guy sold it to him? And you didn't fight either of them?

I don't use a pull list, I left them on a counter and he just went through it while I was 3-4 steps away and just took Hawkeye.

He made me uncomfortable so I didn't confront him. It seemed like he was crazy.

Again, you didn't say, "Hey breh, that's mine?" and your store guy was like, "I ain give a shit I'll sell Messi 's books 247." And you didn't throw punches?

That shit would get me heated. I've dropped stores completely for selling my books.

Edit: GOTTA BE ALPHA COMIC. TAKE ZERO SHITS. YOUR PURCHASE IS 20% OF THAT DAYS SALES.

This is why I both miss going to the store and do not miss it at all. I always used to get there at the same time as this mad hippy dude that only bought the worst T&A books on the stands and then would talk about them. Lots. You couldn't fault his enthusiasm but the dude did my head in.

I miss my first store - I eventually got a flat that was 2 mins from there, it was a golden age. Then they had to shut down in the mid 2000s :(

It wasn't near the till the store is hardly at fault.

I could have taken him. I am fairly big. Like 6'7.

Should I read Gillen's Young Avengers?

Some controversial and contradictory opinions about this one. I'm not a veteran of this thread, but I do enjoy comics.

I read it and kind of enjoyed it. It wasn't amazing, but it certainly passed the time in a good way. I wasn't as excited by it as I was the original Young Avengers by Heinberg and Cheung, but if you have ever read any of Gillen's and McKelvie's previous work and liked it, then you cannot go wrong with this!

At the very least it is a very pretty looking book.

Can someone help me out here?

So, I've been reading Hawkeye in trades. The third volume comes out in August. Here's what confuses me:

The first volume was: Issues 1-5

The second volume was: Issues 6-11.

The third volume is: Hawkeye Annual 1,and Issues 14, 16-18, 20

So, uh, where are Issues 12, 13, 15 and 19?

I found this way more amusing than it should. And a little sad.

The issues collected are all Kate Bishop stories, I'm assuming the fourth TPB will be all Clint's stories.

Kate issues, there will apparently be in a separate trade for Kate and clint.

They are better than the clint issues too.

There were delays in getting the Clint issues out so they put out Kate issues.

Here's what Matt Fraction had to say:

TRADE 3 will be called L.A. WOMAN. It will collect Kate’s Summer Fun Adventure:
THE ANNUAL, #14, #16, #18, and #20.

TRADE 4 will be called RIO BRAVO. It will collect Clint’s slow-motion nervous breakdown in the lead-up to his darkest hour
#17, #12, #13, #15, #19, #21, #22

I would imagine those trades will be out just as rapidly as the second trade followed the publication of #11, that is to say, as fast as the printing process will allow. I might be wrong; I have no idea about these things. The shipping guesstimates offered above are just that, guesstimates. That said, none of that is within my realm of understanding or control I don’t know when anything happens or why. Sometimes I think I understand how long a book takes to go from printer to stands and then something like, say, the holidays happen and it takes 7 weeks. Sometimes giant books happen and everything gets knocked off-schedule at the printer. So the answer is always I don’t know. I just write ‘em.

That said: here we are.

I promise, everyone at marvel, I’ll start writing the correct numbers on the scripts now.

So one is all of Kate's stories, one is all of Clint's.

Black Science is on another level. If Bellegarde never makes it back to Nowhere Men, this will certainly ease the pain.

I love the bodyguard character. People really reacted well and fell head-over for Deadly Class but for me, Black Science hit so much harder and has been utterly dominant. Can't wait for this issue!

Speaking of Hawkeye, I really liked today's Clint/Aja issue. The "deaf" issue they do next time around should be the 2014 equivalent of "Pizza is my Business"
