COMICS!!! |OT| January 2017 This is the Dawning of the Age of Apocalypse

I think the move makes sense in that a lot of people were selling and sharing codes, but Marvel should've found some way to add some sort of additional value to make up for it that people actually want.

How much impact did selling codes really have? The subreddit for selling codes only has 1,251 subscribers. Not a great way of determining how many people are getting codes on the grey market, but it doesn't seem like a big enough number to dent those Diamond numbers.

And they are adding more titles than they are canceling at the moment
It seems that way but I'm not sure it's actually the case.

I know sharing is big with a certain audience.

Boxes of Cracker Jacks come with these shit little paper prizes. Marvel replaced their codes with shit little paper prizes.

Marvel books used to come with a digital copy of the book you bought. Now they are going to stop doing that and change it with a shitty "book of the month."

I think it's about to shift as the new books are slowing down and there are several books in the danger zone, but they launched a ton of books over the last couple of months. I think I have a little over a dozen Marvel books at #1 or #2. Go back to the beginning of Now 2.0 and it's probably more like twenty books. And that's just what I'm pulling (I pull about half of Marvel's catalog).

I agree about the new books, but quite a few have ended since the start of Marvel Now.

Lady Killer vol 1 was pretty good, it felt like walking into a moment in a story already in progress but was good enough to justify it. Random 5/10 because I was going to give it an 8/10 but people hate that.

I lurk enough in here I may as well start posting.

I'm pretty much all Marvel. I used to read DMZ back in the day, and have a few trades but I stopped. I've dabbled in an MU subscription, and one of the only games I play these days is Marvel Puzzle Quest (still, after 3 years). DC just doesn't interest me, and I would only be reading comics at all because of my interest in the MCU and then me playing MPQ.

Fortunately, I have a really great local shop, and I only get floppies. I have some trades, but with Civil War II, Coates writing Black Panther and the Marvel Now relaunch, I figured it was time to get some ongoing books.

Currently I subscribe to:
Black Panther
Avengers
Great Lakes Avengers
Unworthy Thor
Star-Lord
Hawkeye
World of Wakanda

There might be another one or two I'm missing, off the top of my head. I also recently picked up the #1s of Gamora and Hulk, but I haven't actually read them yet, so I may wind up adding them to my list. I tend to take my time getting to my books, so I also might join in conversation about various titles a few days/a week later.

Also I'm in Canada so things cost more here :(

Enough about me, though, this is becoming a short story itself.

Happy to stop lurking!

So, I need Moon Girl and the Wasp ASAP. Either have them both going Champions or launch a new series.

And Riri should be involved.

Whitley says she's coming. Riri still getting pushed hard despite being Iron Man for like 2 issues...only she's not Ironheart yet.

So I'm reading the original Stan Lee/Jack (The Real Man) Kirby Uncanny X-Men run on MU, and I spotted that infamous moment where Xavier has his inner love creep thoughts on Jean. That guy definitely was on a watch-list.

Also, I've noticed that in the first two issues Hank McCoy was written like a tough-talking guy (similar to The Thing in FF). It's not until issue #3 where his personality completely changes to be the articulate Beast we all know. Has Lee ever explained why this is?

Comic author Gerard Jones arrested for child pornography. I don't think I've ever read any of his work but it seems his work was popular back in the day? Idk but even just reading what he's been arrested for makes me physically sick

Holy fucking shit

Not sure if I've ever read one of his comics, but I am familiar with him as an author

I feel sick

Edit: Yeahhhh I've definitely read The Trouble with Girls
