For me, listening to NIN's 'right where it belongs' greatly increased my enjoyment of American Jesus. Can we officially endorse Reznor as the go to for comics music listening?

After i got settled in to comic reading i bought a lot of used trades....so my backlog is about 100 books or more of things that i will only read when the world ends and all i have are my glasses and comics.

oh i forgot about the first paperback Fourth World Omnibus (which'll probably be the only one i'll own for awhile bc of those crazy as fuck OOP prices) and Morning Glories vol 1

or maybe Batman: Year Two by Mike W. Barr, Alan Davis, and Todd McFarlene. In which Batman teams up with the man who killed his parents, using the very same gun that shot them down on Crime Alley.

No, because is there anyone who hasn't read that? That's one of those initiation books pushed onto new readers, alongside Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, and Hush

and i'm sorry guys, but to be fair it's basically next in my queue

My backlog is insane. Some of the heavy hitters on here should indicate what decade I stopped reading comics. I have all of this either sitting on a bookshelf or digitally. I have read none of it. The saddest part is it reads like a Comics Greatest Hits list.

100 Bullets
Astro City (post-1996)
Batman (Morrison)
Bone
Chew
DMZ
Doctor Strange (assorted old school trades)
Fatale
Fear Agent
Hellblazer
Hellboy
Invincible
Marvel Cosmic (post-Annihilation)
Maus
Miracleman
Planetary
Preacher
Runaways
Sandman
Sin City

This year I knocked out Ghost World, all of Punisher MAX, Annihilation, American Vampire, Daredevil volume 3, and all of Saga so far.

Where do I go next?

Well, I read a comic once again! It was the fifth of the Sonic Saga line. And it was okay, not too bad considering it was drawing a lot from the godawful, terrible Knuckles backstory characters/plot stuff. And in Flynn's continued efforts of cleaning up the universe after taking over, he killed off Knuckles' terrible dad! Yay!

Also, how's this for a sign to clean up a floor: I just got a damn pin stuck in my foot. It was from some knickknack oversized thing you'd pin on a jacket or whatever and it must have fallen down there at some point, and it stuck right in there. Fortunately it wasn't in deep or anything and my tetanus shots should be up to date, but yeah... that was a new one.

Alright from what I'm reading and what's been solicited in January for All-New X-men..

Ultimate Universe Rogue is coming to the 616? Does this shit not get any lazier? jfc

Epic fail you mean.

The idea that Joker can get to the entire justice league like that on his own is beyond stupid.

It's comics, at least wait for an explanation. Shit, it's not just comics it's everything. It's like judging a book from a single chapter or a TV series from the first episode. Besides, it's not like it's being done by a crappy creative team that pulls shit out of their asses all the time.

I wonder if all this is just Bendis going YOINK before they close shop on the Ultimate U? If they are killing the universe off in an incursion I'd like Miles to survive it at least.

I get the impression that gketter means overexposure in a short time span. It's one thing for long established, popular characters, vs those who appeared in a single movie and because of that they're crossing over with and appearing in anything and everything, regardless of whether it makes any sense or not.

So, again I cut my pulllist a little bit and realized there's only one Marvel book on it. Can you guys recommend a book for someone who doesn't know jack about Marvel except the MCU?

So, again I cut my pulllist a little bit and realized there's only one Marvel book on it. Can you guys recommend a book for someone who doesn't know jack about Marvel except the MCU?

Just in general, can be any character? I put this together for someone recently:

- Hulk: Planet Hulk & Hulk: Grey
- Ultimate Spider-man (Brian Bendis)
- The Ultimates vol 1 & 2 (Mark Millar) Avengers for new readers. Do not read vol 3
- Daredevil: The Man Without Fear (Frank Miller) Great origin story. If you like this, check out Miller's entire run on the character and Born Again. Then there's Brian Bendis' incredible run too. Then Brubaker and Waid. There's a lot of great Daredevil stuff, but start with Man Without Fear.
- Iron Man: Extremis (Warren Ellis). The essential Iron Man in 1 trade.
- Grant Morrison's New X-Men & Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men.
- Hawkeye (Matt Fraction)
- The Superior Foes of Spider-man: this focuses on a bunch of d-list loser villains of Spider-man, very smart and funny. Highly recommended
- Thor: The Mighty Avenger (Langridge) Entry book for Thor.
- Hickman's Fantastic Four: apparently also very newbie-friendly. There's one omnibus available, and a second coming later this month. I have the omnibus and I'm curious, since I haven't read anything FF yet.
- Garth Ennis' Punisher, both Marvel Knights and MAX.

edit: maybe you meant current books only? Not much help there :)

Kipp

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Probably gonna use that Barnes and Nobles sale to get into Snyder's Batman. Either that or Morrison's, but I feel Snyder's may be more easily accessible for someone who doesn't have a wealth of Batman/DC knowledge.

Morrison really only utilizes Batman/DC knowledge in his run similar to how easter eggs are used in games. They're there and if you notice them/catch the reference you'll be able to go "Hah! He got *insert seemingly random thing here* from *insert random Batman issue from decades ago here*!" Most of the stuff he pulls from is so obscure that even fairly hardcore Batman fans wouldn't catch the references without wikipedia or something.
Now, Snyder's run probably is more accessible, but that's just because Morrison's writing is Morrison's writing. It makes complete sense and it's written very well, but it will require a bit of thinking on your part and doesn't really hold your hand much. And the way Morrison writes in general (jumps from one thing to another without much warning, for example) can be a tiny bit confusing to the uninitiated.

Anyways, not trying to dissuade you from getting Snyder's run first, but don't let the fact that you haven't read much Batman previously stop you from getting Morrison's run. I think I had only read Hush and Year One before reading Morrison's run and I loved it.

Sounds like a solid plan. I'll start Preacher next to see what all the hype is about.

Awesome. I'm starting my reread of it after I finish the Manhattan Projects OHC and I'm so excited.

DC announces 9 week event 'Convergence'

For 2015's annual "big event,'' DC Comics is mashing up stories and characters from 80 years of comic-book history while also introducing a big bad villain.

The company is putting its line of superhero comic books on hiatus for two months for Convergence, a nine-week miniseries kicking off with a zero issue April 1. The story line will spill into 40 two-part miniseries in April and May featuring a variety of writers and artists examining the worlds of the DC Universe over the decades, as well as the heroes and villains contained within.

"It captures the full essence and scope of DC's incredible history and storytelling," says co-publisher Dan DiDio.
"There is a story and a character for every generation of DC Comics fan."

Since DC rebooted its entire superhero line as part of "The New 52" relaunch in 2011, fans have wondered if certain key moments in DC lore — the death of Superman, Bane breaking Batman's back, etc. — still "counted" in continuity, says co-publisher Jim Lee.
And there's the fact that people have also queried them about what happened to certain favorite characters and teams such as Donna Troy, Blue Beetle and the Justice Society of America, and why they haven't been reintroduced while others have.
"What we're really addressing is they all exist and have existed and exist within the framework of the New 52," Lee explains. "Convergence is in many ways the most meta epic event we've done."

Yep, any character is fine, but it should be fairly self-contained and be fit for a Marvel noob. Garth Ennis' Punisher is already on my list of stuff to read and an Iron Man story by Warren Ellis also sounds very interesting. I didn't really like Hawkeye (sorry).
But yea, generally I'd also like a current book I could catch up on and maybe read monthly.

Wooo, backlogs:

Alias omnibus
The Batman Adventures - Mad Love and Other Stories
Daredevil by Mark Waid Vol. 1
Essential Doctor Strange Vol. 3 (partially read)
Howard the Duck omnibus (partially read)
The Immortal Iron Fist Complete Collection Vol. 1
Infinity omnibus (partially read)
Injustice: Gods Among Us Vol. 1
Sex Criminals - One Weird Trick
She-Hulk - Law and Disorder
Silver Surfer - New Dawn

Ugh. All that stuff you remember still happened! Only now it's written by Tony Daniel and the history is all fucked. DC continuing to half-arse their reboot. This will only create problems for continuity nerds and will be pale remixes of better stories. Mark my words.

Sounds remarkably like the teaser images released by a certain company over the last couple weeks... ;)

I wonder if there will still be a gimmick month next September. If so they'll have three months where the regular line is put on hold. Good luck crafting stories around that mess!

Interesting tidbit from the article (spoilers for basic plot line details)

Convergence spins out of the April 1 finales of the Earth 2: World's End and The New 52: Futures End weekly series.
The alien supervillain Brainiac has trapped cities from various timelines and planets that have ended, brought them in domes to a planet outside of time and space, and is now opening them for a great experiment to see what happens when all these folks meet.

Bottled Cities from failed timelines

looking forward to your random review of it in November 2015

I skipped Eternal, Earth 2's thing, and Future's End. I typically buy the big events but when they go weekly with mixed writers i don't bother. If this 40 issue blob of continuity has defined ideas by a writer i like, i might dabble into one or two..

while former Superman scribe Scott Lobdell is helping to lay out the overall outline of the story
