I can see ASM #700 shaping up now...
A dying, frantic Doctor Octopus rallies his villainous friends for one final, desperate attack on Spider-Man. But Spider-Man perseveres, defeating his entire rogues gallery like never before, and with some timely interventions from his amazing friends. And in the end, Ock can only watch helplessly, his body shutting down, the light fading from his eyes, as the webbed wallcrawler stands triumphant over all, proving himself... the Superior Spider-Man.

Now read that with #698 spoilers in mind and try not to get salty. :D

They have done some ballsy shit with Spider-Man for the last some years.
I actually hope they have the balls to keep it up and play it completely out. And i mean completely out like through all the marvel books spider-man appears in

Damn. My mind. This is gonna blow up one way or another. Although one more day would make sense if this stretches far enough.....

How so?

Moving away from ASM, Capullo Rocks! Also what kind of plans do you think Snyder has for Nightwing?
SlWhH.jpg

Nightwing is going to kill the Joker. He isn't Bruce and Joker is going to far this time.

Dan Slott is fucking nuts. He DMed me asking to delete my tweet mentioning the #699 cover, even though it's publicly available on the website of the company that's supposed to be keeping the SHOCKING TWIST a secret and I didn't even link to it. Not sure why I decided to humor him.

There's a really great sale on Comixology for those of you interested. It's a crash course for Ultron comics. For $0.99 a pop, you can get:

- Mighty Avengers #1-6: This wasn't actually that hot. It was basically the Post-Civil War Avengers, but not the cool, New Avengers team. The other one that Iron Man had going. Nice art by Frank Cho, though.

- Annihilation Conquest: This is a really good one. Recommended.

- Avengers #0, 19-22: This is the Busiek/Perez Avengers from the late 90s/early 2000s. Very different than the Avengers you'd get today, but still really fun in that old-school sense. Uncomplicated.

- Moon Knight #1-12: Bendis and Maleev are a really great team. I liked this book a lot.

- The Avengers #1-6: The first arc from the flagship "Heroic Age" book. This is the most pertinent thing to read if you want to get up to speed on Age of Ultron. Written by Bendis with art by JRJR.

IDK man. Dick kills Joker and causes a split in the Bat fam. Jason, Babs, and Dick on one side. While Bruce, Tim, and Dam on the other. You got your Death of the Family right there.

I find it funny Bruce considers Jason enough of family to add him to the Bat family call out during the Court of Owls, but not enough to say come over for a picture. It's like "I feel guilty about everything...but not THAT guilty."

Good show Bruce.

Unless you're talking about Ock remaining Spidey while Peter dies in Ock's body, then
I don't see how that would make people mad...

It is kind of funny, but would Jason even have shown up? Also I forget if Barbara was there or not.

I can think of another way that spoiler would fit in this story, but its more of a good end compared to your fucked end.

I still think Slott is fucking with everyone.

I wish. I've crossed to the other side now...

In the past, my full guess was as follows:
Parker and Ock end up sharing the body. But for Peter to die and Ock to become Spider-Man... that WOULD be intriguing, to say the least. I suppose he would be motivated by Parker's memories to continue being Spider-Man, but... that seems more like an arc thing than a full comic change. Hm.
I guess I'll find out by the end of Superior #1.
Also, is there a telepath in the house?

Barbara wasn't present. Mostly because she has a family, well a dad. Apart of the family, but not apart of the "family"

Ah yeah I guess so. Hard to say for sure since they don't dwell on public knowledge too much.

I forgot about that, maybe I never knew since I don't read Batman Inc

HAve you read batman inc?

Negative, should I? Spoil me in regards Jason por favor.

I'm now wondering how this all fits in with the things Madame Web has been saying this whole time. Hmmmm.

well its no over yet but batman trusted jason enough to pair him with damian as an stand in while bruce was busy elsewhere. it seems there relationship is not a strained as one might think.

Mindless spiderman speculation DO NOT CLICK UNLESS YOU WANT TO

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

what if who ever is in the body loses spidys powers as well. thus the need for the claws, eyes and why ockpeter was talking about making web fluid. it could be just like how he disabled his spider sense but on a larger scale.

also has ock been spify since the end of EOTE or just before goblin war?

Two things:

1. Caught up on Waid's Daredevil, fucking great book. So much fun to read and great art. Really looking forward to seeing what Waid can do with Hulk.

2. FF 1234 is was pretty great, Morrison wrote the shit of it.

Ok so I'm starting ASM "Big Time" this instant. Anything I need to read prior to this/in parallel to this? Does the Venom series tie in or is it unnecessary?

I haven't read spidey since like the early 90s.

Does the quality dip at all when Cullen Bunn takes over?

I believe Venom doesn't start til the point one issue of ASM.
I didn't like the first arc and dropped it. The Remender stuff ended really well but it didn't help that that first Bunn arc is super stupid and not at all interesting.

Two things:

1) A Spidey story this big shoulda had better art
2)
If this is the "dark" he's going for, I'm 100% on board. (Even though I was comically wrong about Osborn. While this is definitely a rough turn of events, it's actually a pretty fun idea. I thought Slott would have Spidey walk in to has apartment and find Carlie Cooper in the fridge or some shit.

Faith in Slott Spidey redeemed.

That said, this will be the worst drawn book of speculator value of all time.

Haha, it felt super weird to see the artwork since I didn't see the artist creds: Richard Elson a UK artist that did 2000AD but I mainly knew him as the Sonic the Comic UK artist:
7bque.jpg

A weird nostalgia bonk that I imagine only fellow Brits will feel, especially when the random mook shows up.

As well written as the issue was (horror story feel), the idea is still powerfully fucking stupid and I hope it doesnt last beyond 700 but probably will. So Stegman's run will be marred by the "not MY Spider-Man" kind of bum rap that Ben Reilly experienced. Its also unsustainable I feel to even last a few issues if things stay the same, since
supporting cast would have to be intentionally written as total retards to not notice something
since this kind of thing has happened countless times before.

Peter Parker is a flake & wierdo to most of his supporting cast. I'd only expect those who know both sides of him to sense something's amiss.

Although it would be hilarious if the Superior Spider-man went around spouting grandiose monologues.

Just caught up. Since I haven't read a Spidey book since BND, I'm a bit behind, but the spoiler doesn't seem that shocking, tbh. I can't really talk about why without spoiling stuff, but they do stuff like this all the time.

But, probably (definitely) something I've missed over the past, what, 5 years?

Yea I don't see whats so shocking, as the whole thing screams about how easy it would get reversed. The whole thing is so obviously temporary which makes it just not that exciting. We've gone through this type of crap before. Have a hard time seeing them making this last long but they've done worse.

Edit: And this will of course no matter what will be reverted and back to the status quo in time for the next Spidey movie

How the fuck can you be excited for this? While I will agree that no idea, no matter how stupid it sounds, can't be salvaged by good execution (exhibit A: most of Geoff Johns' career), the guy doing the executing is DAN FUCKING SLOTT. Exhibit B, from ASM #697 :

Why do you expect anything from someone who's been so terrible? What's wrong with you?

I think you're the only person in this entire thread who hates Dan Slott. I think we should be asking what's wrong with you(besides the fact that you're a fuckin' nutter, if some of your whiny, aggressive, condescending, "fuck fuck fucking fuck" as half your vocabulary, look I read this comic before you, shitstain posts let on).

Dude, you're pretty much the only one who feels this way. It's something different that as of the first chapter is pretty well done. Stop hating and just have fun.

I think y'all need to chill the F out and get ready for some real hype news!

More ROM COMics?! :O

On my wish list of things I want to see in comics, the return of ROM is pretty close to the top, but due to a notoriously complicated licensing deal, the Greatest of the Spaceknights has been trapped in publication limbo for the past two decades. Now, however, it looks like there might be some progress: On November 7, Hasbro filed for a new trademark for ROM.

...

The problem -- from a trademark standpoint, at least -- is that Mantlo dropped ROM directly into the Marvel Universe. Since the character was a blank slate with vague descriptions of "sending evil creatures to the Shadow Zone," everything that made ROM distinctive to fans, from the planet Galador to the Dire Wraiths to his relationship with Brandy Clark, is tied into the larger Marvel Universe and is still owned by the House of Ideas today.

Yeah, put Ryan Stegman on this and we're good. :3

Meanwhile Dan Slott is wondering what the fuck is wrong with you
or people with your exact attitude

Show of hands: How long does it take you guys to get through an issue of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN-- while giving it a good read?
ASM is NOT a standard "decompressed" comic. If you're blasting through it in 5 minutes, you're really not reading all of it are you?

Bull. With a good artist, the characters "act." If you're cramming/chugging/blasting your way through a comic, you're missing all of it.

Comics are the blending of words AND art. Right there you're talking about blasting through half the mix. How are you going to get a FAIR "read" of the comic.
ALSO, you've stated over and over again your bias against this title in its current incarnation. You're walking into it with an agenda. You WANT to not like it. You WANT it to be bad. And that's the mindset you have when you're plowing through it as quickly as you can in the store. In what world is that even remotely taking in the full measure of the story?

Aaaand there you have it. Dude, you're skipping through the story. Just move on. You're NOT reading it. You're scanning it for the SOLE purpose of having some kind of "ammunition" so you can come onto these boards and bitch and bitch and bitch about it. That's NOT reading. That's loading up to troll. Seriously, there are better ways to spend your time on this earth than that.

I know as you type up your response-- in your head-- you REALLY do think that you're NOT a hater. That you're NOT being a troll. That you are acting and behaving in a reasonable manner. But stop for a sec. Take a breath. Look at this objectively. A LONG time ago you READ the book (for real) and decided you DIDN'T like it. THAT'S COOL. That's an honest opinion and EVERYONE is entitled to that. But somewhere down the line you made a HABIT of being "that guy" who clogs up the aisle, reads the book in the store as FAST as possible, ALREADY LOCKED IN THE MINDSET that you're going to HATE it, just so you can "arm yourself" with enough examples so you can jump onto the message boards and bitch about it. That's who you are now. That guy. Who does this regularly-- every time the book comes out. Week after week after week after week. Maybe it's time to give it a rest? Read the book or DON'T. But don't think that what you're doing IS reading the book. Because it's NOT. It's gathering up little hate-bombs to lob on the internet. And, c'mon, deep inside you know you're better than that.

"You're reading it wrong" is not a salient argument in any discussion ever, no matter how talented you are. And no artist, no matter how talented, can fill the glaring plotholes in Slott's writing, nor can they justify that things just end up happening for no reason other than the fact they must happen because Spider-Man is your wish fulfillment character who's so great and amazing and awesome at everything.

Again, it's not that I hate fun, or that I can't get in a specific mindset to enjoy things -I still buy Suicide Squad, for fuck's sake-, but "fun" doesn't equal "good", and quite frankly I'd much rather have "good" than "fun".

XMen forever! You people need to get on board the greatest fiction universe of all time.

There isn't a Hyperion comic is there?? :P

I read some X-Men, I like some X-Men. If comicsGAF had their own X-Men thread I would stay the fuck away from it, you people are as bad as popGAF.

X-Men fans are weird.

Slott has begun to gimmick it up way too much I feel. I think he's getting a bit too much of a retard rush from "TWISTS!!!!!!" (tm) and its kind of fucking too much with why I liked his bright and breezy run. I think the curtains have fallen on too many writers ways I've been reading recently (Remender's SECRET SOCIETY OF VILLAINS FUCK HEROES UP FOR FIVE ISSUES, TURN AROUND IN THE SIXTH for instance), and only Jason Aaron can keep surprising me, I think he's Marvel's bestie right now.

DeConnick's Avengers Assemble felt fresh though, even if maybe it pinched a bit too much from the film's quirks (ragemonster quote), but it was nice to see an actual Stark face that wasnt some bizarre screencap trace of an asian man orgasming.
