Show of hands: How long does it take you guys to get through an issue of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN-- while giving it a good read?
ASM is NOT a standard "decompressed" comic. If you're blasting through it in 5 minutes, you're really not reading all of it are you?
Bull. With a good artist, the characters "act." If you're cramming/chugging/blasting your way through a comic, you're missing all of it.
Comics are the blending of words AND art. Right there you're talking about blasting through half the mix. How are you going to get a FAIR "read" of the comic.
ALSO, you've stated over and over again your bias against this title in its current incarnation. You're walking into it with an agenda. You WANT to not like it. You WANT it to be bad. And that's the mindset you have when you're plowing through it as quickly as you can in the store. In what world is that even remotely taking in the full measure of the story?
Aaaand there you have it. Dude, you're skipping through the story. Just move on. You're NOT reading it. You're scanning it for the SOLE purpose of having some kind of "ammunition" so you can come onto these boards and bitch and bitch and bitch about it. That's NOT reading. That's loading up to troll. Seriously, there are better ways to spend your time on this earth than that.
I know as you type up your response-- in your head-- you REALLY do think that you're NOT a hater. That you're NOT being a troll. That you are acting and behaving in a reasonable manner. But stop for a sec. Take a breath. Look at this objectively. A LONG time ago you READ the book (for real) and decided you DIDN'T like it. THAT'S COOL. That's an honest opinion and EVERYONE is entitled to that. But somewhere down the line you made a HABIT of being "that guy" who clogs up the aisle, reads the book in the store as FAST as possible, ALREADY LOCKED IN THE MINDSET that you're going to HATE it, just so you can "arm yourself" with enough examples so you can jump onto the message boards and bitch about it. That's who you are now. That guy. Who does this regularly-- every time the book comes out. Week after week after week after week. Maybe it's time to give it a rest? Read the book or DON'T. But don't think that what you're doing IS reading the book. Because it's NOT. It's gathering up little hate-bombs to lob on the internet. And, c'mon, deep inside you know you're better than that.
