Pretty much the entire issue was two page spreads with such awesome paneling. That's something I love about that book, the paneling in those two pagers is just so fucking good.

Justice League Dark is...not very good. The first 8 issues is Milligan phoning it in - I love the guy but it's really easy to tell when he's not into it - and the Lemire stuff is just as crap imo.
I think I was a little too harsh on the new ASM overall (shocker). The art's not as bad as it looked in a shitty scan and the writings not the WORST EVER. Most importantly I'm totally on board with the twistinside.
Picked up the last Ends Of The Earth on ComiXol and you can pretty much see exactly when and where.
And they all talk like that! There was another really bad one in this chapter that I can't remember, but I know it came from War. Just like the "Hell Low" line.
Oh he hasn't been revealed then? Thanks, carry on. First immediate thought I had when I saw him rip a head off was Saturn/Cronus, but he's not big enough to be a Titan.
Iron Man is not worth the money with that art, everyone looks deformed. What kind of blind person would defend it and it had to be a blind person because the art was insulting to all those with the power of sight.
Anyone else notice Batwoman #14 having 20 straight story pages followed by 12 pages of ads. Is this a new format for DC or just a one-time thing for this issue?

I randomly read a couple issues of birds of prey where she felt kind of like that as a support role, but in the issues of her book I've read she's been, at best, boring and at worst, a childish, selfish character who still gets idolized by other characters in an illogical way. That in particular is why some people say simone is just an obsessed fan writing fan fiction. "You were always meant to be batgirl" is just too cheesy, but apparently enough fans agree with her to tolerate it. In a decade someone whose childhood was defined by oracle will get a job writing barbara and even if they don't put her back in the wheelchair they'll still probably shift her back towards that role.
Ok. that's enough negativity. things I actually like: when my friends buy books so I can tradewait for my own copies without actually waiting to read. I've read captain america, thor, fantastic four, and iron man from marvel now. I enjoyed all of them, except for any panels containing human faces drawn by greg land. If you paired the man with scott snyder and asked them to make a horror story, I would never stop screaming.
I think thor in particular was my favorite. I've never really read a thor comic before so I had no idea what to expect, but it was a nice blend of jubilant viking party action, bleak norse ominous-ness, serious adventuring, and mythology crossovers.
Same for cap. My only cap story before this was the movie. Is this what a normal cap book is like? Sci-fi heroics + super-spy flavoring? Very fun.
I'm afraid I can't judge the quality of FF because it looks like the books have been elevated to the same level of fandom in my heart as batman- I'll enjoy even the most rote story more than people will think is justified. Still, so far so good.
Iron man's good points: My prior reading is extremis and fraction's invincible, volume 1. Issue 1 was a massive retread of plot points from both of those, though I enjoyed it. Issue two was much more fun. From gillen's afterword to the issue, it's what he's going for. no master plan, just adventuring. It also hit a theme I'd always wondered about:
The people piloting knock-off suits are usually military types. How much of a gap in combat skills can tony's tech make up for?
See above. I've got a pile of NOW books right next to me. Any 3.99 book is either flagship (ASM) or has the "best" (really best selling) talent on board. Journey Into Mystery wasn't even selling great when it was a fan favorite, now they've replaced the entire team and character. All corroborating evidence pointed to a book that would probably suffer, art-wise (see: X-Men Legacy, Captain Marvel, Red She Hulk).
There are anomalies like Hawkeye or Daredevil or Deadpool or Ff but by and large the price gap in Marvel books is accompanied by a gap in quality tiers. I don't advocate this, it's just reality.
Anyway, I'm not making that distinction, Marvel is. I hope you don't think I'm one of those people who think "the best talent is worth 3.99". If I thought that, I would have set the latest Amazing Spider-Man on fire.

And Marvel 3.99 books come with free digital copies, which means I don't have to store them and can get rid of them. Seems even at best, advantage Marvel at worst.
