Nope, FaceIt doesnt use Valve MM. Its an alternative to it, in fact.

Nope it uses the community servers. In fact there are community server (go to play>browse servers) where you can play random 5v5 with people dropping in and out of the game. No stats are recorded either.

Get a good cross hair by searching cross hair generator in steam workshop. And now angles around corners so you're already looking where a guys going to be before you turn a corner.

Anything you feel comfortable with to be honest. In the cross hair generator they have a bunch of pre made ones you can try out and you can just tweak them from there.

Changing the cross hair makes a surprisingly big difference.

I personally use a dynamic cross hair as it helps gauge my accuracy better. You can adjust how much it moves when running/shooting on the map mentioned.
