To be honest while Cowboy Bebop is a great series, I think it gets massively overrated.

Then again I think Evangelion is overrated too.

It's a shame region-free blu-ray players haven't become as easy to find as region free DVD players eventually became, but this is the kind of release I picked up mine for. Can't wait to check it out, I haven't watched Bebop in years.

It'd be awesome if they did 4 prequel episodes for each of the main characters. How Spike and Jet met, Faye's early days etc.

Question... How does one go about defeating region lock, have to imagine i could purchase this and run it through some encoding software to strip away the region protection. True or False. I need this.

Get an Oppo bluray player (BDP-95 if you don't care about 3D); best picture quality + disc-to-movie load times.

Yeah, my bad. The BDP-93, but I just did a quick price search, and damn. Oppo's really retain a lot of market value long after being replaced by newer models. Might as well just buy a BDP-103. -_-
Damn, 600 bucks...
Think i'd rather buy $25 worth of 50GB blu rays, rip the discs to my HD, remove the region lock, and burn my own region free copies and store them alongside the originals.

It's region free:

I live in the US and use a JP PS3 (which uses R1 as the US) and it works! So if you ordered immediately, you probably got a region free version.

Got it already?! My copy got delayed and I pre-ordered it day one and I'm in the UK! D:

It sickens me that Code Geass is on this box.

And it sickens me that it sickens you! Or something to that effect.

Definitely not what I'd have put there, but no big deal. Honestly, I'm not sure I would agree with mentioning any other anime series on the box at all. I've never been a fan of that particular form of product advertisement outside of a proper ad. In this case, it's actually worse since Cowboy Bebop is so unique that not even the people directly responsible for it have made something quite on this level of excellence, let alone the animation studio itself.

Even Kids on the Slope, despite the shared staff and cool jazz tunes, is almost nothing like Cowboy Bebop. Those expecting the same sort of show would be massively disappointed, in all likelihood, and Escaflowne is even less similar. Which ultimately just makes me shrug and move on.

Hey, I per-ordered with a 'what the hell' mindset, and completely forgot that it could be locked and was bummed that is was...but kept the order anyway. Guess I lucked out!

Just finished watching the thirteen episodes for the first time. Outstanding stuff so far. And might I just say...

Ballad of Fallen Angels.

God damn.

Thread inspired me to rewatch the series for the umpteenth time. Started earlier tonight watching the "Remix" dvds. Currently at the end of "Sympathy For The Devil."

"Bang."

You haven't lived until you've seen Bebop. I planning to show it to my mum. She thinks anime is immature as usual with most parents. I'll show her!
It truly is my favorite anime show.

I've unsuccessfully tried to get my girlfriend to enjoy the show... she just need to make it to Ballad of Fallen Angles, that's when the hook really gets set. My older sister on the otherhand, is a die hard Bebop fan.

It's ok to watch the show slightly out of order. That's how I got into it.

Awesome, thanks for the info :)

No problem! Hope you get to bask in the glory of bebop soon! :D

These are the original edits of the show, right?

Music all in the correct place. Coloring dark and noirish?

Yup. Everything is intact and exactly as it should be.

Yeah I'm unsure how to approach this. My mum doesn't watch anime and I've never given her recommendations on shows so I'm waiting it out. Might wait closer to when part 2 is also released before making my line of attack :p

I get shy watching things with other people in the room because especially when watching things like bebop I generally really get into it and giggle out loud and have a big grin on my face the whole way through. I get nervous I might come across as weird :$

Have I mentioned that I hate region-locking?

Sorry my good friend :(

I hope it works out for you guys soon! :)

Rewatching Cowboy Bebop and I'm hooked the second the soundtrack kicks in. What a show! I've also realised that I've never watched the show with Japanese audio. Might as well do so today.

My copy showed up today :) I want to watch it but at the same time show it to a bunch of people who have never seen it.

Hmm maybe Ill just watch one episode..

Get Inside Her!
Bebop's dub is great but whenever I'm given the choice between it and the original audio, I choose the original without fail. Even the most perfect dub still does some shitty things, like adding extra dialog to fill up the mouth-flapping. In the last episode, Spike says something like "I'm not going there to die, I'm going there to see if I'm really alive." In the dub he adds "I have to do it Faye" right after it, because there's just more space they had to fill. He just walks away after that line, it's the last thing he ever says to her, and the "gotta do it babe" part really softens the impact.

Stuff like that! I really do just love the original voices, too.

I honestly prefer the English dub to the original Japanese (i typically avoid dubs like the plague)

I do the exact same thing. Always went to english subtitles first but Cowboy Bebop surprised me. Really good "not cheesy or forced" dubbing. Watching the Japanese audio now though.

First time watching this (after reading all the praise in this thread). Halfway through episode 3 right now... pretty decent but don't get whats so mindblowing about this. And yes I know GAF loves its hyperbole, but still... Still going to continue and see where it takes me.
Note: Only other animes I've seen our Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT and few Studio Ghibli movies.

I don't want to overhype episode 5, but at least stick around to watch episode 5.
