They also apparently didn't notice the terrible driving and shooting mechanics and the ultra repetitive structure of the game. Oh well, it's not like they were reviewing it.

Why are you here junior? You didn't like the first one (see quote above) and you're pooping on the second one (see quote below.)

The reason Gears 2 and GoW 3 can be considered real full-fledged sequels and CD2 cannot is because both these games have a brand new solo campaign, introducing new mechanics and environments, whereas CD2 does not. ODST is not really a proper sequel to halo 3, but at least it introduces new elements to the franchise.
I really hate when people have such low expectations for $60 games. And I honestly hope that this one won't sell wel because I don't want MS to think it's OK to rush out sequels like this and expect the public to be dumb enough to pay it full price.

You are misinformed. On top of that, you're trying to call those of us paying full price for CD2 'dumb'? You'll do well on GAF.

I appreciate the insights. It is sounding like basically exactly what I wanted from a sequel. The things they did change seem to add to the game, they didn't fuck with the formula too much, and I can play online with 3 friends instead of 1. I really appreciated the first for being basically a pure arcade action game you are just dropped in, and InFamous/Prototype just didn't scratch that itch. I get that some people jumped ship and like that style of game better, but judging by the demo and impressions/reviews, the sequel is exactly what I wanted (minus the new environment, but I forgave that easily).

Anyway my Amazon copy came in so now it's under my desk until the end of the work day. Taunting me.

People seem to also be underplaying the difference that a lot of the high level weapons make. They are ludicrous and insane and I'm only at level 3.

So I have a question. More of a curiosity than anything. Why can I stick duck grenades to people's faces and have them run around quacking, but I can't stick a magnet grenade to anyone. I even tried throwing a mag straight up and running under it to catch it. I managed to get under it but it just bounced off of me :(. It must be because they had problems with the mag tether when it was attached to a person.

Loving it so far, until I hit this gamebreaking glitch. I've done the first two light bombs, and a few random other nodes, and for some reason now every time I pause the game I lose all control of my agent. I can pause and move around the menus fine, but in game I can't shoot, move, kill myself, etc. My only option is to pause and save/quit, then come back and run around and not pause. I even tried power cycling my xbox to no avail. If I can't figure this out, I'm going to be very pissed, I've been defending this game left and right to everyone I know saying how its just like the first one.

I didn't have the patch when I was first playing it this morning, did that somehow break it? Anyone else having issues?

Game is no fun. It copied Uncharted 2 with the 2 and the story line and characters are no where as deep as New Super Mario Brothers DS or Mario Kart. I wanted something revolutionary but I guess I'll have to wait til Killzone 3(makes motion controls look silly).

This is like Lair all over again. The gameplay videos shown in previews are obviously not good at all but fanboys being fanboys would just delude themselves into thinking otherwise. I am honestly surprised at the review scores for this game. I had expected it to be a lot worse.

Or maybe, juuuuuust maybe, you're wrong.

For the people that have this, did they give you a stat counter telling you how many orbs from each area you have? This made the orb collecting quite tedious from CD1 and I'm just wondering if they added anything to make it a little easier to keep track of?

Thanks. Cant wait to get out of work to play this! :D

Also, whats this I'm reading about crackdown 3 in 2012? Is this confirmed or just rumors?

I didn't have any problems like that, but I did have enemies at control points...appear underground with no way for me to get at them. Had to extract and hope that they all respawned in the proper places :lol

While all that was happening, random gun shots would ring out, peacekeepers and pedestrians that happen to cross paths with the invisible enemies would run around or shoot as if they were there.

You can view a map of the orbs (agility and hidden) in the pause menu (on the achievement list section).

I played through the demo 6 times all the way to 30 minutes. The only reason I stopped was because it hurt too much to start over at 0 every time. I don't care what the reviews say. I know exactly what I'm getting, and I want more. I know I'm going to have fun with this one.

Yeah random stuff like that never bothered me in the first crackdown either. This however, is a dealbreaker. I'm going to look around online more for other people having issues, but I have a feeling this is going back to the store if I can't get anything working. So pissed, this was the only game I was looking forward to until reach, and it's completely broken for me. Worst part is I was loving it so far, the city feels different enough, weapons are good so far, and the orbs are addictive as ever. Being able to move or control your agent at all isn't so much to ask is it?

Anybody else playing Co-op right now? I don't have anybody on my friends list that have this game right now and I really don't want to play by myself, LOL.

Interested in picking me up for some Co-op action?

Except you know, that isn't true.

Crackdown 2 has changed too much and Crackdown 2 didn't change enough. That's what I'm hearing from impressions and reviews.

Got my copy from the mail lady (thanks Amazon!) but, since I'm stuck at work, I won't get to hop in until tonight. For now, I shall lovingly glance at the box art and try to ignore the negativity swirling through this thread. I won't let you bring me down, GAF!

I had fun with the demo but I must admit that some of the things I'm reading about the game are putting me off a bit. Think I'm still probably going to get it when it comes out on Friday over here though.

Walked to blockbuster, exchanged Transformers for Crackdown 2 and played it for 30min. I don't think this game is really worth playing alone.

Game is growing on me. I've done one area I believe and as level up my powers I seem to be getting into it more and more. It still has many problems that I didn't expect considering the first game. I actually preferred the first games lack of structure, not sure why but it seemed to give the game a totally different random approach that made it such great fun. I thing in tightening the games structure they lost a little of what made the original Crackdown so damn good. Also, the darker tone of the game doesn't work for me quite as well.

The lack of car morphing after levelling up also gives me the shits.

However I have to say I'm still thoroughly addicted to it and I've been running from roof top to roof top like crazy and loved it.

Well, I wasnt going to pick this up. Finding out that my friend has, and that I have $36 bucks on a GS gift card that I forgot about..... Im wavering.

Two quick questions, may or may not have been asked and answered....

How many new weapons are there and are they fun? I saw someone mention that everyone seems to be ignoring the new weapons and that they add a lot to the game.

Second ? - My friend doesnt hope online all that much. If I play with some of you, how does the co-op mission structure work? Like if I hop online and play a few missions with players A B and C, how will that carry over in terms of progress if the next day I play with players D E and F? Or does it even work like that?

Nothing gave me as big a "shit eating grin" as the first Crackdown...Such a shame I can't afford it for another month....jealous...

I'll be picking this up today. Crackdown was mindless fun that I enjoyed big time. I need some of that in my gaming life right now.

What's changed is how the main missions play out. While you can do them in pretty much any order, it's FAR more restricted compared to Crackdown 1 in how you actually accomplish the mission (and alot more repetitive in my opinion).

Aside from that and a few additional weapons everything else is practically identical from Crackdown 1 (map wise and gameplay wise)

Decided to give this a rent (Blockbuster left the helicopter avatar award code in the box... SCORE) I should probably finish up RDR or something else on the pile but I have demo points waiting for me to unlock.

If anyone is looking to coop tonight, I'll be on in a few hours after work, around 5-6PM EST. GT: ThingontheFloor

Went back to the game and did my first " guard this object from a wave of zombies", i ended up running out of ammo and the thing got destroyed...and apparently the whole game is made out of this? I had no idea that this was going to be what Crackdown 2 turned into, basically an escort mission expansion pack with zombies.

Same thing happened to me until I noticed the three weapon drops in the cave. Use those weapons, one of them is a UV Shotgun and it will win the day for you.

That's not the whole game, by the way, just the end point of one of the mission styles. There are nine of them, I believe.

It will also piss off your friends in a most hilarious fashion.

One thing I really fucking hate is how multiplayer focus this seems as I loved Crackdowns single player and playing online is not my thing. They have to realize a lot of these games are bought for single player experience.

While not the whole game, those missions are the "main" one's that advance you to the end of the game

The play experience in single player is basically identical to Crackdown 1. All Crackdown 2 brings to the table is the opportunity to play with 3 other friends instead of 1.

Off the top of my head there are probably around 8 new weapons at least. I usually just use my old standby of harpoon gun + flocket launcher. Once you get deeper into the game the enemies start using a grenade launcher that will just tear you to shreds. Here is how I just did one of the strongholds that was more out in the open. Get on a building and glide down to the start point. Start the stronghold then fire some flockets to make room. Run back up to the building and then kill as many as I can from that building. Jump, shoot, then glide to the next set of buildings. All while avoiding fire. Fun as fuck, especially when I'm avoiding everything with my glides.

As for your second, the only thing that carries over for co op is your levels for your character. Missions don't. Only the hosts missions will count as it is his game. So you can go play with someone, get your character up, then go play with someone else and have a good character. Items carry over too as long as you remember to drop them off at a supply point.

Also here is a really well done orb map. Has all of the agility and hidden orbs. No renegades though.

Gamestop has my order on "backorder" despite having ordered it back in fucking March. Anyone else running into this?

Just came in the mail from Amazon. I don't know if I should open it.

I liked the demo a lot when I was playing with the infinite time glitch, but the reviews have been pretty sour.....I think I just answered my own question.

I'm going to open it.

i know this game is going to stir up controversy, and i don't think the reviews are being unfair either, but i know what i'm buying and i'm perfectly happy putting down my $60.

i don't have the first crackdown any more. i want to play more crackdown. $60 for the new improved crackdown even if that is all it is? improved rather than a sequel? yeah. that works for me.

crackdown was awesome. the difference in price between the original and this one weighed against the extra stuff i get in the sequel seems warranted, and that's the only metric i care about.

from playing the demo, when defending the light bomb thing, don't waste time or shots killing any freaks but the ones highlighted in your hud unless you get over whelmed. i'm going to grind the 'missions' and get to the fun stuff.

hopefully we'll get another 'keys to the city' mode.

but really, driving through hordes of freaks is awesome... and using the agency supercar is still awesomes.

Here's a suggestion...NEVER PRE-ORDER A GAME AGAIN! Why would you let someone else hold on to your money and collect interest on it while you are getting nothing in return? Go there, get your money back and go buy it elsewhere...

Are you kidding me? my buddy and I were excited to see how the different agency vehicles morph including the new helicopter. Damn that pisses me off. What the hell does the driving orbs do in this game then? Just add to better control or speed?

Either way I'm itching for some crackdown baby. :D

now there are more vehicles, that are seperate. so instead of a car morphing as you level up, levelling up unlocks new agency vehicles that you can call in for a helidrop.

so they lose a neat effect, but i think getting a whole new vehicle as you level is better than getting a slightly better version of the car you were already driving (not counting the awesome final level extras they had).

You get new cars for loadouts with every level.

Question: in the first game weapons were a bit of a scavenger hunt: snag a new one, and take it to a supply point to add it to my arsenal. In the demo, I kept hearing mentions of new weapons being added to the supply points just because I leveled up. Has the system gone from scavenger hunt to fixed weapon unlocks as I progress?

One of the joys of the first game was swimming to the third island and living (very) dangerously while I tried to snag a rocket launcher to use early.

This may surprise you but some stores give you a little extra something something with a preorder, kind of a 'pre-order bonus,' if you will.

The Cell weapons are still unlocked through the same collect to deposit method from the first game. Agency weapons are unlocked by leveling up your firearms skill.

Both. Certain weapons are added to your loadout per level, others have to be brought to supply points to add to your arsenal.
