Crackdown 3 Gameplay First Look

I dont know...the destruction does not look undoable on a console to me. Also, if you are offline, you dont get the destruction anyways, so what happens when they shut down the servers?

I'm not implying that at all, it would be incredibly ignorant of MS to not utilize this in future games. I'm just puzzled that they've been marketing the "power of the cloud" for nearly two years and this is the only tangible cloud-based tech they can point to (other than what, dedicated servers in certain games?)

Tech takes time.

I swear some people here expect companies to just snap their fingers and new tech magically appears in front of them.

Personally I'm super hyped.

Crackdown 1 represents for me one of the best TPS gameplay of all time. Everything related to the character movement was over the top and ultra dynamic, I loved it. The fact to add destruction to this is, I think, the best mix possible, even if you need to be connected to enjoy that.

It would be cool if they let the choice to the player in singleplayer mode to be connected or not. In this way, you wouldn't require to play multiplayer to enjoy the destructible elements.
Or... Maybe simply set Crackdown 3 as a MMO. I just hope that people having a ~500ko/s download speed would be able to enjoy the full destruction without probs.

Other thing, it's strange that nothing says officially that this is developed with Unreal Engine 4, I think it would be some good promotion here.

Answers are TBD. I really hope they allow online-connected single player.

Regarding internet connection, what happens when you play Destiny and your internet goes out?

Easy answer to that question, I don't play Destiny it was over-hyped crap.

To expand on the answer more (not the Destiny thing) we are talking about the single player part of Crackdown, so are you saying you would want it to be tied to being online ? because we all know how that's turned out in the pasts. I can see all the complaints now, when people can't play single player because there is an online issue and also that starts going back to the whole MS DRM stuff that everybody hated when they launched Xbox One.

Best bet is no destruction in Single Player or the destruction will be turned down to a basic level.

As I said on the other thread, I'm not impressed from what I've seen so far: the destruction is cool but I expected a much more accurate simulation.

So far we have seen simple building collapsing producing huge debris.
It's impressive that you can destroy the entire city but as the destruction is only available in multiplayer, it's normal that the simulation must be done on the server side.

The don't use it as a marketing bullet point when the system launches? It's disingenuous marketing, at best (which has been my entire point this whole time).

I don't see how financially they'd eat the cost of providing 20x the Xbox One's computation power via a server for each single-player session.

So I'm guessing the cool destruction is going to be limited to online matches where a single server provides for 8+ players.

I hope its really early. My CD heart is bleeding a bit right now.

I feel the same. The strafing and jumping animations look terrible in comparison to crackdown 1 which was released about a decade ago, not a good start. Part of the beauty of crackdown 1 was watching your dude's arms and legs wave around in the air as you flung yourself through into the sky. The second one lost that and it's once again absent from what we've seen so far. And where's the speed? Everything looks slowed down to a halt.

Yes, it is early, but I'm just giving my initial reaction. The destruction is the only thing that looks promising at this point.

People are still dismissing the cloud compute thing?

Really?

The foundation of the tech in no different than hosting a game on a dedicated server. You know that Minecraft multiplayer server you play on? That's all cloud computing. This is the exact same concept.

The physics of the destruction is calculated on the server, just like the Minecraft world is hosted on a server.

I don't understand why people find this hard to believe. We've been using the tech for years.

I think it's because we didn't really have a "real" evidence of how this could affect a video game. And we just got it today xD

I don't think so. And honestly, it's probably an unfounded worry, considering how hard Microsoft backed down when Xbone was originally set to be always-online.

That is a situation they will never win. If they mandate an online connection people will complain, if they don't then lots of people are going to complain about something else.

Although I wouldn't complain, Mike from Breaking Bad is on the dev team...

So can you like, run up the side of a fall building?
How dynamic are the skyscrapers? Can you hit it with a rocket volley vid collapse to shift the trajectory of its fall?

I want to believe...

I think they shouldn't show anything at all.

It looked very bad and showed nothing interesting.

It showed:

That transforming cars are back, which all Crackdown fans (I'm assuming you're not one) have always wanted
We have at least the option for a female protagonist
We will fight a giant robot, something new for the series
There will be crazy destruction in multiplayer
The game looks like it will play a lot like the original

That's a fair amount to glean from footage effectively shown "in the background".

The cloud destruction isn't doing anything for me, but I like that the trailer emphasized tackling the criminal structure in any way you see fit - bonus points for referring to it as an ecosystem. I loves me some systemic sandboxes.

And the transforming cars. Fuck yeah.

Just watched the trailer, anyone thing the criminal underworld thing will be similar to the Nemesis system?
It always kindof was - with players having choice on who to take down when and how - and each boss taken out would reduce some capability of their gang. But I guess they could extend that with the Nemesis system of promotions and internal strife - that would not be a bad thing at all ;p

We've had "real" evidence of it for years, it just hasn't been used in this particular way before.

It does look cool, hopefully the game ends up being good. The gameplay still seemed super early.

Looks cool. Just wish the character didn't look like a space marine of generic dullness. Are their any alternate skins where I can cyberpunk myself out more?

Crackdown lets you choose your agents face. It also looks like you can choose to be female too.

But this is kinda the crackdown thing. Big dudes who were genetically engineered to be almost super human. So they look like big bulky supermen.

And for fans it showed promise and confirmation of core Crackdown gameplay, its pre alpha, if your focusing on anything but the features then your wasting your and everyone else's time trying to discuss it.

I just assumed that is was, because the game looks to be a late 2016/early 2017 game, and the phrasing of "Multiplayer begins summer 2016" sounded more beta than final release to me.

Pretty sure MS said Crackdown's a 2016 title (joining Recore/Gears 4/Sea of Thieves was the phrasing, I think) at the beginning of the conference. I think IGN mentioned a beta, but I haven't heard anywhere official mention one. It probably is the 'multiplayer begins' wording that's a bit ambiguous, but I interpreted it at as a reverse GTAO/MGO scenario, where the multiplayer might be out earlier?

Core gameplay and Co-op will be glorious.
Not sure about mp. The 100% destructibility with a little help from the cloud sounds fishy in some way..

The gameplay snippets looked pretty good. And it's nice to have confirmation transforming vehicles are back.

Good wasn't the word that i had in mind...unfinished or rough but promising (if is like the first one) may be more close to what i was thinking...

And well (and until is confirmed or not), it seems that the 180º affected clearly the way the cloud procesing is being implemented in the game (seems to me only multiplayer online)

A Crackdown developer sort of went into how the "cloud" crap would actually be more than crap with Crackdown on neogaf a long time ago. I don't know if it has been posted already but it would be worth digging up.

I am really shocked by how unfinished the game looks. It's been more than 2 years since they've started and this is all they have to show for it. Disappointing. The destruction looks incredible though. I was sad that after Red Faction Guerilla, destruction in games regressed. Finally, we are seeing next gen destruction. I'm not sure why it requires the cloud though. It looks doable on the xbone's hardware considering Red Faction Guerilla was doable on a 360. The third person shooting (from what little that I could see) looked pretty bland to me.

I don't know if Crackdown games are the build your own character type or if we saw the game's protagonist, but it is nice to see a MC that isn't white used in marketing.

I noticed some careful wording with the "play multiplayer summer 2016" part. My takeaway from that is that the game will not release in 2016 but will be playable as early access or something.

I've had about 1000 hours of "Fun" in Destiny and that is an always online game. This is going to be released in 2017. Not 1997.
Not everyone enjoys the same luxuries that you do, Adam.

Don't forget that the crime lords are back and taking down one will affect the others, just as it did in the first game.

I was never a big fan of the earlier games and my replay of CD1 kind of ruined it for me so I am not really its target audience.

That's more than fair. It's not the most universally appealing game. I know a lot of people didn't even bother playing the first game and only bought it for the Halo 3 beta. As soon as that was done, the game was traded in or just thrown into the backlog to be forgotten about.

I'm hyped, but I need more info on how the destruction works in single player and if I still get my core Crackdown experience.

There was quite a bit of exclusive gamescom footage last year, it did appear elsewhere after several weeks.
I wonder if they are connected to Live on the Gamescom public wifi?

Oh, it did? Well let's hope this is released later on.
