Actually he is part of the Seasoned Gaming weekly Bitcast so you can see exactly who he is. Not a shill comes to mind. Can come across as arrogant though. Also I often disagree with his take on games, but sometimes he is spot on.

Be interesting to see if he revises it up. Also whilst he publishes under the IGN banner, I think he is more contractor than employee.
 
Lot of .1 to .5 hour invested Steam reviews being negative. Guess a decent amount of people are getting GPU not supported errors and complaints that you can't switch keybinds.

He was indicating he wanted to give Crimson Desert a 6. I guess he had some pretty major bugs. But I was hoping I could see what he thinks on Elden Ring's approach to being very hands off, but I didn't find anything.

He complained for lack of lore and not proper guidance I think. Which is why I was curious what he thought a game with a similar hands off approach.

Reasonable scores. Crimson Desert looks very generic.

Yes performance will do 60 fps most of the time, and can go above 60fps if you turn v sync off in settings but then you get screen tearing for sure.

Balanced is amazing with v sync off but the screen tearing is so bad it ruins the mode entirely.

Performance mode with v sync on, depth of field off for me.

Yeah I'll do the same settings you had. 1080p upscale to 4k is fine. I know DF recommended balance but that was pre patch.

They made it sound like the screen tearing was very rare in this mode but in the first town it's non stop.

If there was no screen tearing it would be sublime.
 
Yes, IGN's reviewer Travis Northup is a contractor/freelancer. But he has done a lot of reviews for IGN. So they seem to like working with him. He did come across arrogant to me in the video. But I don't know anything about him otherwise.

As far as Steam reviews go. Why would someone who likes the game even rate it yet. But if you can't get it to run I understand sharing that. Check back in a few weeks.

I see now what's going on. Turn off 120hz in the PS5 settings. It's MUCH smoother now. Same methods in the settings though, Perf with depth of field off.

Balanced mode with 120hz mode off mean if v sync is off it would just be a noticeable 40fps mode.

If you do 120hz mode, v sync off, balanced mode you get a perfect motion 60fps with more visual fidelity but screen tearing.

Unless you're saying turning that off gives you the 60fps in balanced smoothness and no screen tearing.

Luke Stephens plagiarized hbomberguy and a apologized after hbomb's extensive Youtube Plagiarism video which really didn't cover Luke in depth, but did hint at other instances which people suspect may be in reference to Joseph Anderson's long form video on Uncharted/TLOU.

Would you feel that your review is 100% an adequate description of the game for a random person who's interested, or would it be more of a review for other game reviewers?

I'm not saying this game looks like a 10/10 experience, nor a 9/10 experience, but the negatives some people are listing (aside from core mechanics) are either not telling enough or very telling of what they didn't even bother doing in order to meet deadline.

So who are those reviews even for?

And to be fair, a part of this blame lies with Pearl Abyss in thinking a week or two is long enough to complete something this massive with so many systems in it.

Weird how this stuff didn't seem to happen to games like Elden Ring or BOTW that are huge and take tons of hours to play.

Again, "the reviewer played it wrong" is pure cope.

I'm not using balance, just performance mode with vsync on. When I was in the abyss it was smooth. I'd say at the advertised 60fps.

Idk people are pointing out that the 120hz is bugged so I'm waiting to see if that gets fixed.

Edit: Switched to balanced to see. Vsync on it feels like 30fps. Vsync off it feels like closer to 60. I'll keep playing around with it. I'm in the first town Hernan and the performance was tanking a bit earlier in populated areas for me.

Agreed. Plus if Pearl Abyss was concerned about rushed reviews because it is a huge game they should have given them access a bit earlier.

Regardless, most reviewers played for dozens of hours. Plenty of time to form an opinion on the game.

But at least people can check his gaming abilities (since it's impossible for any YouTuber to pay someone to record gameplay lol)!
 


Curious what people think about this review's perspective on the game ("The Worst Game I've Ever Enjoyed").

I can see the points on both sides (the good/bad) here. It feels so far like a 7/10 solo MMO propped up mainly by its combat and exploration.

The story isn't non existent in Crimson Desert either. It's has ten times the story and narrative that breath of the wild had. It's seriously baffling seeing all these complaints about crimson desert when they literally praise those exact same things in Zelda. Wild behavior.

I can only conclude it's due to a political agenda, because it doesn't make logical sense.

Also, combat in Breath of the Wild was actual garbage.
