Critiquing the narrative impact of a video game is like arguing about the acting in a porno.
Not narrative impact per se. I'm critiquing the lack of a setpiece for the final level. Crysis 1 had a beautiful set piece on the deck of a naval carrier. And MW2, though its plot was a mess, had a beautiful QTE styled setpiece that knocks the pants off of Crysis 2's final QTE.

so, i have the xbox 360 version of this game, but haven't played it yet. all of the sexy pics of the pc version in this thread have me wanting to give it a go, but i'm not sure if my pc can handle it. i just downloaded the demo only to find out that there are no servers up any longer... can someone give me an idea of what kind of performance i can expect on my laptop? my specs are:

windows 7 64-bit
intel core i3 @ 2.27 GHz
intel integrated hd graphics (probably the biggest drawback...)
4GB of ram

if it's going to run well (30fps or more) and look as good (or almost as good) as some of the pics in here then i'll double-dip and play it on my laptop with an xbox controller.

oh, and i guess i should explain that i am not a pc gamer. this would be my first time playing something on a pc. that's why i'm unsure of the performance i would get...

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
I don't think that will run it better than the consoles. But that PC is plenty enough to enjoy many PC classics (and some modern good stuff) so you should do that.

if you have a pcie slot? a 100-150 dollar card will run crysis pretty well or any game better than it does on consoles. 5770 comes to mind and 450gts come to mind.

If that a laptop then no you cant play it. Integrated graphics is not enough..sorry

Just got to the Grand Central Station section shown in the E3 previews. This game is really starting to grow on me. Unlike the first two games, this one starts off slow and then picks up. The aliens in this game are a lot more fun than the other ones. I also like the new art direction as well as the silent protagonist. It makes me want an HD Metroid Prime. I'd also love Crytek to pick up the Turok license. I would settle for a bow and arrow in the next Crysis though.

Integrated graphics? No hope of even running at all.

The motion blur in this game is downright awful. Looks like trash compared to the incredible motion blur in Crysis.
I partially disagree. Some bits look a touch worse, but overall, I think it's used better in Crysis 2. It still looks very clean. Neither game can touch the blur used in a few PS3 games, though (oddly enough).

This might sound weird but I'm loving tweaking settings. The only other game I messed around with config tweaks was Crysis 1 and in that I just copy/pasted a list and never touched it again. With Crysis 2 I'm having fun with it (I think it's fun, not sure?)... maybe some sort of OCD tendency, but I don't think so because I actually get interested and a little excited to try it out. God I'm a nerd.

Bu...bu..bu I thought preset settings were cool and PC gamers who wanted to tweak should just get over. (Note: Not really directed at you).

The DX11 patch doesn't bother me so much as the bugs in the game. Those need patching within a couple of weeks for pity's sake.

I've been PC gaming since Wolfenstein 3D, just never got into tweaking settings for some reason. Probably got a little smarter as I got older (doubtful) so they make more sense now. It's also fun having control over the game like that.

Oh, Crytek...

Hi everyone,

As some of you are aware there's been an option added to your user profiles on MyCrysis.com that allows you to delete the account. Many people have used this in attempts to try and fix game login issues but that's not what this is for. As stated by the popup box when you try and delete the account, it's permanent and the username/email address cannot be used again.

This feature is available to those who simply do not wish to have a MyCrysis account any longer and wish to delete their accounts. Please do not use this in attempts to fix login issues.

Regards,
- MyCrysis Team.

Gosh thanks. There was actually NO warning whatsoever when I used that feature to try to fix the issues I've been having with logging in to the game, and a lot of other folks did as well. I guess Crytek's solution to a fucked authentication system is to force people to create new accounts with names they don't want, using entirely different email addresses, and have an account database full of dead data.

They sped up the default shutter speed for the object blur and set the default max distance for it way too close to the player as such there's far less object blur going on at any one time than in the first, unless you tweak it of course.

I think +r_PostMSAA=0 in the shortcut will do it. You can also add r_PostMSAA=0 to the config file.

You kind of have to judge the quality of the blur in motion. Screenshots are fun but you can't really tell how good it is just by looking at them. Either way I much prefer the implementation in Crysis.

For Crysis 1, I noticed a motion blur quality jump when I switched from DX9 shaders (high) to DX10 shaders (very high).

Yeah I am pretty sure motion blur only works in DX10 version of Crysis.

Edit: damn it, now I want to play some more Crysis.

Yeah. I had shaders set to High, noticed little to no motion blur. Wondered what the hell was going on, then realized my mistake and switched shaders to Very High.

Did you try doing it by the config? you can get almost the same motion blur from DX10 through the config. There is a difference yes but it's not that much.

Is this some kind of visual glitch with armor mode (look at the gun) or an epic reflection I luckily caught in a screen? I've got other pics with armor mode on and the guns don't have that.

Except for the part where the blur fucked up your weapons...and especially the tank cannon. You could look around fast in the tank and your cannon would just disappear.

Don't know about vehicles but it has very little effect on weapons that Nomad is actually holding.

If you have the silencer on it does. It can completely blur the silencer away when you're looking fast. The shotgun I believe was also really bad. Basically, if your weapon was too long, it would get blurred like crazy.

There's a huge difference between the hacked DX9 object blur and the proper DX10 implementation in C1, it was far less accurate and glitched out on the alien and nanosuit arms.

Hahaha, yes it does. Guess that's another bug that never got fixed.

(I didn't mind the story. Certainly no worse than the average game.)

I finished the game yesterday and I can't even remember what it was about.

blah blah blah nanosuit blah blah blah aliens

Then there was the skips between some missions that felt like half the game was missing which didn't help

also the dialogue and voice acting are atrocious. I think that has a lot to do with it because I just spent my time mashing buttons trying to skip it instead of concentrating on what they were saying (not that it would've mattered because you have no input)

I had a bug where the weapons for whatever reason were zoomed in really big and some of them were not showing up and some of the large guns, you could only see the very end of the gun, no aiming reticules either. It eventually went away after rebooting the game.

It's a frame from the transitional animation for going into cloak.

"Damn not only does crysis 2 have no dx11 support, it has no dx10 support and probably never will? Console gaming halts progress yet again. spanx peasents."

" It seriously looks like someone took the crysis game and took a shit on it. Lame console graphics, stupid field of view and stupid Call of Halo bullshit gameplay. WAAAANK waste of 30 squid. Should have just pirated it. I smell EA's pressure behind this pile of jizz."

Amazing haha

The only time I've seen this game look good was when dennis or w/e with the ME2 avatar posted his screenshots which were customized by removing the ghosting and awful Vaseline filter on everything amongst other things.

As for the large guns, it makes sense since it allows people to identify weapons from a distance (say your couch) easier than if they scaled to PC high resolutions like say in Crysis 1 or even a typical PC FPS.

Yeah, but there was a pretty huge frame hit in Crysis with OMB on. Crysis 2 has OMB enabled on every setting.

I really wish they'd do something with the matchmaking (360, living in Asia).

Having a good game when a bunch of locals last night when suddenly a whole party of Austrian gamers fill up the room and as always, the westerners get host. My entire side was stuck with a 1 bar connection while the entire opposition was 3 bars for the next few games, that is until suddenly everyone gets dropped out.

*SIGH*

Mickey/anyone else still up... I put r_PostMSAA=0 into my config file and the blur was gone but now there's a very fine grain filter taking its place. What's up with this? See the 1st screen for the grain then compare with the 2nd screen which has r_PostMSAA=2 on and no grain but slightly blurrier.

Also, some of the shinier objects/models you see with msaa=0 have this shimmery outline to them. I don't think this is sharpness. Looks like some weird type of jaggies. See the dead aliens in the third screen for this.

The grain is just the way the engine looks no way to get around that (yet at least) it's just the blurry image that hides it a little bit but you can still see it if you pay close attention.

Using r_PostMSAA=2 will get you to a middle ground between jaggies and vaseline.

The AA will not be as good as r_PostMSAA=3 (full vaseline on) but the image will not be as blurry but it won't be completely crisp and clear either.

I don't think there is a 3. It's 0 1 or 2.

variable: r_PostMSAAMode
type: int
current: 2
help: Enables amortized multisampling.
Usage: r_PostMSAAMode [1: to enable 2x amsaa with linear blending, 2: to enable 2x amsaa with clamped reprojection]

The grain looks like some type of bad texture filtering. I would double check those settings Heavy. Make sure it's not using bilinear or something.

That looks like some kind of artifacting not the engine grain, what config are you using?

Hmm there is for me, I went from 3 to 2 and the difference was there then went back to 3 just to double check and yep, went back to a full blurred out image that the game comes with by default.

Just got the game today for pc. I know that this has been talked about, but I don't feel like scouring through all the posts. Does crossfire work properly? I keep reading how people are getting better performance out of this game with lesser hardware, but I'm not finding that to be the case. I'm getting absolutely unacceptable performance with my fairly powerful setup. I'm on a i7-975 @ 4.0 GHz with a Radeon 5970. I'm just starting up the game and at 1920 x 1080, my fps is hovering between 40 - 60 fps, with vsynch on. The game doesn't maintain 60 fps most of the time. I know that the flicker is a known issue but is crossfire still not working correctly? I have the latest drivers with the latest caps and am not impressed with the fps on this game.
