You pretty much can't have something as open as Crysis 1 because it's NYC. Unless there's something in Central Park everything else is going to be just kinda open instead of full open.
Are you saying there isn't a reason to be able to explore the city?

I really don't see why they couldn't have just made the whole city open, but being able to take down enemies from 49th street instead of 102 or whatever is about the same as taking them from the beach or up the hill.

Not enough sparks or flying helicopter explosions at Yankee Stadium1!?!?!?!

I have the game, and I was personally disappointed to see there were no UFO flyovers with lazer beams everywhere during the 7th inning stretch.

I mean when you compare it to other sports titles that might have received a 8.0+ graphics score....well I'm sure they have that or at least flying helicopter explosions...either way SONY GET WITH THE TIMES!

This kind of thing usually stops in multiplatform threads when people start posting their own 1080p screenshots. Then graphics suddenly aren't important anymore.

Fixed. At least, that's what I say every time I see the debate since it seems like every time it's revealed the 360 version performs better it's like it's some groundbreaking news.

*before I'm labeled a xbot, both of my consoles are now dead and I'm pc only.

Oh God, the indecisiveness whether to buy the PS3-version. :(

My decision is done: I will not get it. Sounds like the same shit as in the demo. Didn#t you also hate the PS3 port of CODBLOPS? This seems like the same deal but worse.

Bigger than CoD but smaller than Crysis matches up with every single video posted in this thread.

If you can show me something that looks anywhere near as big and open as the base assaults from Crysis and Warhead I'll be super happy.
Read the post I was replying to. Gvaz said it was like the aircraft carrier level and the inside spaceship level, which are both quite linear with no real opportunities for multiple ways to tackle objectives. He has never played it and was just spewing bullshit. Here are some quotes from reviews:

Forum comment:
Once you make it outdoors, the levels start off large and open ended. You're given just as much freedom to take on each scenario as you were in Crysis.

From the Eurogamer review:
The wide-open spaces of Crysis 2's New York are playpens in which you can toy with your prey in whatever way you wish using these tools.

IGN review:
Crysis 2 is a collection of sandboxes, some enormous in size, all laid out to provide multiple options for tackling your objectives.

Gamespot review:
Large environments give you room to maneuver and grant you freedom to approach battle in a number of ways, which makes Crysis 2 a great alternative to the plethora of first-person shooters that usher you down corridors on your way to the next action movie set piece.

It's not as spacious as the original (doubt anyone thought it would be) but it's nowhere near to being a "consolized, corridor shooter" as people said it would be. It sounds like the environments are much larger and open-ended than COD and such.

Do you have a source to back up that statement? I'm interested to read further into this.
It was from an article from the Crytek head talking about Kingdoms, something about them pushing it to its limits and getting the most out of the console. I'll try to find the link.

Yes, I hated it. :/

Next problem is that I don't know if the Austrian uncut version is in German or English. Won't buy solo German.

Enjoy it. EA and Activision are pushing for it.

Want this map pack? Pay $15 for something that should be free.

6-10 hours for $60 is way too much though imo.

Speaking of which I like how games in austrailia are still like 90-120~ AUD.

The AUD is worth more than the dollar now, why are they paying 33-50% more?

6-10 hours? Multiplayer alone seems like a 100+ hour content right there.

Why is that video titled "Which is the best version of the best first person shooter of 2011? And not just say "...Crysis 2?" Did you really have to go so far as to title a separate video, no doubt edited by a different person than the game reviewer, with a title such as that?

meh. Differences aren't that big between all three except for the PC being much clearer thanks to the higher resolution. It's a shame TBH as we know that the PC could do so much better.

Could someone with the PC version check how much VRAM the game uses at 1080p max settings?

There were multiple sales before release.

$48 after 20% coupon code at Direct2Drive

$57 at Amazon (retail box) with $10 gift credit towards a future purchase, free shipping, no tax.

Didn't take any effort at all to find a deal for under $59.99.

Just wait for the single frame buffer caps of the consoles that people will nitpick over and over again :/

It's not about that, it's about setting the MSRP higher.

EA has nothing to do about sales on D2D or amazon or elsewhere.

I'm getting a little cheated though, I'm only buying for single-player. So I really hope good single-player mods come quick. I played the multi on PC for a few days. I just don't like it. :/ :(

But what does it matter what the MSRP is? how many times have you bought a piece of clothing with some crazy MSRP for half the price? Only thing that counts is how much you pay at checkout, not MSRP. Those were two big sales available for a long time he could have got in on, just saying.

Found it.

While he wouldn't comment on the nature of the game, Yerli told us that the developer wants Kingdoms to max out Xbox 360's capabilities.

"... I think when we put Crysis 2 out we will show a level that is, multiplatform-wise, maxing out, but we will look into with Microsoft how Kingdoms can push the Xbox 360 110 percent, to its limits.

"When you're spending a multimillion budget only on the Xbox 360, that team will be able to crank out the last two or three percent left in the console. But I think that two or three percent will make the difference potentially between day and night that you cannot afford if you go multiplatform."

So maybe the Budapest team helped the Frankfurt team with the 360 version?

Actually on second look the PS3 version does look quite a bit murkier in the background, probably due to the lower resolution. Foreground looks quite close to the 360 version though.

Guess that kind of explains why the 360 seems to perform better, all that knowledge they learnt can be shared within the company just like Sony does with its 1st party studios.

It doesn't even go so far as to say "the best first person shooter of 2011 so far." It makes no sense from a journalistic standpoint. It's loaded language. It sounds like advertising, not journalism. It sounds like EA wrote it because they knew IGN was going to give a high score.

It's as open as Crysis 1 but in a different way.
Those who tell you otherwise have no idea what they're talking about. Crysis 1 is often mistaken for an open world game, but it's never been.
Crysis 2 is mostly set in large areas with tons of different options; It's not Halo as in areas aren't always 'open' which actually allows for even more strategy; there may be an open square in the middle, a collapsed building you can enter and climb to snipe enemies, underground tunnels to flank them, iteriors you can explore and in which you can hide.. It actually reminded me of Project IGI more than Crysis 1 did.

Because more often than not, the game is default sold for $60 instead of on a coupon deal or whatever. it's not that huge of a jump, but it's a lot to ask out of a game that has a short SP and I'm not interested in the MP whatsoever.

(PC) Is there no quick/manual save? I have to get up and leave and I have a feeling unless I quickly rush to the current objective it'll skip me back like twenty minutes of gameplay if I quit.

Actually more than You think. I've seen screen with more than 5m polys [with shadows] shown in debugmode.

They should just release POM + better textures, higher res fire particles in DX11 patch and i'm happy. Maybe some other AA options [SRAA, MLAA, SSAA etc] also.

can you tell me more about what Gamespot is talking about here regarding Crysis review copies..

As you may have noticed, we have posted our Crysis 2 review--but only for the Xbox 360 version. Now, you may be saying to yourself, "Hey GameSpot! This is a sequel to an awesome PC game. What about the PC version? And for that matter, what about the PlayStation 3?"

As it happens, there was a Crysis 2 review event where we and other members of the press were invited to play the game for review in a controlled setting. As you may know, we don't attend review events, because we feel that we should play games just like you would: using our own televisions and our own systems, and without interacting with game publishers or developers during the experience. While we've asked multiple times for review code for Crysis 2, we have yet to receive any other version but the Xbox 360 version--and we received that on Friday, four days before the game's release.

so IGN based its review after playing at the event? or something else.

Like every one of your posts has inaccurate info. From saying the game is as linear and closed as the aircraft carrier chapter in C1, which I refuted with multiple quotes from reviews and you ignored, to saying it's a short SP. From nearly all accounts, it's a long campaign for a shooter, double that of a typical FPS -- anywhere from 10-12 hours.

Sounds kinda like a simpler version of Deus Ex. 1 goal in an open but small area, but multiple ways to tackle it.

http://www.ign.com/blogs/arthur-ign/2011/03/22/how-i-reviewed-crysis-2

I received a retail copy of the Xbox 360 version of Crysis 2 from EA last Friday, on March 18th, which I played through primarily on my home theater setup. I received a PS3 retail copy of Crysis 2, also from EA, on Monday, March 21st. I’ve played about half of the PS3 version of the game, enough to get a feel for the games overall look and performance given my completion of the game twice on Xbox 360. I have not played a final retail version of the PC release, nor any version I’ve been told was “reviewable.” Hence, we don’t have a PC review on the site at this time. That will change as soon as possible.

-HOW TO CONFIG THE RETAIL RELEASE-

The game has a config file, system.cfg. However, there isn't anything useful in it. You can find it in your Crysis 2 folder. If you installed through steam, the file is probably in c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\crysis 2. If you installed off a disc, the folder is probably c:\program files\Electronic Arts\Crysis 2.

Add this text to it so you have some useful options to play with.

g_skipIntro 1

con_restricted 0
sys_DeactivateConsole 0

i_mouse_smooth 0
i_mouse_accel 0

cl_fov 80
r_DrawNearFoV 80

r_GlowAnamorphicFlares 0
r_Reflections 1

r_FSAA 0
r_PostMSAA 0
r_UseEdgeAA 1
r_SSAO 0
r_UsePOM 1

Some of these settings are my own personal preferences, so feel free to tweak them.

If you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7, there will be extra protection for any files under the Program Files directory. In order to edit your system.cfg file, you'll need to launch notepad with administrator rights. Just find it in the start menu, right click on it, and choose "Run As Administrator".

Here are some more settings that I'm playing with that push the graphics engine past the 'Extreme' profile.

e_GIIterations 32
e_GIMaxDistance 150
e_GIGlossyReflections 1
e_GIRSMSize 512
e_GISecondaryOcclusion 1
e_ShadowsMaxTexRes 1024

r_EnvTexResolution 512
r_ImposterRatio 1

e_WaterWaves 1
r_HDRTexFormat 1
r_Beams 1
r_pointslightshafts 1

Maximum effects.

s_Obstruction 2
s_ReverbType 3

Maximum sounds.

Played about 45-60 mins of the PC version and I can absolutely see how videos are going show all three looking very similar.
These are console textures. I would say crysis 1 had better textures on average. This is no doubt a console priority #1 game.
Textures are not everything and the game looks amazing and so far is alot of fun. I do not regret the purchase.
I am running at 2650x1440 w/o AA though and I could NEVER do that with 1 or warhead.

I do hate the stereotypically tough guy marine chatter but I can live with it.

what if the second half of the game the PS3 version would've "performed" better? He wouldn't know, would he?

is this not lazy journalism. Not professorial at all. And the Editors *let him* get away with it.

edit- I mean, is there not something wrong with this?

"Xbox 360 version of Crysis 2 from EA last Friday, on March 18th, which I played through primarily on my home theater setup. playing one version on a home theater setup, compared to what type of TV/monitor play on in the office. What happened to equal setting to come to an professional journalistic conclusion?
