their screenshots are consistant with the other PS3 screens i've seen in that the PS3 seems to have lighting more akin to the PC version (and more aesthetically pleasing at least to my eyes anyway).

it could be down to selective screenshotting, but i don't think so at this point.

Its confusing.. There is practically zero difference in saturation in those comparison shots, whereas every other screenshot ive seen, including what Ive played in the demo, shows the ps3 version looking slightly blurrier and washed out.. If anything it looks to me like they are purposely picking their images to show as little difference as possible, or place in favor...and then there is the more important subject of performance.. which ultimately can swing it the other way.

LoT hates texture pop in and tends to focus on it a lot. In their Homefront comparison they have a similar pic but point out that they showed the 360 screen the way they did because it takes a lot longer for the texture to pop in.

Lack Of Truth?

install your 360 games to HDD LOT!

I think people selectively choose to regard their opinion based on convenience.

I also find it strange that this IGN reviewer was apparently pointing the finger at the PS3 version's framerate as being significantly worse; the 360 version is routinely prone to severe framerate drops into the 15-20 fps range, and there's plenty of video evidence showing this. I've seen hours and hours of walkthrough HD footage on both versions (final build), and the framerate looked roughly equivalent, scene-for-scene. And by equivalent, I mean they were both crappy.

All the screens and video that show the PS3 version looking "washed out" is most likely due to the capture-artist taking the PS3 footage in "Limited Range RGB." If they were to set the PS3's video output settings to "Full Range," then you'd most likely see roughly equivalent gamma and contrast levels between the PS3 and 360 versions. This has always been the case with most PS3-to-360 game comparisons.

Yeah, that raises my eyebrows as well. At this point, everyone that played the demo's know that they both have whatever issues they have. The differences are there in both versions, but IGN is making it seem as if the PS3 is running Dig Dug. The harping on the PS3 version is the only real weird thing.

You folks are absolutely crazy. They look about the same, the PS3 version being a bit blurrier due presumably to a slightly lower resolution. If you cared that much about IQ, you'd be playing it on a PC. Otherwise, you're comparing apples to slightly blurrier apples.

I played the PC version for about an hour earlier. The settings jazz is annoying but overall, it seems like a very optimized title. 2.4 Quad core, 8gb ram and a 5770. I'm playing it on my TV at 720p at very high and I'm usually rocking around 60fps.

Still, I wish I could fool around with the settings...

I havent heard anyone say that the framerate was flawless on 360, just better than on PS3... It certainly was in the demo.

Yeah, I think most of us know LOT is garbage, and that the game is for the most part almost identical on both the PS3 and the 360. But I think (again, most) people are just having a little fun finding some minor differences - Even though most of these differences isn't much defined and quantifiable, and sometimes stems from dubious sources.

Been playing PS3 version for about 2 hours now roughly, looks and runs pretty great. There was some slight slowdown early on but once the game opened up most of it seemed to disappear.

I haven't noticed any of this "blurry-ness". Running it on a 1080p monitor.

We really need a graphics comparison thread for this game, actual game impressions are completely getting lost here. :(

Certainly, I would not dispute that the framerate in the PS3 demo was worse than that of the 360 demo. However, one thing you should consider is that Crytek off-loaded development of the multiplayer mode onto Free Radical (the developers of Haze and Timesplitters); this may or may not account for the poor graphical performance of the PS3 version in multiplayer. One can surmise as to the possibility that Free Radical isn't as familiar with the engine (or its associated optimization techniques for the PS3), or are simply lesser developers than Crytek.

What's interesting is that the PS3 demo defaulted to a less-than-desirable 1080i/p upscaled mode, which could add to framerate and performance issues due to the additional software scaling overhead. Not to mention the extra scaling being done could result in a blurry overall image (poor scaling mechanism on the PS3, perhaps).

Many signs, subtle as they may be, point to Free Radical mishandling the multiplayer portion of the PS3 version.

Quick question: Does the game default to upscaled 1080p? Or does it default to 720p?

Well if you install to HDD it should fix that, shouldn't it? Also, how does the texture stream faster on PS3 if it's bluray, compared to a DVD? Or is it one of those games that forces you to install?

That's one biased post.

Let's try to balance it a little:

Things Crysis 2 does better than KZ3:

1) HDR (very good implementation).
2) 100% realtime lighting and shadowing with GI and Image Based Lighting.
3) SSAO.
4) Bokeh DOF.
5) More advanced shaders (SSS for characters, translucency for aliens, proper specular reflectivity, etc...)
6) Physics. Take a look at any Crysis 2 level, they're filled with interactive physical props. Big metal containers are also deformable.
7) Much more open levels.

All in all, both games look fantastic.

Long answers aside.. Unless a game was developed with PS3 as lead platform, it will be either exactly the same or better on 360... Honestly there is no argument here.. If you have the option of either or (Consoles) and you are making a decision based on graphics, its going to be 360.

you can not hide things in a realistic setting such as this with art as you can in a fantasy world

What were the exe commands to fix the FOV and stop intro vids?

You can open up system.cfg and add them in there.

g_skipintro = 1
cl_fov = 80
r_DrawNearFoV = 80
pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov = 80

People want impressions of the PC version? I dunno, I'm playing it with a controller for right now because I'm being lazy, but it performs really well for me.

Phenom II @ 3.5GHz
Radeon 6950 2GB
4GB DDR3

Playing Extreme at 1080p and getting between 40-60fps. I might try limiting it to 30 later and some more messing around.

PS - I got the console to drop down, but the con_restricted and other commands don't register. Anyone know how to get them to work?

Ran into a minor texture problem right after you kill the first alien there was graffiti on the wall and that entire wall texture vanished and when an alien ran by the texture popped back in, not a big deal i just thought it was a little odd, i would of spoiler tagged but it's not really a spoiler, game is about alien invasion :D

Ordered the 360 version. Must be a fun shooter and i'm betting it looks good enough to have some amazing moments.

I just think the tiny extra's will make it a more immersive experience than on the PS3.
Move functionality might have won me over to the ps3 side.

Just picked up the PS3 version and am downloading a patch that's a little more than double what patches usually take up. Anyone know what it does?

EDIT: Also, I'm still installing but this does scale to 1080p on PS3 and not just 720p like reported in one article from the other day.

Cool. I thought I read online people suggesting to set the PS3 at 720p so the game would look its best. I'd rather just leave it checked at 1080p.

Not sure what to think of the game yet. Visually, it's very impressive for DX9 but I can't help but notice the downsides to it as well (low res textures, faux DX10/11 effects, etc.).

Gameplay-wise, I'm a little disappointed. I thought the lack of prone was a MP-only thing, not something I would have to put up with the entire game. What the fuck, man. Then, there's the fact that lean is no longer on Q and E but context based, much like what is found in Killzone - my initial thought was that it's a downside but in practice it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Lastly, the goddamn visor tells you everything you can possibly do in a given area - so much for figuring shit out for yourself. Sigh.

And last, but most certainly not least... the game itself. Why do I have to input my Serial Key EVERY SINGLE TIME I START THE GAME? What the fuck was Crytek thinking??

Sigh. It's not all bad but it certainly is a bit disappointing. On the plus side: the game runs flawlessly "maxed out" (lol whatever the fuck that means now).

It's hard to tell honestly. I noticed very early on there was a bit of slowdown but once I stepped outside lot's of that disappeared and I can't really notice much of any. My eyes aren't great to determine fps unless it's a drastic drop and I've not seen any of that.

Still really enjoying it. Seems like an insanely long game too (there are a LOT of missions).

Honestly, the game kind of feels like a mix of Half-Life and Crysis to me and that is not a bad thing. I'm a little disappointed with story thus far as it isn't as engaging as I would have liked, but everything else is ace.

Amazed that the game simply does not drop frames on my rig. No matter what is happening, it never ever drops below 60 fps. No stuttering, hitching, drops or anything. Always flawless. Smoothest PC game I've played in a while. At the very least, there are often tiny little drops here and there in PC games that I've just learned to live with. Nothing like that here. Even when the screen is full of alpha effects and particles, it holds 60 fps.

Ok, I need some multiplayer tips stat.

I'm doing terrible, and haven't had a good game yet.

I feel like everyone drops me instantly, and I need to pump so many bullets into people to kill them.

As a reference, I was doing pretty good in the beta.

So far it's been fine. I've been in a couple of insane firefights (4-5 soldiers on screen) with lots of cars blowing up and it bogged down for just a second. Nothing that greatly detracts from gameplay by any means.

The worst part I've seen is during the
tunnel chase with the armored car.
It seemed to be choppy for a good portion of the sequence.

Yes, the 3D requires a compatible TV, but surprisingly it doesn’t require those expensive active-shutter glasses. wtf ?
what kind of glasses you need depends on the TV and not the game

Somewhere a few pages back someone described how to do it. It involves a file that could be in two different places, and had a bunch of sample suggested settings. Sorry I don't have a link right offhand. :(
