Crysis 3 Open Beta starting Jan 29th

Maybe someone may care, but Crytek FINALLY fixed the 1080p through HDMI problem they had where if you were through a receiver, even though the display is 1080p capable, the image output was shrink down like if it didn't fit. Now 1080p through HDMI through a receiver works flawless!

Thanks Crytek! And thanks for the boost in performance too!
 
Is this what the retail 360 version will look like? Motion blur is a huge part of the visuals, and it's absent here.

No they didnt (at least not completely), if you have more than one monitor / TV set up the problem ist there again...

You know its kinda like Flood/Infection in Halo but with a bow instead of a sword...
(and it is way better balanced=more fun)

They decided that the game is blurry enough as is and scraped it.

I've had more successful host migrations during my hour and a half in this beta than I had in my ~3 days playtime in Crysis 2. Kill cams still look ridiculous cuz of the lag, but overall it seems more stable than Crysis 2 was.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the grain filter that was present in both Crysis 2 and now Crysis 3? It's especially visible if you use the LumaSharpen feature from SweetFX, and I absolutely hate it.

Maldo's mod specifically mentioned removing the grain filter, but I don't know if I ever figured out how he did it.

Actually, it seems like only the Museum stage has the grain filter.
 
well after a few hours, I'll be looking to pick it up on discount. Just more of the same to me.

Predator/Hunter mode just feels silly. Like a game of tag, but without the fun. Oh and fuck the bow and arrow. It's incredibly frustrating. Yea, it's also hella satisfying, but missing with an arrow just always puts you in a horrible position. I'd pay $25-$35 for it. No more.
 
Well. I gave the game a chance and I'm sorry, I found it really boring. Oh well. Third time wasn't a charm after playing 3 builds of the game.
 
Whether I'll buy it or not will depend on how good the single-player is. I hope it'll be more replayable(and fun) than Crysis 2.
 
Tried both modes and both maps. Not feeling any of them. Nor am I feeling the gunplay.

It just feels like Crysis 2 (which I didn't like either) just optimized more for consoles (PS3 beta of C2 was a total mess).
 
After playing the beta, I am in two minds as to if I should buy it, £40 for Crysis 1 and 3 is good but I didn't play a lot of the multiplayer in two so I don't know how much I'll play in three either.
But I would play the campaigns in both but, I dunno...

For me, Crysis is all about the campaign. Now, I happen to enjoy Crysis 3's multiplayer but I will still be spending most of my time in single player.

Also, was anybody else really impressed with the art style? The maps are beautifully destroyed and have a great "overgrown" feel to them. It's exceptional in my opinion.
 
Hunter mode is a lot of fun. My friends and I were having a blast.

Although I'm sure everyone would rather be the hunter. I know I just got myself killed as quickly as possible just to hunt down folks.
 
I like the bow but I hate the super fast movement when zoomed in with it.

Aiming is weird enough with a mouse in this game (there has to be some odd acceleration or smoothing going on)

Trying to aim precisely when zoomed in with the bow is a pain.
 
Played it for about an hour. Standard FPS drivel that does nothing aside from being another CoD clone. Camo is totally broken. Hunter gametype is beyond terrible.
 
I gotta say this is maybe the absolutely ugliest high profile PS3 game I have ever seen. Absolutely disgusting. Crytek has talked so much shit in the past about how "fast" they have Cryengine running on Cell. This game is literally so ugly that I can't play it. It also feels like shit. What a joke

If you're going to call it a clone, at least name drop Unreal, Perfect Dark or Halo.

I think Hunter would be better as melee only. Getting bow sniped by invisible people isn't all that much fun.

Really? I thought it was the best mode and had a great time with it. The survival aspect is very cool.
 
Is there any chance for visual improvements on consoles...cause it looks worse to the eye (i have no idea the resolution etc/) than BF3 and COD. They talk so much about their tech on consoles...its just kinda ok looking.??

No way, then it would be too easy for C.E.L.L. to kill them. Their camo is great from a distance, but once you play enough, you can spot them once they're close enough.

If you use the tools that are avaliable to you isn't that hard to surive entire rounds, or even ending being the last survivor.

Also C.E.L.L weapons are overpowered.

but that's the thing: once you get good, you'll be sniping with the bow and arrow from long range. I picked off several people today from what I would estimate to be about 30 yards. Much too far away to trigger their proximity alarms. Meh.

I wouldn't judge game looks based on a MP beta. The single player graphics were much better on consoles than the MP portion of the game.

That may be it actually. In fact, on my sessions the hunters had a hard time. It's pretty damn awesome when you're in a group of 4 survivors and the Hunter "music" starts playing.

These two games are being released five years apart and Haze wasn't from a team that had previous PS3 experience and had already released a better looking game on it. The PS3 version of this is unacceptable from a tech standpoint. Everything is worse than it was in 2, with the exception of no more ghosting from the AA and a slightly wider FoV. Everything else is downgraded or completely removed.

My main qualm is that the prox alarm isn't directional. And the Hunter respawn time should be a lot longer, because it's not easy to drop them and their numbers are constantly increasing.

Crysis 2 had some nice subtle effects, like depth of field, motion blur and dynamic lens flares.
The character models were a lot more detailed too. Not to mention the neat glowing effect you got when you went into armor mode. (it's still there but it's seriously downgraded)

It's the little things I really liked that seem to be missing.

I hope the final version will look better than the beta. It's not that important to me, but its a bit of a shame when a game's predecessor looks better in almost every way.
 
just tried the demo on 360

LOL

looks like hot garbage. literally looks to be a last gen game compared to very high on the PC.

No seriously. The MP Beta looked like shit. (Performance was garbage too)

The MP demo is what you're describing.

Im comparing it to the MP graphics of the other games...so its a fair comparison if this is one of those "this beta is really more of a demo and we are only tweaking spawns and weapons" and not a "this is an actual beta, seriously we have months of work left, beta"

If the latter I will reserve judgement...if this is what it looks like then its a step back from current console MP graphics.

I'm going to ask them on twitter right now. I'm an enormous Crysis fan so this beta is really disappointing from a technical standpoint. Hopefully it's just an old build like the BF3 beta was or it's just multiplayer.

Maxed out consoles, Blood from stone...etc

Crysis on consoles needs a next gen redemption. This engine was just not made for the current gen and it shows.

Also explains why Ryse was moved to next gen.
 
Just played a few hours of this, and yeh the game isnt the greatest but it was more to test the performence level on my i5 3570k / 660 3gb sli setup. Pretty pleased with the performence with everything maxxed on very high.

Get 70fps @ 1080p with smaa or a solid 60 at the same res with 2x msaa.

When i start downsampling... 2560 x 1440 i get 40-50 fps with smaa and 40-45 with 2x msaa.

I also decided to go a bit crazy with the downsampling and try it at 3200x1800 and i was pleasantly suprised. Played it locked at 30fps with smaa.

Considering this is the beta and drivers/sli profiles will improve, im quite impressed with how optimised this is. Bodes well for the singleplayer performence on my setup. Pretty pleased considering i built this rig in anticipation of this game. Im well set, bring on the eye candy mods!

What baffles me is that Crysis 2 looks better than this. My opinion is that this time around Crytek spent much more development time on the PC and they just skimped on the console ports.
