Crysis 3 Open Beta starting Jan 29th

What baffles me is that Crysis 2 looks better than this. My opinion is that this time around Crytek spent much more development time on the PC and they just skimped on the console ports.
Maybe the consoles that got the best Crysis 3 ports just aren't out yet.

how do the dogtags work? I just noticed Maximum Radar was connected to the tags after an entire day of playing. do they stay on the ground all match long?

Not sure about all match long. You essentially collect them to get killstreaks, which I like because it discourages camping for kills.

Seems to run fine on ps3, but seems really low res and appears to lack detail i thought was there on C2 for 360. Is the single player supposed to look good?

I'm no technical expert, but my guess is that they tried to squeeze more visual features into the console versions, ironically making the game look shittier as a whole.

Never expected to uninstall that so quickly.

Tried to play it a bit longer but after about 20 minutes I just couldn't click with it (PC version).

Holy shit, just started up the 360 beta and it looks atrocious. How the hell is the difference so big compared to PC?

Console optimisation (sorry I couldn't resist after all the vgleaks thread hilarity).

In all seriousness, what you are seeing is what these games look like when you turn off/done down all the shit that normally blinds you and 'hides' the flaws , the game behind the blur/bloom/glow/lensflares
It's not pretty is it^^

Kudos to crytek for turning all this shit down, gameplay > 'graphics' (I wouldn't call blur and post processing filters graphics anyhow). All that blur and screen distrotion and shit horribly gets in the way of seeing what is going on and actually playing games.

A lot of features that were shown in that tech trailer are missing in the PC as well. They might be in single player only.

No, they disappear reasonably quickly and they are what count towards the 'kill streak rewards', not the actual kills themselves.

It stops people camping to abuse the system which is smart and gives you something else to do other than point and shoot. You have to run and pick up 3,5 or 7 or so dogtags in a row without dying to unlock each of the single use skills.

I gotta say this is maybe the absolutely ugliest high profile PS3 game I have ever seen. Absolutely disgusting. Crytek has talked so much shit in the past about how "fast" they have Cryengine running on Cell. This game is literally so ugly that I can't play it. It also feels like shit. What a joke

Sorry dogg. Shit is beautiful on my PC!

You just described Crysis 2. Crysis 3 on consoles is doing the opposite with slightly better IQ.

EDIT: Beaten

There are FEWER visual features and those that are there all look worse.

Don't they have dx11 features running on consoles for the first time though?

Crytek said:
"We want to make sure as much as is humanly possible can translate from a DX11 variant into a DX9 variant, that will work almost as good on an Xbox console to whatever extent we can, because we don't want the experience to be different between the platforms," Rasmus Højengaard, director of creative development at Crytek, told Eurogamer.

"It is very, very difficult, but it is possible. It just requires a lot of effort. Some of the stuff these guys are making work on consoles now is absolutely amazing. It's render features that shouldn't theoretically work on consoles, but they've managed to construct code that can emulate a similar thing from a… hack and slash sounds wrong, but they don't have the same streamlined pipeline you would have with a DX11 structure, but they can get to a similar result just by experimenting and using tips and tricks."

It's just PR to sell more copies.

I can get DX11 features running on Gamecube to by the logic their using. It's pretty much just a terribly optimized shader effect in the end with using the pipeline.

That's impossible. You actually believed 98% of whatever you saw in that tech trailer was possible on current gen? lol

God no. Like I said, I just figured they would try to jam pack as much as possible into the systems just to say they "got dx11 features on console", even though it ended up looking worse. Developers do that shit all the time, especially in cases when they're trying to make iq look good for images, when the game actually runs like ass.

That's awful PR then. Like people aren't going to see the game before they buy it and notice the discrepancy between the bloated talk and the actual product? Well...nevermind.

Whats really funny is that I know this dude personally. Drugs is a motherfucker. Back on topic. Running the game on 1366X768 on very high settings looks amazing when I let my HD set upscale that picture for me. With MSAA to clean up the IQ, and get the game to run on a solid 60fps.

Crytek are overrated.

A game can be the most beautiful thing to look at, but if it plays like shit then whats the point?

why cant cytek nail the fundamentals of a fps yet?

I enjoyed crysis 2 but I would cringe every time I would mellee an alien to death. It would be the same repeated animation and it looks fucking stupid. and what about the wonky hit detection and death animations?

and by looking at the crysis 3 trailers it looks like a prettier version of crysis 2. Have they even improved the gunplay at all?

edit: I am on a keto diet and the most simplest things are like quantum physics to me, so excuse my bad grammar.

Played the PC demo for a bit. It defaulted me to Medium effects at my monitor native rez but it looks very good and with vsync played damn smooth.

Crash Site is almost ridiculously hectic. The hit detection seems .... weird ... but it's hard to tell with nanoArmor and other perks. I really liked the airport map, TONS of cool routes and they made great use of the ledge grab feature.

Hunter. Wow. WAY more fun than I thought it was going to be. So far the only thing I could see coming back and play more than just for giggles. Kind of a shitty map as I think the main building is a bit too easy to defend with a decent CELL group unless the hunters group up and swarm.

So far, more impressed with the MP than I thought I was going to be. Didn't see a single glitcher or anyone I thought was hacking or anything.

you know nothing and were banned for it

Anyone know whats up with V-sync?

Its unplayable for me if I have that on.....it either goes to 60 FPS, or drops to 30 really quick in a more intense graphic sections. It's like Im teleporting or something when it keeps switching between those frames.

Yeah I don't expect my good luck to last.

But then again, that was my only run-in. I've had it great, too. Just as impressed. And every public Beta goes through this, so it's not surprising.

At least it's not as bad as CODWAW's public beta. People were killing from under the maps!

My main qualm is that the prox alarm isn't directional. And the Hunter respawn time should be a lot longer, because it's not easy to drop them and their numbers are constantly increasing.

Well being directional would made it to easy to spot hunters and also I like the sensation of hearing the alarm and panicking. Also if the timer for respawn were longer it would be hard for hunters to kill all people, matches are quite short.

Also try to use the gunner class: they got the grenades that make the hunters visible and disrupt their radar and the secondary function of their weapon can make mobile holograms of you.

Are arrows suppose to be able to shoot through thin walls or is that a bug? Watched a replay as an arrow basically ignored the surface of the wall and passed on through, nailing me in the thigh.

This beta is pretty amazing to me. I've never played a multiplayer game where the bow is so fun. It's hard to aim, not all shots are 1 hit especially if you don't have it fully drawn, but if you get the chest/head I think it's a guaranteed one hit kill. Get really good with it and you'll be pretty unstoppable, in part because you don't go out of cloak when you fire.

I've been playing the beta on 360, and I'm enjoying it much more than Crysis 2's MP. Graphics aren't as good, but the framerate seems better, and I love all the little tweaks they've made to how the suit works.

Hunter mode is awesome. It's like everything I'd want out of an Aliens MP shooter (minus the Aliens). Good call by Crytek putting these gametypes in the beta rather than just standard deathmatch. I was going to skip Crysis 3, but I plan on picking it up now.

I'm expecting a Maximum Trilogy set or something.

I'd say it's pretty safe to expect this at launch, with only Crysis 3 MP. What else have Crytek got? Home front 2 or Warface maybe?

The beta really needs a tutorial or something. I understand how to play Hunter mode, but I have no fucking clue how everything works in the other mode. What does putting armor on do? Is it King of the Hill or something? Surely it shouldn't be this hard to figure out the objective.

I don't know what some PC guys are talking about. I have a 3570K and 670 FTW and this game still looks like shit compared to Crysis 2 maxed out, and it runs at half the clip.

Hopefully Frankfurt made better use of their own engine and single player is better... because this is just... wow. I was playing ME1 the other day and even that is looking better than this multiplayer. Shocking.

I know it's a beta... but the BF3 beta looked astonishing in comparison.

For what it's throwing up on the screen, it should be running at at least 60fps for everyone. My brain is melting at how bad this looks :/

How many frames are you getting? I have the same FTW card and same i5.

Like I said, V-sync is unplayable at my system, keeps switching between 30 FPS and 60FPS whenever it feels like it if I have it on.

Without it, I'm getting about 45-55 FPS constant. Sometimes goes to 60FPS a bit. feel disappointed. This was my first time building a PC and I wanted to max every game. The Simcity beta was the same, got about 45-50 FPS after filling up the city, don't know if that was normal.

How could they make it any easier? You literally just run to the target on the screen, stand in the circle and get points. I figured it out in seconds, before I even knew how to activate my suit abilities or what to press for melee (using 360 pad on PC). Armor mode gives you extra ... armor. Stealth ... stealths.

With Vsync, it drops to a constant 30 a lot of the time because the fluctuation is so damn bad and it's completely unstable. So, with that it's literally a nauseating fest of fast and slow up to 60. With it off, I get about the same as you depending on what settings I play with.

I've found that Shadows are inexcusably demanding... if you turn Shadows all the way down to low and leave the others on high, you might be able to get a pretty constant 60. I left textures at Very High because they honestly don't even look that great to begin with.

The cheap AA methods are way more demanding than their injector counterparts. FXAA not only looked the best to me as far as post process, but also ran the fastest. Probably can thank the consoles for that.

This is a far cry from Far Cry 3, which looked and ran pretty fantastic overall.

Wut? No, just no. I play Crysis 3 on minimum settings and it still looks better than mass effect 1 on max settings.

ok, you got me. I was slightly overexaggerating.

It is able to provide me with a more visually pleasing experience, with inferior effects. That is what I should have said.

Crysis 3 beta has a lot of fancy effects, but almost none seem to be able to make up for its questionable art direction and implementation.

Like I said, I really hope the single player is a totally different story. I wouldn't be surprised if it was either. This was the case for C2, to my eyes at least.

No it's just like C2 mp beta last time it hasn't been optimized or have all the features turned on. At release all modes will allow for the best your system can do.

In other news Crysis 3 Cvar config has been released. Use the program to make the eye candy more towards your preference without the hassle of typing all the commands in. Sorry if this has been posted already.
