Crysis 3 Open Beta starting Jan 29th

Why would they pass up the opportunity to show off Cry3 in its full glory on the home consoles? They don't want that blurry mess to be their legacy on non-PC platforms.

Why would they care what their legacy is. They are making more money from Warface than they will from any console releases. There is a reason the company is shifting to F2P only after they finish the contract with Microsoft

Some useful console commands (from the cvar help linked above)
Crysis 3 CVar Help said:
r_DrawNearFOV the field of view for nearby objects (held weapon, etc)
hud_hide If this cvar is true the HUD will be hidden from view completely.
cl_bobhud Controls the amount of bob hud which is applied.
r_ColorGrading Enables or disables the artist controlled color grading post-processing effect.
r_Sharpening Controls the level of the post-processing image sharpening filter.
r_ChromaticAberration Controls the level of the post-processing chromatic aberration.
r_HDRBloomRatio Controls the level of bloom used
g_skipIntro Skips the introduction movies that play before the main menu at game boot

They said they don't even profit from Crysis so it's not like they're doing it for the money anyway.

Anyone know whats up with V-sync?

Its unplayable for me if I have that on.....it either goes to 60 FPS, or drops to 30 really quick in a more intense graphic sections. It's like Im teleporting or something when it keeps switching between those frames.

Without it, I'm getting about 45-55 FPS constant. Sometimes goes to 60FPS a bit.
How do you guys expect vsync to run at constant 60fps when you dont even get those nummbers without it?

What happens is the game runs its vsync at 60fps as long as your fps are above 60, if they drop lower than that it goes all the way down to 30fps.
This constant 30fps shift is what causes the game to "lag".

Try limiting your fps via the autoexec to 30fps or reduce your settings to a point where you get constant 30fps+ and you should not have problems anymore.
(you wont get more than 30/60fps of course, but thats kind of the point)

How many frames are you getting? I have the same FTW card and same i5.

Like I said, V-sync is unplayable at my system, keeps switching between 30 FPS and 60FPS whenever it feels like it if I have it on.

Without it, I'm getting about 45-55 FPS constant. Sometimes goes to 60FPS a bit. feel disappointed. This was my first time building a PC and I wanted to max every game. The Simcity beta was the same, got about 45-50 FPS after filling up the city, don't know if that was normal.

Beta has not internal triple buffer, you can activate it with DXOverrider. Then your framerate will be smooth. Try this config

Despite the issues with the demo I actually ended up putting a fair few hours into the Crysis 2 MP on the PS3. The core gameplay for it was fun but it was let down by the resolution, the framerate on busy maps, the weird sound glitches and the lack of support.

I was therefore pretty hopeful that they would have learnt from this with Crysis 3 and focused on the gameplay part of the MP but, having played the Beta last night that's clearly not the case.

I don't expect or demand any kind of cutting edge graphics on the consoles at this stage in their lives but I do expect to be able to make out what's going on on the screen instead of staring at a pixellated mess of blur and low resolution accompanied by gameplay that lags so much the sound effects sometimes occur over a second after the shot. Seriously, the stills in this thread do not represent what is happening in motion on a reasonably sized tv. Also, teh game felt really sluggish.

It's a real shame because the couple of games I played of Hunter mode were good fun and I could see me and my friends putting a fair bit of time into that but I don't think I could commit to something that requires squinting to play.

Interesting. On 360 it's far more playable than what you're describing on PS3. The game looks distinctly less impressive than Crysis 2 on 360 (beta issue?), but it also seems more responsive. I was expecting Far Cry 3 levels of console performance and was pleasantly surprised to find otherwise. In any case, comparing that PC footage to what I'm seeing on 360 is painful. Next gen can't come fast enough.

Also, Crytek's lack of support for Crysis 2 on consoles was unforgivable.

Crysis 2 static/grain bug.

Never forget.

Yeah admittedly I might have been influenced by having played a lot of twitchier FPS games online since putting down Crysis 2 but it seemed really sluggish in turning and felt like I was fighting the controls a fair bit when wanting to travel vertically.

Graphics wise the Airport map was particularly hard on the eyes - the Museum map was more aesthetically ugly but far easier to actually see what was going on. I'd much rather they cut out a lot of the effects and just focused on getting it running.

I'd like to give it the beta benefit of the doubt as I enjoyed the second one but, like you say, the lack of support post launch last time really soured the experience.

No it's just like C2 mp beta last time it hasn't been optimized or have all the features turned on. At release all modes will allow for the best your system can do.

In other news Crysis 3 Cvar config has been released. Use the program to make the eye candy more towards your preference without the hassle of typing all the commands in. Sorry if this has been posted already.

Where is system.cfg from this this program supposed to go?

I asked on your site, but I'm needy and sleepy, so what will your Config do for a 580? Is it only for dual 600s or something?

Is for everyone. With one 580, use DXOverrider and test my config. Good enough for 1080p. Maybe you have to lower something if you want perfect 60 fps. Share performance results here or in the blog.

Just tried it. Great performance and looks like all high or very high. Dips to 54 sometimes, but doesn't affect much. Thank you so much.

Also use DXOverrider for what? I don't use Vsync, I don't mind tearing. But if there's another reason I'd like to know.

I dont get it, why this game doesnt have theater mode? Its already recording the whole Your gameplay. Lets hope that they add in the final game.

Was just wondering. You say to install RivaTuner then find and move the DXOverrider folder to wherever you want and use that. But i can't find the DXOverrider. I was wondering if you'd be as kind, to point me in the right direction?

Thanks very much for your guide and I've already tested and got good results from your config.

I literally only played the beta just to see the graphics. I have zero interest in Crysis 3's MP (or 2's MP, or 1's MP for that matter..)
Looks pretty good, but not really a huge leap over C2 or anything.
I got a pretty rock solid 30FPS with everything on Very High, SMAAx2 (or T2 or whatever it was called). Hoping the SP is better optimised, or we can at least turn off individual DX11 features, so we dont have a repeat of the 'entire tesselated ocean being rendered underneath the map' shit from C2.

I did years ago but I remember DXOverrider is somewhere into RivaTuner installation folder. I said to remove RivaTuner because maybe you don't need RivaTuner, only DXOverrider what is an added standalone feature into RivaTuner. After RT installation, search for DXOverrider.exe in your computer.

why cant cytek nail the fundamentals of a fps yet?
Play through Crysis (PC), come back here and try to say the same with a straight face.

Crytek nailed FPS already with Far Cry, and Crysis was another case. But, the thing is that dev teams change and that was very apparent in C2. The difference is night vs. day.

sigh... that is not how the tesselated ocean worked at all... but whatever.

And... there is a Config tool that has ben released which allows oyu to configure a whole bunch of options. Scroll up the page or check back one page to find it.

I'm having fun with it, but the MP on 360 for Crysis 2 has fallen off. I wonder if the same thing would happen to this one? Is there still a lot of people playing 2 on PC?

I7-920 at 3.4ghz, GTX 670 all settings maxed was getting 25-30 fps.
I forgot to update the drivers, will do that later and see if the performance increases.

I use D3DOverrider for vysnc/triple buffer. You must use the 2 in combination, and want to disable vysnc in-game. If you only activate one it won't have desired results. Activating both increases my frame rate and completely gets rid of tearing. One of the most important things I learned about pc gaming.

You can still find people playing on pc, yes, but I don't use matchmaking, I browse servers. Matchmaking for Crysis 2 is pretty borked on consoles, never really tried it on PC. I think if Crytek can get their netcode straightened out a bit and learn from their mistakes, Crysis 3 will have some legs and last a lot longer.

I am getting a signiicant performance difference between the Museum and Airport level. I can understand why (fog, water, shadows everywhere), but it still sucks.

I am on my 4th or 5th suit reboot after 6h39 min of game time.

I have never been this good at an online FPS in my life. I am sure people will catch up when the game releases, but so far I am crushing it.

I think this game has a little less of a learning curve than Crysis 2, mainly because the new split energy bar that doesn't drain when you run and jump(and maybe the perk that goes into armor mode automatically), but I do fear that it still might be pretty steep for the average gamer.

If you constantly switch suit modes, use ledge grab a bunch to gain high ground and use power jump to juke people, a beginner has no chance against you. I've gotten the "indecisive" medal in a ton of games for switching suit modes the most. But in my opinion that all makes it much more skillful than most shooters out there. Not to mention the Halo like shield that requires precision to take down someone rather than being able to pretty much swipe past the opponent to get the kill like Call of Duty or other more "realistic" shooters.

edit: I'm loving the new grenade arc in the game; you can launch the shit out of those things now.

They should take it out, there shouldnt be automatic mode for the most important power in combat situations.

I actually don't mind it because I go into armor mode every time I go into battle out of habit. My guess is when you go into armor mode automatically with the perk it does some damage before it activates, so you'll still die quicker than if you activated it beforehand manually(will have to test). And that's a perk that could have been used elsewhere, I know I personally will not use it. The only advantage I see it having is when someone shoots you from behind, which I try not to let happen too often. It's great for a beginner as it levels the playing field a little, but for a more advanced player I think there will be better options.

ok so a big reason for the hitching appears to be textures streaming pool size. The game seems to use similarly high res textures ev erywhere, but just intelligently streams them based upon the amount of VRAM you have.

with textures on high and streamsize to 512 i get some minor hitching every once and a while.

If I bring that value down to 384 I see the same high res textures and get a hitch extremely rarely.

If I bring that down to 256... I am pretty sure I get 0 hitching but see obvious texture fade in (like low res to high res kinda like rage).

Anyone with 1280 MB RAM should check these options out.

Don't know if it's been mention in here or it but the most vram I've seen used in the game was 2.8GB on my 580s. This is at 2560x1600, very high, and 8x MSAA.

Literally pushing the 580s as far as they can go.

Its not problem for me too, because i activate armor before engagement and when i get hit immediately, but it takes away killing people in stealth, because they automatically gain armor, instead of dying. It just promote laziness, not skill.

I dont know how it affects player, if it takes theirs health before activating, i'm playing without a hud, so i wont even test it probably :P If they take health damage, then its ok, but if they are not, thats unbalanced, because dont need to care about running on Armor mode when there is danger around and thats big advantage for them.

Dont use 8x MSAA :) It kills VRAM and performance in deferred rendered engine. SMAA 4x is much cheaper, more vram friendly and should be almost as fine.

Oh, if it goes into armor mode automatically when someone gets shot in stealth that's a problem. Are you sure that it does that? I didn't even think about that. I guess it makes sense that it would though...yikes.

I know. It's especially not needed at 2560x1600. I'm all about maxing things out and pushing my pc so I wanted to see what performance would look like with everything at its highest. And was just more curious what vram usage would look like.

could you pehaps tell me your vram usage with everything on very high just SMAA 1x at 1080p?

Would love to know!

Where is system.cfg from this this program supposed to go?

Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Crysis 3 MP Open Beta or the Bin32 folder for the game. You may also need to name it autoexec.cfg if you wish for it to be used upon the game loading. Pretty quick to figure just tinker a few times check a value you changed or a few to make sure it did most or all.

Hunter Mode is legit fun.
Oh and SMH at the PS3 version resolution, i usually dont care about GFX quality but damn what a shame.
