CD Projekt says the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is now in the preproduction stage.

According to a statement accompanying its Q1 2025 financial report, the publisher stated that the sequel, which it now refers to as simply Cyberpunk 2, has entered the next stage of the development process.

I hope they do a bit more with "Choices" most choices in 1 do not change the outcome of anything only very minor changes. You still are on that linear path to Embers.

Ready for Ps6 pro launch :messenger_beaming:
If PS6 releases in 2028 and the Pro in 2032...ain't no way this will be out by then. Not when The Witcher 4 is still years and years away. Trust me, they won't want to repeat Cyberpunk's release. The Witcher 4 only left pre-prodiction like a year or so ago. Cyberpunk 2 will be a cross gen title between PS6 and PS7 lmao.

An entirely different dev team is working on Cyberpunk

So we went from 2077 to 2? I know the first one's lauch was rough but downlaying expectations this much is overreacting.

Maybe they'll release the remaining 2076 through DLC?

5 years to just hit pre-production. this industry is so fucked.

you would think pre-production would start before the first game is released so the team could jump right into production immediately after launch.

At least thats what used to happen back in the days of 2 year dev cycles for sequels. Now everything needs an exploration phase like they are a government entity doing research on the potential impact on the environment before digging a tunnel.

Too bad they're switching to UE5, staying in redengine would have saved a year or two of dev time since all the gameplay systems are already in place and functional.
Guess we'll see this in 9 years for the T pose launch with regular crashes, 11 years for version 2.0 that actually works well

Well worth the wait though, playing through 2077 now and it's been a hell of a ride, phantom liberty in particular really pushes the environment and visuals up a notch

Still being made by their new American studio? Not that it matters too much given the widespread senior exodus at CDPR

Cyberpunk released 5 years ago. Cyberpunk 2 took 5 years just to enter pre-production...which will last for years. Then full production for a huge ass open world game. Someone like Rockstar took from 2018 until 2026 in full production to make and release GTAVI (so 8 years). Imagine one more generation and with development times increasing. 10 years to release Cyberpunk 2 isn't that much, considering it's a much smaller team and with how much they work on those graphics.

Wow that will fall from my estimate 2035. That is almost 10 years from now. I wont overthink about it, I hope they really work hard to make it an excellent product and not rush. Cyberpunk was pretty at launch but was excellent in post launch after updates. Upcoming open world games like Death stranding 2, GTA 6, and Witcher 4 and, maybe I will buy GOY, will keep me occupied.

yay see you in 10 to 15 years.

Hopefully next-gen only and releases around PS6 Pro (2031/32). I expect ground up RTGI (and assets to match) with Path Tracing on PC & PS6 Pro.

Let it be a proper showcase for the next-gen. Witcher 4 and their other project can mop up the current / cross-gen sales.

Don't forget they're dumping the RED Engine because everyone who knows how to work on it left the company. Now it's just another UE5 title.

From strength to strength, CDPR might have the hottest IPs to look forward to.
Two insanely ambitious projects who has to live up and exceed their original titles. Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 (Cyberpunk 2200?)

News that I didn't need to know about.
This is mainly for stockholders tbh. It's always nice to know they are working on a two sequels. One is the sequel of a game that sold over 60M copies (The Witcher 3) and the other one is the sequel of Cyberpunk 2044, which is the comeback of the decade and has sold over 30M copies so far.

I hope they learn their lesson and made the title next-gen only, I don't want to deal with my PS5 bleeding to run the game at 25fps

And we can already see how impressive this latest iteration of Unreal Engine with the Expedition 33 cinematics. Just clean up the hair tech and we are set.

They will have to fix it first. UE5 is dogshit for open world games, they are already trying to do this during W4 development so I think Orion will be alright.

If you go by the original, Its going to take 7 years to make the game and probably another 5 years to patch it.

If they had stuck to REDEngine, I would've said 30/31. But having the team learn UE5 and port stuff that already existed in REDEngine, I'll say 2033.

Also, between the release of Cyberpunk and today, they've fixed a game that should have been delayed by at least 6 months, and released a very good DLC while redesigning a bunch of systems in the game

And i'm sure once The Witcher 4 releases they will also release more DLC and other multiple updates until Cyberpunk 2 releases.

I have crazy expectations for this one. It should be out somewhere around 2031. Let's not forget that there's only like 100 people working on it. They're still building the team.
