Honestly that score is incredible considering the amount of bugs this game has. It sounds like it would have been a masterpiece with a few extra months in the oven.

yes but rememeber. after launch you are going to have mad outlets that didn't get review copies and more progressive outlets choosing resetera's side and labeling the game and cdpr bigoted and that might lower the metascore

The recommended percentage is the real one to look at. 97% recommendation is very high - at the moment higher than TW3.

I've just had a quick look over there and its absolutely crazy. Almost at parody levels. Amazes me it's so popular under those conditions. It's just not representative of any real world I know. I wonder how many actually genuinely enjoy playing games because they seem to hate nearly everything about it and the only passion I can see is them tearing other people and (each other) down while drunk on their own righteousness.

Have in mind that game is very buggy and some reviews are politicized nonsense, so getting a 91 meta is not bad at all.
Read the review don’t care about some numbers. Sure it would’ve been nice to see it score higher but it is what it is. Heavily recommending the IGN Japan piece. Brilliant stuff.

Either it's game site BS to protect their business interests with CDR, or the game is much better than those shitty leaked videos people uploaded the past week.
We'll see. I'll try it out at some point myself. But unless patches really tidy up the game, those leaked streams showed a really sloppy looking game. Maybe the 47gb patch really perked it up.

The review average right now is basically at Witcher 3's level so honestly the game is reviewing extremely well. I hope it stays that way, but very positive signs right now. If it's 90+, at the end of the day that's a great success. That's hard to get now-a-days.

If anything, CDPR will patch this motherfucker until it plays/runs without issue. I would also not put it past them to offer substantial expansions, just like The Witcher 3.
Folks shouldn't worry so much about the bugs unless they are seriously game breaking.

I agree that generally speaking people put too much stock in to reviews (I include myself in that camp)
With Cyberpunk 2077 I think it is elevated from the sheer hype surrounding this game. It has been a shitty year, and people are eagerly anticipating this game, and are looking for validation that we didn't put all of our eggs in the wrong basket.

Im going to wait for a few patches before i dive in. But on the review front, if it holds steady above 90, Id say CDPR succeded in the sense that most gaming outlets and forums had it out for them. I'm curious what the ultimate user review scores will be on Steam and metacritic. Also progressive outlets scores should be shot into the sun.

God this is so weird. I've never ever seen such doom and gloom for a game above a 90 on Metacritic. Is this real life? Like I get it, the game's buggy, and that's bullshit. But if that's the biggest and most common gripe, then at least it's a problem that will get fixed in the future.

But the fact that it has those things, yet still manages (so far) to stay about 90 on MC, is a testament to how good the game is. Also I could give two shits if it doesn't crack to the mid 90s on MC. BTW, and this is kind of important when posting lists like this, surely you know that 3 of those games are LAST year's remakes or re-releases and 2 of them are literally the same game on a different platform. take out those 4 games and its tied to Flight Simulator for the 5th place.

Eurogamer is another site that has become increasingly wokified over the past year or so. Used to be a great site for technical stuff and detailed game reviews, now it's full of articles about crap like this and they'll shadowban anyone who dares contradict their view in the comments sections. And shadowbanning is the lowest of the low; done by cowardly mods who think it's clever. Eurogamer is ERA-lite these days, and it's a real shame.

Just watched this. They do seem a lot harsher on most games usually.
And honestly idk if I am gonna like it:
- Excessive bugs
- Uncreative edgy dirty shock
- value things in the world but without meaningful commentary behind it
- Lots of dialogue/writing is unnatural, coming straight out a translator
- Lots of the side content is just meaningless people just calling you up to do a chore
- NPCs lack depth, often times all just saying the same lines doing the same things
What's good is the main quests are good.

The problem seems to go far beyond bugs. Did you watch the Giant Bomb video above ? They say the writing isn't good and sentences feel off, the quests aren't appealing, the game is just trying to be a GTA like... It's really hype deflating for people who thought it would be on Witcher 3 level or above. It just looks kinda average. I didn't cancel my preorder but I'm a bit disappointed.

Jason Schreier should know the launch has to do more with hitting Christmas sales. Not the same if they release the game in February.
I feel like this will be a situation where the DLCs will surpass the base game just like TW3. Bugs will be fixed by then. All the fundamental assets are in place, hopefully meaning workflow will be more streamlined. Player feedback will be taken into consideration.
Not to say the base game will be an unenjoyable experience. But I think what I envisioned this game to be will be more accurately realized towards the end of 2021.

I know but I expected more from the guys who made The Witcher 3 after all this time. Driving is apparently barely usable, it's a FPS slideshow. People on the street repeat the same sentences, you can't enter the buildings. You've got a star system for police like in GTA. It doesn't look deep at all. They say you don't need the perks and customization because you can kill everybody easily with the guns you found or even with melee. AI is apparently braindead too.
When I hear that I have trouble understanding how the game still got 90 metacritic actually... I thought it was supposed to be an evolution of open world games, not a rehashed mix of existing open world games. It looks completely overhyped at this point.
I hope those Giant Bomb guys are wrong.
