CyberPunk 2077 update 2.2 was outsourced to another studio, more updates could be coming in this fashion

There's scope for even more Cyberpunk 2077 updates, based on what developer CD Projekt Red revealed during its latest livestream.

The open world RPG just got a brand new update — Patch 2.2 — despite the Polish company stating that it was basically done supporting the now four-year-old title.

Previously, CDPR had said that smaller improvements and additions might happen depending on how much development time is needed. Obviously, the teams that once worked on 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion have long since moved on to other projects, like the next The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077's sequel.

So how did Patch 2.2 happen? Well, this is where it gets interesting. CDPR actually outsourced this update to a separate developer called Virtuos.

Virtuos is a massive company made up of studios all over the world, and typically supports developers that are working on big budget games.

Virtuos producer Pauline Debroux was part of the aforementioned livestream, and she explained that her teams work on things like additional quests, levels, DLCs, art assets, and more.

Basically, Virtuos provided the manpower behind this new update, with CDPR overseeing its creation — and that's already got people wondering whether this is just the start of a patch-centric partnership.

Virtuos is terrible

2.2 was the most barebones patch that they've released for Cyberpunk yet.

I wouldnt mind more patches, of course, but I wouldnt expect more than cosmetics and such.

Things that go beyond that would require a better understanding of the engine, and I dont think Virtuos would dig that deep to develop future patches.

CDPR could still add some GAAS stuff to this game in order to keep it alive until the sequel. This game is still very much alive despite being singleplayer only and 4 years old.

It's neat they're still adding stuff, though this is probably not enough to entice me into a new playthrough just yet. It's great to see this game become what it was always meant to be after such a messy launch though.

I kinda don't like the idea of patches being outsourced to other companies but I guess it's ok if the patches are minimal and they're overseeing/reviewing the pull requests

Oh, you can feel the outsourcing in this one. Wonder where it went.

Rockstar handed off RDR2 patches support to their Indian team. It's been a disaster with the game being in the worst state it's been in since launch on consoles. Pop in, texture streaming problems, bad traversal/camera rotation stutter, not to mention issues with clothes clipping, downgraded tree density in the distance, and small bugs that weren't there in the original version. Even the PC port has gotten worse with these problems. Everything after the Naturalist update is a straight downgrade. Makes me sick.

I still have to play a Phantom liberty run and my OCD wants to play the last possible version with all the mods.

Hopefully this means we get to enjoy more videos streams starring Pauline Debroux

Saying this about a game that actually released unplayable and was removed from the PS store is funny.
On a console that was then 7 years old and extremely dated. Game ran fine on a decent PC.

They really should patch the game for the pro though, because they can then market it as a showcase title for Pro Owners.

CDPR actually outsourced this update

I sometimes wonder about how outsources updates work, do they hand over the whole source code for them to make fixes and create stages and the like or they just hand over the tools or the API for the other company to build stages without reusing the original code.

Both, depends on the scope of the project; non admin repository access with their own staging environments is the most likely option.

Nobody denies the controversial past of this game, but since 2.0 and Phantom Liberty it is the game it should have been at release.

True, 2.0 is in a sweet spot.

And there's still some people that will never play the game just because there is no (yet) PS5 pro. All the sudden people still think the game is broken. That post about them saying no plans was fucking hilarious 😂😂😭😭

they prefer crying for a PS5 pro patch and bash on the developers 😂😂😂
