Dad forces son to skip beach trip w/ friends. All beach-bound friends die in crash.

You can say that about anything though. The dad didn't kill five people. There is no alternate reality or final destination shit. The kid didn't go. He wasn't meant to go. The only 'timeline' here is that 5 friends were killed in a crash.

You could speculate anything...

okay.

Heard about this wreck, sounds like they were driving crazy. I'm pretty sure the founder of Tapout died on the same stretch of road.

Yeah, he was about 2-3 miles north of this. I drive this road every day to work too (albeit in a Honda Fit! not a Ferrari or Infiniti).

Jamboree road is one of the easiest roads to drive on. It has long, dedicated turn lanes, slow curves, and wide lanes. It was basically designed to be like a freeway with traffic lights. It usually has pretty low traffic as well. This far south, you will get beach traffic on the weekends.

That said, driving any road at 100 mph is obviously an accident waiting to happen. If I had to drive a car at 100 though, this would have probably been the easiest.

i know the opposite case too:

Girl wants to go skiing. Mother thinks it's too dangerous and she could get hurt.

And she died because the horse she used to ride got scared and she had one unlucky fall.

when I was 17 I drove like a crazy man. Took way too many chances, I need to teach my son better. But kids are going to do dumb stuff exp with girls/boys involved.

Moral of story: Disregard social life and study, study, study.
And: raise your kid not to take stupid risks with other people's lives. A 100 mph crash with no other automobiles involved and the driver doesn't even have a permit. That's nuts.

RIP to all those kids.

Pretty sad. The driver didn't have a license? The car split in two. I driven on Jamboree a bunch of times, but not going at 100 mph. That is nuts.

Could the driver's parents be sued? They had to know he was driving the car without a license.

I don't know if the parents of the passengers can legally seek compensation, but they have just as much blame in the accident. All parents involved needed to inform themselves of the people their kids were traveling with, figure out who the driver was, and see with their own eyes that the kid had a license. Not one of the four pair of parents put forth the effort to make sure their kids were going to be safe.

"whatever dad. that won't happen to me."
I guess the trick is to know your kid's friends better than them. If anyone of them is a speed demon, and they want to go on a ride, make it a red line that they never are in the same car together. It's normal parenting. You wouldn't want your kids around friends who are into meth or cocaine.

Even if the guy had a learner's permit or something... are you allow to have passengers that aren't parents in CA?

Instruction Permit Restrictions

You may use your provisional instruction permit to practice with a parent, guardian, licensed driver 25 years of age or older, or a licensed or certified driving instructor. The person must have a valid driver license in his/her possession and must sit close enough to take control of the vehicle at any time. A provisional instruction permit does not let you drive alone — not even to a DMV office to take the driving test.

If you have an instruction permit that allows you to drive mopeds or motorcycles (or any 2-wheel vehicle), you:

Cannot carry passengers.
Must ride during daylight only.
Cannot ride on any freeway.
I don't think he was supposed to drive with that many passengers on a learner's permit.
Even if he had a license.
License Restrictions

Effective January 1, 2006, you must be accompanied and supervised by a licensed parent, guardian, other licensed driver 25 years of age or older, or a licensed or certified driving instructor when you:

Transport passengers under 20 years of age at any time for the first 12 months.
Drive between 11 PM and 5 AM for the first 12 months.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
That's some freaky Final Destination plot waiting to happen.

Also did none of the kids have a permit or license? If so, father should've and could've stopped them all from going simply because of that. If the kids switched drivers, well...

Damn.

I drive on this stretch of road all the time. People love to speed down this section as they head onto PCH.
Reminds me of a road here where i live where teenagers love to just haul ass down it.

Stupid amounts of people wreck/die on this road here from texting, speeding, drinking and driving or just straight up accidents.

God my mom is going to use this against me whenever she doesn't want me out.

And they're Arab too, fuck.

Really upset about this though, no one deserves to die like that so young. A shame that the driver wasn't as disciplined as the friend who missed out. I've gotten rides from guys who think its funny and even impressive to drive so reckless and it only makes me not get in their car ever again.

i'd say arab men are prone to reckless driving. We have some kind of self-destructive gene, as evidenced by this and the middle east

Holy crap, this is the third Final Destination type death situation in as many days. First the lady in China with the elevator. Second the trailer that broke off the truck and killed the people on the higway, and now this. Eerie.

I don't know what's worse. Getting killed together with all your best friends, or having all your best friends get killed leaving you alone.
My mind's split.

At least they hit a tree, rather than another car. I know it's harsh to say, but it is fortunate that no other vehicles were involved.

Also, the father in this story made the right call and his son was smart/lucky to listen. There's no way having a sixth teenager in the car could have improved on the situation.

If he had gone though the exact sequence of events wouldn't have happened and so there likely wouldn't have been a crash, so the dad didn't save one life he killed five

I mean by that logic any interaction they had that day could've resulted in a difference. Maybe if they stopped by a gas station on the way there and the attendant took 3 seconds longer to scan a package of gum things would've played out differently through some intricate chain of events. It's a silly thing to think about so while I don't think the father saved a life necessarily he most certainly didn't kill others either.

RIP

If we are talking theoreticals, would they have lived if they were Hagwalahing?

At least they wouldn't have split the car.

This is why I hate having passengers in the car. So easy to be distracted and what not.

1, i'm cool, 5? fuck no.

I'm so gonna get a miata or a coupe as my next car >.<

These are the same people you see blow past you on the freeway, zipping in and out in between cars-putting everyone's life in danger from their stupid wrecklessness. It's hard for me to feel sympathy. I do feel for the parents of the other kids-but the drivers family seems like a whole line of shit heads.

I'm guessing drag racing down the street (probably to impress those admittedly cute girls pictured) and the driver either couldn't handle it or hit an imperfection in the road

I'm fairly confident this is the case. Was in a similar situation in high school. In an SUV with a young buck showing off for the ladies and the car spun out in the middle of the road. Thankfully no cars were nearby and nothing was damaged besides dudes pride.

Similar thing happened in my family a couple years ago. My cousin was supposed to pick up this kid to go out and he opted not to go because he was tired. My cousin and three of his friends died in a crash later that night. Had to be eerie as fuck for him.

What if the kid was supposed to be the one driving?

Or if he were in the car he would've forced the guy to slow down and drive normally?

Too many what-ifs.

You can spend all day guessing, but it's highly unlikely that having a sixth teenager stuffed into the car would have suddenly inspired the driver to drive safely. This crash happened because he was driving at 100 mph and lost control. More likely than not, if this kid had gotten into the car, the same accident would have happened, just a minute or two later and with a sixth casualty.

Wow. Just goes to show than a single decision can change everything. Made me think of Final Destination too. But still a tragic incident to happen to people so young.

This is really saddening, I would be a wreck if I heard news like that about any of my friends. I think I would also have a newfound appreciation for my dad.

Like I said, if the guy who was banned from going was supposed to be the driver, then the likelihood of this having similar circumstances is lower.

You never know.

A friend of mine had 6 accidents, the last one wrecked his 3rd car and shattered his hip. One year later he still averages 100 mph on the highway.

Dem Arabs.
