Dance Central |OT| Kinect's Killer App?

game looks like a lot of fun. my only concern is lack of true multi.

sitting around waiting for your turn is always a downer it seems. simultaneous multi is always a bigger success at parties.

It would be great to hear some experiences of dance central at social gatherings.

Did they mention why it's not in the game? I assume the hardware can do it, no?

I'd imagine it's limitations of Kinect and just the way that you're supposed to play the game. Kinect'll have to track both players spot-on, while they try to maintain their distance from each other (while dancing/performing moves) while staying inside the field of view. Not to mention the amount of clutter that would appear on the screen with 2 sets of instructions/silhouettes and scores up.

Really? Seems like a lot of other fun party/friendy sports. Bowling? Dance Central? That kinda stuff?

But, seriously, having seen what I look like in my photos in Dance Central I'm quite sure watching someone play will be hiiiilarious.

Just had 6 ladies dancing in my living room. Kinect sees 3, and scores one, but 6 were rockin' it. Satisfaction indeed.

And to call this a one player game is to not understand what's fun about it. The ladies celebrated the 4-5 star wins like the whole group was doing it, even though they knew it was just the "bright one" being scored.

Harmonix does know their music party games!

Feels like a rush job to test the waters with the lack of songs / features / modes etc whci is very disapointing.

But its still amazing. No doubt the second one will be amazing, but the whole presentation is really nice, the dance moves are awesome, and it blows games like Just Dance out of the water. The downloadable songs are amazing already, especially Because of You. This is already my favorite music game of the year.

Finally got mah pokerface on tonight after setting up the kinect. God I can't wait to show this to wife and friends. Was contemplating going downstairs and waking her up at 2 AM to show her but I'll save it for tomorrow.

What's there is polished, but I agree that it seems like it was rushed (makes sense, they had to make launch). But I honestly don't care, the game is so much fun. The sequel will no doubt have a lot more songs, modes, etc.

Yeah, but it's obvious they spent all their time on the most important part - the basic gameplay and dance-move detection.

haters can hate, but I picked this up with the Buy 2 G1 free and its amazing. I saw the reviews and people were shocked I wasn't considering it, but I had no interest.

Fast forward to my purchase.

This game is AWESOME! Seriously, unbelievably fun and tough as nails. The motion capture is awesome, and I hope to see more menus set p like this games.

Couldn't be more excited for future titles on my Kinect!

Of all the kinect games I was able to try out with my friends today, this to me was the most impressive, from both the technical level as well just for implementation.

This truly shows off kinect the best imo, although Konami's Dance Masters, while not as impressive, leads to far more hilarity. :lol :lol :lol :lol

I have to admit that I am so bad at this game that I am not really having that much fun :(

I'm also worried that I will step on my cat while playing this, he seems to be oblivious to the fact that I am playing :p

So does the DLC add brand new move sets with each song, or does it just recycle the same ones from the main game?

Damn, this game is gonna be a hit! Salute to these brave men and women for uploading this on youtube :lol

wow. all these videos make me not want to buy DC. The tron guy had me laughing for a bit but then He doesn't do more and I was like, wow, boring. The fat guy in the white shirt makes its seem really awkward and unfun.

at least I can look at the 1up videos. Now those were great.

*The walmart one with jason is pretty funny but the huge woman buying magazines... :lol :lol

the song list is pretty crappy, though.

They're perfect for this game, they are pop dance songs, what else do you expect/want? For a mainstream dance game you want mainstream songs.

Jax said:
name some.

Something by daft punk. Hell, something I've actually heard playing in a club like Akon or something would be better than half the list of songs I haven't heard nor feel like dancing too.

And we need some old Disco like Kung Fu Fighting.

That's the beauty of it... They'll can eventually be available for you to download! If you pay for them. :D

Well, I'd be more inclined to get kinect, then, if and when those songs release.

Beastie Boys – "Body Movin' (Fatboy Slim Remix)"
Lady Gaga – "Poker Face"
Lipps Inc – "Funky Town"
Kool & The Gang – "Jungle Boogie"
The Commodores – "Brick House"
Technotronic – "Pump Up the Jam"

Those are the songs I want to play.

Dance-able sure, but I mean, just because you can dance to it won't make it any more appealing to someone who doesn't like the music selection overall. You won't buy Rock Band - Green Day if you hate Green Day music just because it's "playable".

Its an A++ song list for the mainstream market that kinect is targeting.

Its not like they're going to do DC MGMT/Scissor Sisters/Presets - when they should. The song list is very DJhero.

Opus Angelorum said:
It is. I think people are judging the list on the actual song itself, rather than how well it translates to choreography.

I'm sorry I'm judging it by what appeals to me and not what my younger sister wants to listen to.

I disagree.

There may be DLC or future Dance Central games that cater to a particular genre of dance, but they are never going to appeal to those of us (myself included) who listen to non-mainstream music (alternative, heavy metal). Especially when these genres are not typically linked to dance.

This is the first in a possible series, it would be silly to focus on less popular tracks.

That's fine, but even the likes of Rock Band / Guitar Hero will never please everyone.

I also don't particularly like any of the songs, certainly not enough to listen to on my mp3 player. Still, I think it's a great song list in context.

What are you disagreeing with?

I'd argue it certainly makes it more appealing (if only slight).

Are we saying Dance Central would appeal to more people if the song list was catered more to their tastes, at the expense of the core game (dancing)?

Hey, so I got this last night and it rocks.

I didn't play much of it - only 5 songs - but I like what it's doing and I think I can stick with this and learn more of the moves with the break it down feature.

sure, the feature set is limited but I don't think the key game mechanics were rushed. perhaps the only thing that I would like is a slightly larger, or slightly more centered silhouette of my motions on screen.

I need to try out more songs. just Dance is a great first choice since it's so well known but there's a lot of stuff on the track listing that I'm not familiar with. I did try out Days Go By since I really like that song but, damn, the moves there are tough. those halting, robotic moves require a bit more precision than i can muster on the fly with no practice.

still, it's lots of fun.

Will go get a Kinect for this game and this game alone.

How applicable are these dance moves to real life situations? Trying to shed my awkward turtle dance moves.

Yes.

I coudn't stop doing Poison and my friend loved dirty vegas or whatever that band's called. This game is lights out

My musical tastes are so far gone from the Dance Central track list, you'd think I'd never come within 6-8 ft. of the game. Yet, the songs are infectious and fit perfectly within the confines of the game. Even as a music snob, I shaked my booty to Dance Central for 3 hours straight. Regardless of whether or not one likes Lady Gaga or Lipps, Inc., the game is a blast!

So, yeah, I agree with Opus. :D

I think so. They're all real dance moves, so get out there and cut a rug!

Both so far.

:/

24 hours after my longest DC session:
back is sore
feet are nigh-blistery (hardwood floors, really need to put something down when I play)
arm muscles feel BALLINNNN

It definitely is a kind of fitness game.

:lol
