Shave his face, put him in a wheelchair, give him a balloon to hold and let him work the mic as Daniel "Maybe?" Bryan, a constantly concussed bumbling dolt.

The show most go on. There's money to be made.

The guy can't even make it a full year any more and people wanted this guy to carry the company cause of some YES chants?

Bryan's probably just having problems with strength in his arm again. He's lucky that he is a small guy and his moveset is based around kicks and submissions or he would not have been able to work while he is injured.

Goddamn, that's brutal. Dream... What do you make of this?

It's probably best now if he retires. He'll forever be that guy who exploded in popularity and then had to quit at his peak instead of hanging around for decades too long and being a sad old man like most wrestlers.

Well he did have an embarrassing month after his peak...

Damn. Hopefully he'll be ok. His interview on Jericho's podcast was pretty interesting and he goes fairly in depth with his original injury.

All of this reminds me of the best tweet ever.

"Goodnight HULKAMANIACS and jabronie marks without a life that don't know it a work when you work a work and work yourself into a shoot, marks"

Everyone is working themselves into a shoot

It says his career is likely finished. Which makes it seem like there's official word that he's going to retire.

Sounds like you over read it. It said his career "may" be in jeopardy which means someone is guessing based on the context of what happened. So nothing wrong with the title.

The Daniel Bryan backlash is so baffling to me, I honestly believe that if he didn't have his setbacks last year and if he could have gotten the support of the company that he could have been as biggest thing since Rock/Austin. The way the "yes" chant hit the mainstream was insane.

not even close

The 'yes' chant hit the mainstream because it's easy to chant, not the mainstream popularity of beard boy.

But, also, no. The actual biggest mainstream opportunity was if the WWE title would've been around the waist of the star of the biggest movie of the year, but Internet geeks got in the way of that.

I think it's right that if this leads to his retirement, that he's brought out into the middle of the ring, and Batista decimates him to write him off forever. This way you build up Big Dave Daddy Brotista for a third Royal Rumble win to face off against Barack Lesnar in the main event of Wrestlemania 32.

What's been bigger

The guy hasn't drawn a dime and got over because of a catchy chant (which I wouldnt be surprised were made up by the writers). His in ring work is good at best and he isn't exactly the best actor the company has.

He doesn't have the look or promo skills to carry the company title (not that many who have held it deserved it either) and was purely given the title out of pity and backlash of internet marks. I can clearly see why he wasn't chosen to be 'the guy' by the higher ups.

Nowhere even close to the mainstream popularity of guys like Cena or even Punk. Hell if anything, Total Divas put him on the map as the Bellas are more popular to the casual eye. There hasn't been anyone able to carry the company since Rock/Austin and Cena being the only one who even came close based purely on his work ethic.

and have we forgotten about Brock fucking Lesnar?

He was chosen to carry the company in one of the most crucial time in its history. It was more than just a chant.

I wouldn't say that. He was a stopgap. Hindsight is 20/20, but he just got them by. It was a great Wrestlemania. But not the start of a legacy.

He wasn't chosen for anything. He was gifted the title because of some annoying smarks and maybe even for WWE to get back at Punk. Not to mention he totally blew the opportunity by injuring himself not even a month after winning the title and putting the company in a bad place.

Is he still Intercontinental Champion?

If he goes, there will be even less of a reason for me to watch this garbage product. When they inevitably fudge up Rollin's run, continue to push Reign Drip, spotlight You Can't Cena, and aimlessly book Ambrose, Wyatt, Stardust and Ziggler into irrelevancy, then there will be nothing to miss besides the feeling of annoyance from corporate wrestling mediocrity.

If you think Vince McMahon of all people listened to a few smarks to book his one of his 5 most important shows in history, well I don't know what to say.

I'm not a Bryan mark by any means but thats flat out ridiculous.

Oooh, you're so edgy by calling it "corporate wrestling." Dude, do you totally have tattoos or a rad ear piercing? 'Cause that's be awesome!

I don't think he's a stop gap if he doesn't get injured. Hard to say of course.

If he doesn't get injured, he's the roadkill for Lesnar instead of Cena. And all of the sudden, that match is less loved for some odd reason.

bro when you are this over then its not just the smarks

It's easy to get idiot wrestling fans to chant stuff. He never moved ratings, he never drew on house shows, and he never drew on PPV before the Network launched. He was basically Hacksaw Jim Duggan with better workrate.

I think Bryan sucks just as much as VoxPop thinks, but he legit was about to really break through. The Orton feud and the Wyatt family thing were weird setbacks in a time when the crowd was dying for Bryan to ascend. It came to a peak at the Rumble when the crowd shit all over it when he wasn't in it. He was absolutely The Man then, and it was bizarre how no one at the top in WWE saw it until it was way late. It was the period in time that really showed me how out of touch management in any company can get from their product's fanbase.

I think it's cool we let kids under 13 post here.

Not as edgy as you, Mr. I attempt to downplay the most over guy on the roster at every opportunity Guy. You show those internet fans who's boss! Yo go!

So you're telling me if Hornswoggle had the YES chants and was gonna jump off a cage onto a heel, no one would chant like that?
Not sure how to answer that but he's still by far the most over guy on a week to week basis. That's after being off tv forever and getting put in multi mam matches and shit feuds.

Did you not follow the XBOX One? :-P

The mainstream fans only fell for him because of the YES chants and you know it. He's not delivering any entertaining promos or having some legendary matches either. Once the YES chants die down, so will his career.

Kinda reminds me of how everyone wanted Matt Hardy to be somewhat over when Lita fucked Edge. Then nobody really gave a shit after. But he's not as terrible as Matt Hardy I guess.

All you revisionist history people make me sick. If you are so 100% certain he wasn't over and wasn't a draw, then prove it.

Well, on the bright side, he did manage to get Vince McMahon to do an oil pulling session before Raw once. I still bet it didn't go well.

I am in fact telling you that.

It's also worth noting that their other option was Batista, who was not that over, was past his prime, was never that popular in his prime to begin with, who already had a big wrestlemania moment, and who wasn't going to be with the company for the long term. It would have been a disaster.

I was at WM 30 and I can tell you that at the event and at that entire weekend leading up to the show every single person was there to see Daniel Bryan win the title. Nobody gave a fuck about any other card on the match, even the Undertaker one (until he lost). 75k people out of 75k were there for exactly one reason. I've been to quite a few wrestling shows and I've never seen anything like it.
