My only problem with this setup is the Luke Cage casting. For me, the dude can't emote and lacks even a shred of charisma. I really won't be able to sit through his series.

You guys are right they need Jessica's insufferable ass around so that her stupidity can help pad the season out by 3-4 episodes.

Also please more poorly edited action scenes where she laughably throws people across the room and runs like Steven Segal.

Assuming the Defenders will be directed by the same director, written by the same writers, edited by the same editors, filmed by the same crew and director photography, and have the same fight choreographer.

When are we gonna get some superhero shows where they don't do much superheroing and more witty hijinks and slacking off :V

Aw, I'm just having fun with GIFs.
oh I see lol. we all like doing that don't we

give him a chance, yo. maybe it was the show's fault, not his.

dude is handsome, looks exactly like the character, and is probably a good actor in his own right.

While I enjoyed my time with JJ they are really going to have to fix some of it's shortcomings. Season 1 was probably about 3 episodes too long and I really had no idea the extent of her powers. Also the actor who plays Luke Cage has the look, but I don't know if he can carry an entire series.

JJ was...ugh. I dunno. They did so much right that I liked, but so so so much wrong that really made the show a chore in parts. It was really elevated by David Tennant. Without him, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it at all.

Havent finished Season 2 of DD, but JJ is a considerably better show. Honestly the characters in JJ are far, far better than DD's characters with the exception of Punisher. DD is full of comic book cheese and acting ranging from hammy to bad.

Hey hey hey let's all calm down. Being wrong is not good for your heart.

DD1 >> Purple Man scenes >> DD2 >> JJ without Purple Man

Couldn't disagree more. He's probably the most perfect casting they've done on the TV side of things, next to Fisk as Kingpin. Can't wait for Cage.

Sitting through Jessica Jones was a complete slog. It definitely had its moments, and I quite liked the villain, but the pacing was really off, and the fight scenes were terrible. Big step down from Daredevil's first season.

Hoping for some great action scenes in The Defenders at the very least.

Ah yes, better characters like "I should
let this sociopath out of his cage to get divorce papers signed, surely that won't go awry
" and "we need kilgrave to
confess so we can save hope, who cares if he kills other people
in the meantime."

You did not just call D'Onofrio's acting hammy, right? I mean that can't be a serious opinion.

So my question is, what big bad is big enough that it requires all of hell's kitchen's heroes to band together?

Whoever he is, he's going to be plenty sorry he ever messed with the Defenders once Jessica Jones locks him in a room in 10 inches deep in water and points a video camera at him.

I'm trying to think what characters there are in JJ. The incest twins? The lawyer with the pointless affair subplot? bootleg chris evans? everyone else who just seems to exist to have an argument with Jessica?

The character wasn't the problem. It was the writing. The back and forth on the decisions the characters made all at the cost of people dying. The writing made the characters very unlikeable.
well first of all i wasn't the one in the thread complaining about JJ, I was just wanna keep things cool among us.

Second of all, yes I agree...I really did not like how they handled a lot of the characters arcs - even the side characters. I actually liked the side characters in JJ, there were more than in DD, but their arcs were handled and some written so poorly. So disappointing.

Third of all...PLEASE Marvel don't stagger the Defenders release and make JJ season 2 come AFTER it.

The fight scenes are fine. Jessica and Luke are super strong and just have to punch stuff. They aren't trained ninjas like Elektra and Matt.

Except they played fast and loose with Jessica's abilities or seemingly lack thereof at random, opportune moments. Sometimes, she's strong as fuck, knocking dudes around with minimal effort; other times, she can barely wrestle a knife
away from Kilgrave's dad, a 60/70-year-old
. She was only ever as strong as the writers needed her to be to make a scene work. The
first Kilgrave escape
comes to mind, too.

I loved the show, but that was super distracting.

I swear GAF is the only website on the internet that doesn't like Jessica Jones. Y'all a bunch of curmudgeons.

I wouldn't say it's rare, the pushback is mainly because it's a Marvel property that isn't targeted towards the young male demographic. I've seen plenty of hate for it on social media and places like reddit, even if the critical response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Nah, it's going to be Claire.

spoilers for season 2 of DD

I thought it was pretty ridiculous how Claire didn't tell Matt shit about Killgrave or Jessica. She gives a passing mention about Luke Cage, whom she didn't even see in action but calls "stronger" to Foggy...

That scene where Claire tells Matt that Hell's Kitchen isn't his city anymore, and that he's in over his head, she could've easily reinforced her point by telling him that a few months ago she was helping someone with superhuman strength, against a man with mind control roaming around Hell's Kitchen whom he never even noticed. He didn't even notice, and he was wreaking havoc in his city...And it's a fight Daredvil definitely wouldn't have won, either. Why didn't Claire fucking tell him?

And it's not just about Claire, other than the issues I had with that particular episode of JJ where Mahoney shows up, after 12 hours his powers over the possessed are supposed to wear off. So he should be aware of the fact that he was being mind controlled...why the fuck didn't he say something about that to Daredevil the numerous times the two of them met?

You know what, this post says it better than I can so I'm just going to quote it. The show could have been special and died at the hands of completely contrived writing and a runtime 3-4 hours longer than it should have been.

I apologize in advance for the language and tone of the following post. I won't read any of the posts before or after this one until I finish the show. Which is hopefully fucking soon jesus christ.

Just have to get this out of my system because I just watched one of the last episodes (I fucking hope), where
Hope got released from jail and Killgrave took her to the restaurant to be exchanged with his dad.

THIS IS THE DUMBEST FUCKING SHOW EVER.

I'm really livid right now at how this show is turning out. It had so much potential.

EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. CHARACTER in this show is fucking dumb. Like they're all fucking idiots. All of them. There's not a single redeemable character that's remotely smart or takes the correct action. Jessica herself is stupid as FUCK. UGGGH.

The only character that had a sliver of promise and had the good judgement to
try and kill Killgrave before he inflicts any more damage on the world -- Simpson -- is now some weird secret agent on drugs psycho who just killed an innocent cop.
Whatttt theee fuck. UGGGHAGaadjkafhk.

ALSO, NOTE TO JESSICA: HE MAGICALLY CAN'T CONTROL YOU ANYMORE. SINCE APPARENTLY EPISODE ONE. Which, again, means all of this was pointless.
And yet SOMEHOW you continue to fail, harder than ever. Why?

HERE'S ANOTHER HINT, DUMBASS: KILL KILLGRAVE. WTF. FUCK YOUR EVIDENCE. How many people have to die before you stop trying to save Hope? By my count, at least 7 so far. How fucking dumb are you? Extremely, apparently.

OH, YOU FINALLY GOT VIDEO EVIDENCE OF HIM AFTER 10 EPISODES? How about you fucking secure that footage. Like TAKE the camera with you and put it somewhere safe? Nah, let's just leave it here unattended. Oh now psycho cop burned everything down. Great payoff for 3 episodes of nothing. Don't get me started on Trish. Or Malcolm.

Or the stupid ass
lawyer. HEY, this mind controlling psycho made my client murder both her parents and raped my friend and murdered a bunch of other people. On the other hand, he can make my ex sign my divorce papers. K I'm gonna take a chance on you. Don't let me down!!!!

Basically, they spend a couple of episodes building up towards something and taking action, and then every action they take is immediately negated or rendered useless when they inevitably fail their goal because every character participating is fucking stupid. Even when they ACTUALLY succeed, they fail.
This is the only show I've seen that's been able to pull off this fucking amazing feat.

How atrocious is the writing in this show. Good god. I'm praying to every deity that the next episode is the last. Please tell me they haven't renewed this show.

How is it not targeted at a young male demographic? Because a woman is the lead? It seems targeted as the exact same demo as Daredevil. People criticize the show because it has a lot of dumb shit in it. Maybe that dumb shit doesn't bother you as much as others, but It has nothing to do with demographics. Let's not go down that road.

Well the entire show is about how a woman deals with the past trauma of rape, and basically learns to empower herself once again. Not your typical male superhero story.

They killed the only nurse on their medicaid plan. Now, a blind lawyer, a murdering detective, a bartender, and an asian with blue eyes will unite to form...THE DEFENDERS!

Na, they should extend the team to also include the gladiator and hellcat. They didn't have their own shows but they are supporting characters and superheroes in their own rights. Just like how Hawkeye/Black Widow didn't have their own shows but we're supporting characters who still ended up on the Avengers team
