Well I'm playing in 1080p, no AA or AO on a 770 and my frames dive to 36fps looking in certain directions in Demon Ruins (where I was at when I made my post). I haven't played Blighttown yet since I'm way past that area.

I know this is a hack and I don't expect it to be perfect, I was just curious if there's something I can do. At the very least I know I can never go back to 30fps for this game, and I used to cry tears of joy that it was a locked to 30 in the first place!

Demon Ruins is one of the most intensive areas for some reason, I have the same issue. Chalk it down to bad optimisation I think.

Odd, I guess CPU does have something to do with it then. I'm using a 4.8ghz 3930k. I don't get any drops in Demon Ruins.

UGH! So much for replaying this, it just refuses to work.

I can launch the new Steam version fine by itself but as soon as I add DSfix it stops working. I start the game and literally nothing happens. Steam does its first time setup thing every single time, for some reason, but that's about it. This was my third attempt to do a clean install of the game and DSFix and it still won't work. At this point, I'm really tempted to just give up. :(

And before anyone asks, yes, I am on the newest version of DSfix. I've also tried with the FPS unlock both on and off.

Thanks for the replies. And yeah a 4.8ghz OC will bruteforce anything lol. As I said I'm on a stock 4770k. I had it overclocked to 4.3 but reverted back since I didn't really need the extra juice. Not sure I want to do it just for a few spotty areas in this game but at least I know its a CPU thing and not GPU.

Is the mousefix working with the new dsfix. I got it to run yesterday with the old dsfix but lost mouse control except for clicking on menu. Yes I am playing this (or was) with mouse and keyboard.

This. I don't know how it's possible for some people to claim that it works absolutely fine, and the for some people (like me among others) it just plain doesn't work. It's like the game doesn't see DSfix at all. Well, hopefully someone will look into this soon, no way to play the game now.

Just throwing this out there, but maybe try loading the vanilla version and get your settings right, making sure to disable AA in the options. Start a game to where you can control your character, save and quit, then insert dsfix and try loading again?

Yes!!!

EDIT: Do we have to opt out of the beta to use this?

I assume it would be best to opt out of the beta when using this.

Having so much fun with this and I don't even know what i'm pressing, accidentally unlocked a steam achievement and sped up the game fiddling around with it.

Err, that's not true. On a 680 I get 0 frame drops even when downsampling from 1620p. I don't use any AA or AO though. Going to 4k gives me the drops you're talking about at fog gates and at the base of Blighttown. If you have a more modern card I doubt you'd get drops anywhere even at 4k.

Using a 670 and a 3570k@4.4GHz and I still get drops at 1080p.

Finally beat the damn Gaping Dragon. I hear it's supposed to be an easy one, but I think my stubbornness about removing some armor to move faster made it harder, as well as having a hard time even striking him with a longsword. Didn't die to the Capra Demon, but this big sewer dragon took me 4 times dying/retreating. OK, I'm happy now.

The crowds reaction always kills me everytime I see this.

I don't think Dark Souls 2 is bad, but it certainly isn't great. I think the downgraded graphics made it too "sterile" to where the art style got lost in translation.

Where at specifiically? I'll double check when I get there.

The usual spots, region separating fog gates, leading tunnel to Demon Ruins, looking back at the shantytown part of Blighttown form the swamp.

However that is all in the old GFWL version, not sure if the new one + new DSfix changed anything since all I did was loading up and making sure my saves transferred.

Yeah, I made sure vanilla worked before adding dsfix. Also that in-game AA was disabled. I haven't tried going as far as making a character the last time but I did before and it didn't make a difference. Guess I could give it another shot but I doubt it'll change anything. The game refuses to even start when dsfix is in the folder.

Based Durante.

Everything is working perfectly except HUD mods strangely enough - enabling them seems to have no effect.

Any ideas? Nearly destroyed my plasma in the past with DS/DeS HUD burn in, would rather not repeat it.

Guys, when the grass in the opening area is all fucked up, kinda dark and blurry, which setting did I set wrong in DSFIX? Something with the DOF table? Playing at 4k.

It's been like, 24 hours, did they remove the stupid region lock yet? Or did everyone randomly settle on Finland? :Lol because that works too, since I'm so close to Finland anyway it's not like my downloads will suffer.

I'm fucking pissed at From though, fixing this region bs is literally just opening a menu and clicking on a "No" button afaik. God dammit! D:

Started playing yesterday... put about ten hours into a character and got to Blight Town.

I know that's not even to the second bell, but on my first play though I gave up at the Capra Demon. Yet I was still able to make it to the Tomb of Giants; lol

I'm in the exact same boat as you :(!

I'm on Windows 8.1 with compatibility mode for W7, I can get Vanilla DS to work, AA off and stuff, but as soon as I install DSfix It just won't launch, with FPS unlock on and off, what a bummer :(

I can confirm that it's not a Windows 8.1 issue as it works without a hitch for me, FPS unlocker on even. No comptability modes set.

Edit: Did you guys add the new Dark Souls .exe to the exceptions list in Data Execution Prevention? That solved the crash issue for many.

Bizarre. I'm also on 8.1 and DSFix works flawlessly. I was even able to opt out of the beta, re-download a patch, re-install GFWL to get my saves and achievements, then go back into the beta/2.0 with no issues.

Wait what!?, I just unchecked compatibility mode for Windows 7 and it worked, no clue why, thanks!

Haven't done that but will do, thanks for the tip

Nice, come to think of it did you set the compatibility mode in order to get GFWL working at some point? I had to enable W7 mode in order to re-install GFWL on 8.1 just to do the save/achievement transfer. Others having problems should double check their compatibility settings.

it was deleted

Damn. Good thing I was able to snag it, then...

This shit works online, I'm not sure if I want to be responsible for having a bunch of cheaters using this and harassing people. The original link was removed by the mods over at reddit for that reason. Not saying anyone here would do that though.

If I'm installing Dark Souls and is starting on a whole new save (never played it before), do I just install it and play it? Or should I still install the DSFix for something?

I had to enable W8 compatibility to get it working.

DSFix actually fixes this shitshod port so definitely install it.

This shit works online

Goddamnit. I didn't try it yet and I wasn't really planning to. Although if I'm invaded by Solaire I won't be that mad.

Ugh, I'm really bad at mods. I have never gotten anything to really work, besides one mod for Rainbow Six 3.

Does DSFix even improve anything for the Steamworks edition?

Do I just follow this?

Yeah, its braindead easy.

How do I use it?
1) Delete previous version of the mod if you have any
2) Place the contents of the .zip into the game's binary directory. (The place where DARKSOULS.exe is)
(this may be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA)
3) Adjust the settings in DSfix.ini as desired
4) Adjust the keybindings in DSfixKeys.ini as desired
IMPORTANT: turn OFF the in-game AA option, otherwise you *will* get graphical issues
See DSfixKeys.ini for a list of keybindable actions, including screenshots.

It's nice to be able to go back to Dark Souls after the sort of boring and disappointing Dark Souls 2.

Just walking into Firelink Shrine feels so good.
