Dark Souls II "Curse" Trailer

Spiders eh? I guess I'll wait for the mod that lets you skip that section.

I am really not a fan of spider, let alone giant spiders. I avoid games with them or mod them out (Skyrim Spider->Bear mod FTW) But if there is one game where I am willing to face them, it is Dark Souls II.

something looks off with the graphics. Looks like ps2 graphics at times. Art direction looks weaker than DaS. They are showing too much maybe?

The video title does say X360/PS3 so that's probably why it looks bad. From wants a constant 30fps and that means making concessions.

I don't see anything wrong with the art direction. IMO it (the art direction) looks better than DS1.

This will likely be the last big game I buy for the last generation. I'll probably be looking at finally making the next-gen jump shortly after it releases.

some of those monster designs gave me a bit of a demon's souls vibe
dark souls leaned a bit more towards straight up fantasy

I didn't play demon's souls, so what was the difference? Dark souls was kinda stock fantasy I guess, lots of dragons, skeletons, a hydra, knights, lots of minotaur like things etc.

well, I don't agree. I think it lacks some finesse. I'm not saying the final game will look bad, but going by this trailer and the screens I've seen so far I think it looks quite a bit worse than DaS, both in terms of aesthetics and execution. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Ok.... I absolutely hated the camera positioning in this trailer. It really didn't make any sense to me. Other than that, the graphics look on par with the other 2 games. I'm not sure why anyone would expect any different.

The CGI parts of the trailer are incredible, just like the reveal trailer.

This franchise deserves a full-length CGI movie or something, it would be amazing.

Transcription of the dialogue:

"Perhaps you've seen it, maybe in a dream...A murky forgotten land. A place where souls may mend your ailing mind.
Long ago in a land far to the north...A great king built a great kingdom, i believe they called it...Drangleic."

"The mad will never be forgiven...Foolish human."

"We Undead will never die...You'll go Hollow instead, become one of them."

"We need the Abyss."

"Your wings will burn in anguish, time after time. For that is your fate...The fate of the cursed."

It's still rated PEGI 16 in europe just like the previous Souls games.

God damn, I can't stop watching this trailer over and over again.

Okay, that looks good.

I haven't played Dark Souls, is it required to play it first before II ?

Purely from a lore/story standpoint not necessary. There could be some related things in the sequel which people with enough background knowledge would immediately recognise. Don't expect some straight continuity in the story though.
But if you want to get familiar with the combat mechanics I wouldn't say no.

Apart from that I would recommend Dark Souls to everyone who likes challenging RPGs and dark fantasy settings. This game is the epitome of this generation's dark fantasy RPGs in my humble opinion. The game makes you addictive as soon as it clicks with you and you only sink into the world and atmosphere.

I still highly recommend playing the first game. It's an exceptional and awesome game.

With all the "bad graphics" talk... the thing the new style is missing for me is the "shinnyness/reflectiveness" of the armour. The metal armour sets look drab compared to DS1. Although in the trailer it was mostly dark areas where no actual sunlight may have been reflecting.. We will see. Day one either way.

Very true.

The armor in Dark souls looks so good due to the good specular values and the environ mapping on them (especially evident in firelink shrine).

Let's hope we see some of that in DS2
