Dark Souls II - Graphics Comparison - PC Preview

It's clear that big companies lying to you does not bother you and that's fine. But it does bother others, myself included.

And it is perfectly fair to complain that the game doesn't look like the preview videos prior to todays media. This is, after all, a thread to discuss the preview footage and screens. It's perfectly natural to compare a new preview to an old.

No, you are wrong. Big companies lying ot me about my water supply or the realities of climate change or about defects in seat belts or something else that could harm people, that shit bothers the hell out of me.

Big companies presenting images of their product that doesn't resemble the final version doesn't because I don't depend on marketing to judge the merits of a product nor do I expect marketing to tell me the truth about a product.

At this point, posts like this say more about the poster rather than the game. You have a score of evidence that points to the game looking great with enhanced textures, framerate, resolution and effects. So, what exactly would 'making it pretty' entail?

Not really. You could be talking to someone who already owns the console version. Maybe it's not worth paying another $60 just for uprezzing/framerate to him. I think judging people for an out of context comment about a game says more about you than them.

Oh my GOD dude.

I actually feel the same as him.
Resolution and Framerate are great, textures are better yes but still as flat as before. The only 'effects' i noticed right away were enhanced metallic shining on Armors, most of the others were present on PS360 too. Overall what was to be expected, but far less that what was hoped for. I too see no reason at this point to put money in double dipping, and spending time again to begin anew. Maybe at a high discount later this year. I'm still hoping for a definitive version on PS4/Xbone though.

Okay, NOW it loops if you right click it and enable looping. Uncancel your preorders.

Good to know the PC port isn't complete shit. Also, dem grafiks arguments lol. Its fromsoftware. Cmon people.

I have the digital version so I don't think the load times were as dire for me as some others, but yes that'll be a nice improvement, too.

The framerate though is where it's really at. It's often a disaster on PS3, and playing Dark Souls 1 @ 60 FPS with Durante's fix was glorious.

Wait, there is a texture mod for Dark Souls?

It has a lot of texture mods. I don't know of any all-encompassing projects to revise the textures of the entire game, but you can get them to change the UI, improve some low-res world textures, decrease the lava glow in Lost Izalith and Demon Ruins, and make certain weapons and armor look different.

Lava glow mod was practically necessary. What a silly, weird design decision.

I can't wait to to download DS2Fix and a bunch of mods so that I'll get the DS2 we should have had in the first place. What was the delay even for if the PC version is just gonna have slightly smoother textures?

Sure was. Made me put in another 200 hours on the PC version after 400 on the consoles.

Marketing decision to push console version, where you can milk a bigger audience.

I'm trying to stay away from the footage so,

Is there any tearing? DSFix with 60fps had pretty horrific tearing(that I dealt with). Having 60fps, tear-free would be really lovely.

I had tearing too, but once I set up vsync in the nvidia control panel for Dark Souls, I never saw it again.

Can someone do a WIF of the GB footage where the dynamic lighting is shown? When they light the first sconce, around the 15 minute mark i think? It showed that the dynamic lighting is still in place, but seemed to be only with that sconce oddly enough

edit @ 16:50 in the GB vid

Uh, I don't think we should be expecting anything. I think Durante is mostly satisfied with this version and might not see any real reason to invest the time. I mean it would be nice, but it shouldn't be expected.

I think we should just try to be happy with what's given.

I'll grab it in a steam sale probably, but for now i'll stick to PS3 version.

"Remembers how the PS3 version is already plagued with people that downloaded the megamule savegame"...

Or not....

I personally think they made a big mistake. They should have gone all out on the pc version, to get PS4 and Xbone owners excited about the inevitable upgraded port.

Their biggest mistake was to target last-gen consoles. That's partially what brought the quality of the game a lot of steps down from their original concept/demo. And I say "partially" because another part of the problem had more to do with a complete lack of organization near the later stages of development. The game feels like a Frankenstein's creature put together in less than 6 months. Disjointed and disconnected in many ways.
