Wouldn't say blow out of the water, but it is definitely feeling like it was the right direction for the series to go in. Much more punishing in a lot of ways. Still, don't like the Soul Memory coop cap. Seems odd.

Oh, and I'm not sure if anyone already posted this, but the soul memory cap seems to be based on a percentage, based on this: http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Summon+Range+Calculator
 
HELP with late game covenant.

The pilgrims of the dark, I am in the dark chasm. I lit the fire thing, killed everyone. Now what, how do I get out?

I'd post mine but I'm looking pretty uninspired so far, vengarl set, faaram helm and a claymore haha, I'll pimp my guy out after I'm done with my first playthrough.

Not a glitch.
Doors of Pharros is a rat covenant area. If you're in the covenant the enemies aren't hostile to you.

I seriously considered doing that. I decided it would be inappropriate for a first playthrough.

Also I figured he would annihilate me.

I'm at 6 hours plus with some pausing and I'm not at the first boss lol. Just looking around and remembering how to play the game, whatever.

I'm just after that part where some bird dropped a giant knight down on me, I got two hits on him and saw the puny damage I was doing so got off that platform. Anyway just further on from there you go down a ladder and there is a room with some crossbow traps that has like 3/4 enemies in. Even though there the normal enemies that have be in my way up to now having to deal with that many at once is proving difficult once they all gang up on me. I've levelled up my strength and dexterity a bit as I'm playing the Warrior so I guess at this point it's just a matter of learning the timing and parrying on the enemies? If anyone has some tips it's greatly appreciated!

We are the same. I've been stuck at the same place, same failed encounters, same feels.

Terrified to re-enter that
threesome gangbang,
died further down the way so the
gate has fallen,
and ran away screaming from the
giant knight,
who has subsequently disappeared.

Game is thoroughly kicking my ass. I had completed about 75% of DS1 and went into this feeling pretty confident.

Confidence shattered. Still loving it.

My only gripe so far are the new inventory menus, it seems so much harder to compare gear when equipping or shopping.
 
Weird name change. I can't tell at this point whether it's better or worse than Dark Souls, but at around 30 hours, I'm having a blast playing it.
 
I feel stupid for asking this, but is there a real barebones and to the point list or something of exactly all the different ways you can trigger or do multiplayer in this game? I played though almost all of the last game offline forcibly since I was usually in a Party Chat (360), so I'm not coming in with really any of that knowledge. I know it's probably not really that complicated, but looking around online it seems like one of those things that everyone assumes everyone else knows already >_>

Also still curious if anyone's running a pure melee dex build and how that's working out. I don't like the Scimitar and haven't found any Katanas, getting to the point now where I need to either start pumping up Str or Dex for damage output.

I want to emphasize that if I came across harsh on the game, it's because I'm comparing it specifically to Demon's and Dark Souls 1, which together make up my favorite games of the past generation (and are high up there on my all-time list). I'd still much rather be playing Dark Souls 2 than many other games - and have been in fact - and there are few types of games these days I'm willing to buy at $60 on day one.

I don't regret the purchase at all and I still intend to try out other playthroughs in the future. The core combat mechanics are still like no other, and despite my misgivings about the encounter and world design relative to the past games, it's still an overall experience one would be hard-pressed to find outside of the series.
 
I have died quite a few stupid deaths in
No Man's Wharf
. I think I'm done for today...and don't know if I have enough to continue this game. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I definitely preferred DS1.
 
Who cares which game is better? I think I still prefer the first game but that doesn't mean this game isn't amazing. DaS had its problems as well, mainly most of the areas in the second half of the game.
 
Just got the Moonlight Greatsword (I'm not spoiler tagging that since it's in all of From's games).

It kicks ass. I went from a pure casting sorcerer to more of a battlemage build, and I'm wrecking things.

People are simple. Shit like this really does effect public perception. I don't mind it, it's just a joke, but now passers-by will see it and think "game must have sucked, glad I didn't buy".
 
I don't know, personally I've enjoyed this game far more than the first one. While most bosses are underwhelming, I enjoy the increased scope and the different areas more than the ones in Dark Souls 1, especially the ones after you get the Lord Vessel in the first game were quite bad.
 
VERY big End game spoilers and maybe a glitch?

I have the ashen mist thing from the ancient dragon.

I have beaten the game, credits rolled.

I can enter the giant dream that the giant lord boss was in.

I can enter the giant dream after the pursuer.

I cannot enter the giant dream at the soldier's rest bonfire?????????

why?
 
Ugh, having problems in Bastille. That place is brutal. And yea, I took out the Scottish guy with the cool green sword. I left him alone for awhile, but after awhile I got tempted.

DS2 is incredible, btw.

Bell Covenant: In the Belfry Luna, near Bastille. Tons of invasions in that area whether you are in the covenant or not.
Rat Covenant: In the Grave of Saints, down the well. Lots of invasions down there if you aren't in the covenant. I can't speak for how easy it is to invade people if you're in the covenant.
Brotherhood of Blood: In the Undead Purgatory, an optional area in Huntsman Copse. Gives you the red soapstone, which allows people to summon your into their world for a duel. Also allows you to use crack red orbs, which I've never had any luck with. Red Soapstones have had tons of success for me.
Dragon Covenant: In the Iron Keep, accessed through the shopkeeper in that area. Similar to red soapstones, you lay your sign down and people summon you for a duel. I've seen a ton of these.
Blue Sentinels: Past the optional boss in Heide's Tower. You get summoned to protect Way of the Blue members from invasions. I don't know much about this one, but people were having a hard time getting summoned in this covenant. There's a dueling area where you fight other members of the Sentinels, which consumes Tokens of Fidelity.

I'm looking forward to getting the MGS, I'm sick of this damn fire sword. I still don't have a 100% physical block shield, I only have enough STR/DEX for the sword. Leather shield has seen me through so far lol.
 
I was initially worried about being able to "fast travel" from the beginning, but I really like how the game is centered around frequently returning to Majula for a bit of respite. I've really taken a liking to this place.

Unfortunately, this decision also seems to have affected how the world is connected. I can't be 100% sure at this point, but it seems like the areas are far less interconnected than in Dark Souls, which is an aspect I really liked. It seems much more like Demon Souls' hub and spoke design except more seamless.

exactly. It serves to create a negativity around the game, that, for all it's misgivings, I don't think it fully deserves.

I saw all the blood stains and just walked away. I also found it hilarious that there were a ton of bloodstains in front of the shopkeeper in majula too. Guy seemed like a mouse, but I guess he can destroy newbs too.
 
If they make a dark souls 3 and it's the same size as this, I'd be most happy if they went with a Nexus/Majula AND four smaller Firelink shrine hubs that actually interconnect. Asking a game this size to seamlessly interconnect seems impossible to me, but that doesn't mean that can't do four quarters that do. Would fit the four lord souls schematic as well.
 
I've always thought demon's souls has some of the better boss design.

When will we ever get a fight like the storm king again? :(
 
So I arrived to the
Scorpioness Najka
boss fight and I have a question.


Outside of the boss battle I saw several signs saying "try tail".
Can I cut her tail, does it give a weapon or something?

Thank you! Still a bit confusing, but makes a bit more sense. I didn't realize that some of the items like the red and blue orbs were covenant-specific.
