Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

I just installed Dark Souls, played it for a few minutes, then installed DSfix. Unfortunately, this happens:

It looks like it's just rendering it at a lower resolution and sticking it in the corner. I didn't change a single setting in the ini. Any idea what might be happening?

Read the read me.

I picked up again the game. Last time I played thd Durante's mod was version 0.6.

Now the question.

I have a 5:4 (1280x1024) monitor and the game is displayed letterboxed, with the two black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, resulting in an effective game resolution of 1280x720.
Is there a way, with the new version of the mod, to disable the letterbox and make the game really* render at fullscreen?

*I mean no stretching.

Thanks

No, not with DSFix alone.

Finally got this running at a decent framerate. Is there any way to make the game default to offline mode? It's irritating to get the prompt telling me the framerate is insufficient for online play.

Otherwise, fun fun game. It's grueling as hell, but every time I squeeze my way out of a difficult fight after luring those black knights or those headless stone golems, it makes me appreciate obtaining one of their rare drops all the more. Especially since it makes my 3-hit-kill runs of low-level zombies to one-hit kills that allow me to sweep a level that took me almost an hour to mere minutes.

I also like how even though it feels like you're cheating by spamming arrows at a much higher level mini boss that's stuck in a corner somewhere, you know you're still going to get your ass royally kicked later on anyway.

Do we have any specific settings recommended for example a GTX 670 1920x1080 monitor? I've just been trying to mess with the internal rendering resolution but having no luck at all :|

No luck as in, can't find the ini file that dictates internal rendering or can't get the game to run decently?

My machine can barely run the game, so I had to change the internal to the same res as what my monitor is capable at max. Was the only way to get it running at near 30fps with some additional texture mods.

Which version do you guys recommend using? I'm going to reinstall/replay the game and I'm wondering if there's any reason not to go DS fix 1.9?

I seem to have figured it out - I was curious what other people had set for their specific PC specs though!

Scaling down the HUD makes my soul count disappear. Any way to fix this?

Ah, nevermind, it was due to the opacity setting.
on this note, all the HUD meters (like for poisoning and boss health bars) display incorrectly for me. they're shrunken and sometimes duplicated. anyway to fix this?

Read the readme.

Implementing all the out-of-the-ordinary meters requires significant effort that no one is willing to put in, so you have no option but to revert to the standard UI for them to display correctly. This is why there is a hotkey to do so.

Would be nice, I'm trying 3840x2160 with a 810 dof pyramid but the game drops to 15 fps in many places... don't know if it's my drivers or anything but I recall those drops being much less frequent last time I played.

edit : did some tweaking, 540 dof, ssao scale 2 instead of 1, 95% of the dips gone. Good shit.

ok so I'm getting confused by the two different settings zones.

My monitor is native 1920x1200. So I set the DSFix ini to that. Then, in the in-game settings I turned off AA as instructioned, and set display resolution to 1920x1200 but then the game gets letterboxed. In what world does that make sense? If I set the resolution to 1920x1080 it fills the screen but looks kinda whack.

any advice/explanation?

Yeah, at such a high downsampling resolution I'd suggest using the SSAO scale feature. Any GPU will suffer trying to do full-res SSAO with that resolution (on top of everything else).

The game doesn't support aspect ratios other than 16:9, and I couldn't fix that so far.

Any luck on 120hz support yet durante? :D

Too bad my computer keeps killing video cards. Ill only have 1 gtx 470 in the future now

So I toggled on 60 fps mode on a whim, not thinking it would perform that well on my machine since I have problems with particle effects from fog gates, fire, etc, taking me down to 15 fps. The centipede demon fight is pretty unfun because of this, and PVP is out of the question in a lot of areas because of all the fog gates.

It runs better with the fps unlocked, and things that would bring me down to 15 fps before now only bring me down to 30.

Yeah I think it's just how the game's vsync works, as in it drops straight to 15 from 30 and to 30 from 60. Two frame v-sync?

I'm getting WILD screen tearing with framerate unlocked. anyone else see this? breaks my heart, because it looks great at 60hz when the screen doesn't tear.

as is, running rock solid 30, internal rendering at double 1920x1200, downsampling to native res and damn if it is doesn't look great and run smooth as butter.

You need to run either in borderless windowed fullscreen mode, see the .ini for that.

Or if you want "real" fullscreen for some reason you can use D3Doverrider to force triple buffering.

Is there any way to change where the hudless screenshots are saved? I'd rather it go into a screenshot folder than just dumped into the Dark Souls Data folder. :\

edit. Loving the hudless screenshot function by the way. Got me some wallpapers. Thanks.

I'm trying to get this working but it doesn't render anything with the fix enabled. I just get a white screen :(

running on windows 8. nvidia card.

Damn, I can't even boot the game after the latest patch with the framerate unlocked. They better not be intentionally trying to disable it.

Hopefully base Durante can fix things soon.

I'll have a look at the patched executable at some point, but I can't promise anything. Did it break anything other than the framerate unlock? The rest of the features should be somewhat resilient.

There's a setting for the path in the .ini
(At least I think there is :P)

When was the new patch released? Coincidentally I installed Dark Souls steam version and DSfix today before going to work (6 hours ago or so). My testing only consisted of running around like a fool in Undead Parish for five minutes, but I'm almost certain that 60 fps worked just fine. The game started without a hitch and was definitely running at more than 30 fps.

First report of a patch was about 3 hours ago. So, yeah, it probably got patched sometime between when you installed it and now.

Can someone send me the pre-patch DATA.exe?

Someone who knows they haven't had their DATA.exe updated, make sure you do not log into Steam. Copy out that file before starting Steam and send it to Durante.

For the love of god.
