Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

Thankfully I seen this before I got home and connected to steam, I will be gutted if we can longer run at 60fps, infact, I would go as far as to say my love affair would be over. :-(

Also, does this update through steam, I know it's games for windows live, but does it auto update?

It auto updates. Try starting Steam in offline, right click Dark Souls and telling Steam not to update it.

You might have to play it in offline mode until there is a fix.

UUUGHH!! Was looking forward to continuing my New Londo trip today. Dammit From!

Will wait for Godante to do his thing, 30fps is unbearable.

Surprised the hell out of me to see the update come up for Dark Souls.
Me too. That's why I didn't even put it on "no auto-update" on Steam. I simply didn't expect them to do anything.

Does anyone have any idea what the patch actually changes? (Outside of messing up the FPS unlock I mean :P)

Oh and btw, thanks for the .exe, got it now!

Are there noticeably more people online or noticeably less from the launch, I put in like 150 hours right after it came out on PC then stopped because no one was around.

Really lame they screwed the 60fps, I was just starting to get used to it... Hopefully it can be fixed. :(

All that probably got patched was the Key to the Seal thing, and not much else.

I immediately noticed a change in sound. In the forest, I could hear wind rustling through the trees for the first time. The whole place was always very quiet for me until now.

Ah, maybe they fixed the downmix to stereo. That would be good, since some people don't have hardware that offers an easy workaround.

Holy shit you're right, they finally fixed the sound! It sounds kinda weird now haha.

FXAA is broken, yo.

That's with FXAA set to 4 in the config.

I think the sound mix has been fixed though. It's a little hard to tell.

The game was fine as it was. Can't believe the incompetence of BAMCO. They should have gotten in touch with you Durante, to discuss ways for your fix to not break. Does anyone in that fucking company read neoGAF?!

At this point even if the developers wanted to there's no way they'd be allowed to. It would pretty much be a public admission of incompetence. Corporate would just want them to go on as if DSFix didn't exist.

Was Dark Souls PC even distributed in Japan, and are there any Japanese sites talking about DSFix if so?

Japan can get it through Steam.

OK, I can say now that it's not an easy (read: a few hours) thing for me to fix the variable framerate unlock for the patched version. I have contacted the original author of the FPS fix and I'll see what he has to say.

It's rare to be thankful for poor developer support but in this case, I'd rather they just left it alone unless they were able to completely eliminate online exploits and unlock the framerate themselves.

Well, for the same reason the FPS fix no longer works they'll probably also have broken at least some cheats temporarily, but those are likely to be easier to fix.

Please tell me that they fixed the online connectivity problems. Please.

If you read up on the Steam forum post detailing how the multiplayer works, you'll find that it's just a really quirky P2P method that grabs a random pool of online players and shares their summon signs, messages, miracle resonance, bloodstains, live bonfire images, etc. Fixing the issues would probably mean changing the way it decides who's no longer onlgine and thus no longer eligible in the pool. There are also problems with peoples' summon signs showing up after they've left the area.

Summoning in DkS is torture.
Luckily they're ditching the P2P thing in DkS2.

The framerate unlock and FXAA apparently (still have to check the latter). If it broke FXAA, it almost certainly also broke SMAA, and it most likely also broke all the AO methods. And the improved DoF. I'll look at all of that tomorrow.

While the p2p nature of the game is definitely a big factor, DkS online on the PC is much like it was on consoles at launch, but since 1.05 on consoles it's actually worked pretty well all things considered. There are a good number of summon signs on consoles and summon attempts work most of the time now whereas on PC you get "Summoning Failed" 9 times out of 10.
