Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

The framerate unlock and FXAA apparently (still have to check the latter). If it broke FXAA, it almost certainly also broke SMAA, and it most likely also broke all the AO methods. And the improved DoF. I'll look at all of that tomorrow.

Setting unlockFPS to 1 seems to be the only thing that makes it crash for me, I have these settings and they're working fine:

aaQuality 4
aaType FXAA

ssaoStrength 1
ssaoType VSSAO

dofOverrideResolution 1080
dofBlurAmount 1

has the patch improved the connectivity for multiplayer at all?

i was sick of seeing so many summon failed messages. the ps3 version seemed to have considerably better connectivity.

(yes, i have an open NAT for Games for Windows Live, etc)

Can you confirm that they are actually working? That is, that FXAA and SSAO are applied?

SMAA On, SSAO On.

SMAA Off, SSAO Off.

SSAO appears to be working, SMAA is not.

*edit*

FXAA On:

Doesn't appear to be working either.

It's very strange that SSAO would be working but AA wouldn't. But! That case should be easier to fix. Thanks for the report/screenshots.

There's no way to unpatch this right?

I can't play at 30fps anymore :/

THIS!!!

I even logged in in offline mode after reading about the patch today and it wouldn't let me select "Do not automatically update this game", as soon as I log in the patch starts downloading immediately... sigh.

Well, I wouldn't worry too much.

Holy shit. Is it me or is the performance WAY better now? 60 fps almost everywhere.
I didn't say anything because I didn't want to change people's perception, but it seems to me like the game is a bit less CPU heavy now. It would make sense, there are significant code changes in the binary.

Everything looks to be working perfectly.

I ran into a small bug, though: when using just a scaled hud, it disappears within a few seconds of loading the game. It goes completely hudless (even the GFWL home button doesn't show). Hitting the shift key brings up the full, big hud.

A small problem and one we can live with compared to earlier, for sure.

I'll fix that tomorrow. Almost certainly related to what I did for fixing the screenshots.

Brilliant work! Everything seems to be running fine. Donated a couple of euros.

BTW guys if you're downsampling make sure to put your display's resolution in the second option of the .ini (and not leaving it at 0 if in doubt like the text suggests) or else it'll crash when starting (or at least did in my case).

edit-
Go get some well deserved rest already man!

I'm gonna be bouncing off the fucking walls if this means I can get a consistent 60 FPS on my rig now :D

Thanks for the update!

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it: anyone change their default directories for My Documents and whatnot to drive D? Because I've noticed backups haven't been working for me and suspect that could be why.

Yeah I'm noticing significantly better performance. Still can't run at 60 fps, which isn't surprising since my rig isn't great, but being at a stable 30 more frequently is nice.

Fog walls still drop me to just under 30 though.

DSfix 2.0

Fixes everything broken in the patch, also other small stuff. Including better support for downsampling as someone here requested. I think. Anyway, it's after 4 am here so if I destroyed everything or messed up the release it will have to wait until tomorrow :P

Holy shit! that was lighting fast! You are the man!

Whenever I think of Dark Souls or talk to friends about it I'll always remember you Durante and what you accomplished with this game. Thank you!

Sweet, was going to start playing, but now my 360 controller doesn't work in game. Yaaaaaaaaay. But thanks for fixing the issues with the graphics Durante, when I figure out this controller crap, it'll be nice to play it looking all pretty and such.

Goddamn... Durante coming through like always.

You are awesome!

Durante, you are the fucking man! Thanks and I'll donate again. :)

Edit: So did they even fix the New Londo key drop for sequence breaking or is it still random?

Well, downsampling works, kinda, but it mostly just makes the game super unstable and very prone to crashes, at least from what I've tested of it.

I can't even believe this. You are already a goddamn legend Durante, and you keep one-upping yourself. Fucking magical.
If there are performance increases I believe it is time for my second playthrough soon.

Just donated. Thanks for all your hard work! Dark Souls is an amazing game, and DSFix improves the experience significantly.

Yeah, the fog gates are entirely GPU bound, they improved the CPU performance.

I've downsampled for 150 hours without crashes. Could your GPU be overheating?

I can honestly say that Dark Souls PC would not make my Top 10 this year. But Dark Souls Durante Edition definitely will.
