Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

i get the blurry intro screens/main menu with these settings ...

when i change them back to their default value of 0, the main menu, etc, goes back to normal.

i'm also using 1080p dof.

i thought you just couldn't use the same DOF as your 'internal rendering resolution'? but it seems to apply to the other one (display width/height).
This could well be the case. Need to fix that in the documentation. Or maybe I'll just give people 1920x1079 DoF when they ask for 1080 with 1080 resolution (and the same at other res combinations of course), that should fix the issue once and for all.

What setting has the most impact on, I guess, particles? I jacked everything way up and was getting 60 but when the asylum demon swings its drops to 30.
This is a case of alpha blending (just like the fog doors and the hydra attack, to name a few). The only thing that really has an impact on this is rendering resolution.

Also works for me when I use 0 for display width/height. I definitely had that set to 1920/1080 in previous versions of DsFix and it was fine. Doesn't matter though

Strange since I don't have a problem with fog doors.

Well just like with bonfires the player is not fully in control during those two actions so the framedrops won't be as jarring as, like durante mentioned, getting hit by a hydra attack or backstabbing someone and having the blood take up a big part of the screen.

Not played DS in a while, fired up the new DSfix and playing at 60fps is interesting. At first it felt like things were too fast but it works well. Even with DS2 on the horizon, I would kill for Next-gen to just run like DSfix does.

So I just got DS and installed the DSFix but I'm still getting constant frame drops on a 2500k/6950 2GB, is it actually possible to get this game running at 30 solid?. Game feels really sluggish compared to Demons souls, almost feels like input delay to me but maybe it's just me.

When I try to downsample all I get is a tiny screen in the upper left corner. Any ideas on how to get it to work?

Goddamn I love the way DS looks now but the fonts are hideous.

I do appreciate being able to minimise the huge ass default UI.

YAY! 100 hours later.

Many thanks for making this 10 times more enjoyable Durante!

I use the link in the OP, direct to Durante's site.

Playing at 30fps, my card barely warms up playing this. Keeping it simple, using just the resolution fix.

Oh lord, the .bmp screens I get using the dsfix screenshot function are no smaller than 120 mb each xD daaamn

Turn off in-game AA in the options.

Also still looking for any suggestions as to why I get small constant frame drops from 30 to 27. It's only for a second but it's very annoying since I've easily got the hardware to handle the game. Is it just something that everyone gets, does anyone run it at a flawless 30?

So just installed the game and applied the fix, and ran into two immediate problems:
The most immediate problem you ran into is not reading the readme :P

I'd suggest simply enabling the framerate unlock. You can still limit it at 30 FPS if you really want to. The default framerate limiting behaviour of the engine is very flaky.

Is there a fix for wired 360 controller not responding? Only thing the game recognizes is the guide button to bring up gfwl. controller works for every other game. Tried reinstalling drivers and reinstalling the game.. and nothing works.

Actually I did, but I somehow missed that sentence! :D Thanks again for the fix, looking a whole lot better now.

Still got some texture seams, but it's not noticable inside the game itself. Going to update my video drivers and see if that helps.

If there are any other controllers installed, the game won't use the 360 controller. Sometimes even a wireless controller that you haven't used in a while can be the problem. So if there's nothing else plugged in and it's still not working, open the start menu and type in "game controllers" + enter (Windows 7) to see if there's any other controllers listed.

Control Panel >> Device Manager >> Human Interface Device >> disable any HID compliant game controllers.

I have a G13 and also disabled the G13 joystick, as I've had issues with that before in other games.

is there a place to submit bugs? i checked durante's blog but didn't see anything.

nothing major, but whenever i'm looking at the sun in anor londo (or anywhere i assume) the minimal HUD changes to the normal HUD. it must be something around how they do they glow/lens flare on the sun, because even if i move the camera to obscure it with my character, it goes back to how it should be. again not a game breaker, just a weird little thing.

I think this one is known, but in general all HUD issues are present because it's an insane amount of work to find and alter HUD behavior.

I still can't use the smaller HUD when I try to downsample. Dammit. It looks like if I change presentHeight and presentWidth to anything but 0 it will not allow me to use the scaled down HUD. How do I downsample then?

Are there any CPU-intensive things I can turn down? I'm only running this game on a 2.4GHz Q6600 though so I'm just asking if there's any hope before simply getting a new computer. Don't wanna risk overclocking on a pre-built Dell.

wtf is going on now? When I alt-tab and come back the game is SUPER dark and I can't see a single thing unless I warp to another bonfire and warp back.

I'm playing on a stock Q6600 and getting 40-60 fps at 1920*1080

Did they change something relevant with the last DSfix?
Because I played the game a bit tonight just to discover that after the patch and the updated fix everything seems to be smoother than before*.

*to be more specific: I'm achieving 60 fps even in some areas where I didn't before these last updates.

Does anyone know how to get the game working on Windows 8? It boots up and just kind of sits there at a black screen.

game is running flawlessly for me on win 8. I just got to the hydra boss. i'm using the fix, sweetfx, and 3D fix. this game looks glorious in 3D! love it!

man is this game brutal - definitely feels like heroic wow. one thing I really hate is trekking back from bonfires to a boss a gazillion times, and losing your bloodstain post-boss fights...so I've been making manual checkpoints pre and post boss fights by quitting before entering boss fights and backing up the save file.

The latest official patch optimizes the game further.

Not sure about the needing to warp and warp back, but the game definitely re-does lighting after you alt-tab. Try playing with a maximized window if you need yo alt-tab a lot I guess?
