Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

So uh, here's a thing that's happening to me with all default settings in dsfix.ini:

Thoughts? Help?

turn off AA in dark souls "pc settings" as instructed in the ReadMe.txt.

Hey Durante any chance you might work on a fix for the crappy multiplayer system?

Just installed this and everything is working well, except for AA. Neither SMAA or FXAA seem to have any effect. I've assigned keys to toggle AA/SMAA but they don't appear to do anything. Any idea where I'm going wrong? This is on a GTX 480.

Have you tried FXAA? When downscaling, the impact of SMAA can be quite subtle.

If you want to maintain 60 FPS, you should probably OC that CPU a bit. Graphically you should be fine at 1080p with bells and whistles, but probably no crazy downsampling.

Yeah, I will, I'll also put it in the next update. I only found out about it recently, but it seems to solve many of the mysterious startup crash issues with unlocked FPS.

Will do, but after I buy a cooler. Thanks for everything, you're great. I'll donate you some €€€ for sure.

Oh, fuck me.

GfWL says that my account is used by someone else (I'm on my brother's pc right now, might that be it?) and Steam (German) says my UK code is invalid when I try to register it to my account. GfWL wasn't installed on this pc before Dark Souls.

What now.

Okay, its borderline spamming now, but I change stuff in DSfix.ini and try to save it, but Winows says access denied?! Same when I want to use the GUI for DSfix.

Latest 1.9 version of DSfix.

I don't know what could be blocking access to those files but I'm almost positive that rebooting your computer will at least temporarily fix the issue.

I'm revisiting this game after playing it to death but I'm having problems figuring out limitations with this mod. Just to get this straight:

Is it still not possible to play this game with the resolution fix, at 60 fps, without screen tearing? I don't want to play windowed mode and was hoping for a vsync option, but no dice yet? I had previously run an older version of DSFix with a separate mod for the FPS fix which was fine, but it would mean I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the newer features of DSFIX 1.5 and up.

also does resizing the HUD still result in unwarranted glitches?

1. Download Rivatuner

2. Start D3D Overrider and check "enable on start-up"

3. Enjoy triple-buffered Vsync in all your games

Are you trying to change it while running the game?

Nope.

The game also blue screened the pc once, hardlocked it twice and kicked me back to menu for having low fps the three times I could actually get control of the char for like three seconds.

Now I'm back at my place with a 7870 to replace my 5850, but since it was only 2d mode o, my brother's pc with the other 7870, it will be same same fucking thing for me, I guess. I just installed it, haven't tried it yet.

Only helpful thing I could find online was to "turn everything in CCC to max". What's everything, damn it. I'll try to get this game to run a few more times on my own pc, if it doesn'T I might just snap the disc in half, seeing how I can't even give it away, thanks to registering with GfWL.

Edit: well, with full screen set to yes ingame, ingame AA off, Morphological Filtering set to max, Tesselation AMD optimized, Catalyst AI set to quality, 16 AF, AA set to adaptive AA with SS, I get 26% activity and my 1000 MHz clock speed when alt-tabbing out of the game. Vanilla DS has a framerate between 30 fps to 22 in the sewer right after you get target lock on explained, dropping to 12 after alt tabbing in and out.

Should I change anything before trying DSfix? Because sub thirty for looking like it does...yuck.

So I enabled proper super sampling and notched the internal resolution up to (forgot what) from 1080p. Holy shit, runs great, looks better than ever, and god damn.

Also made it out of Blight Town, yay! It ran quite well I might add. With all the bells and whistles. This on a HD5870 none the less.

What should I expect form my 7850/Core I5 ?

I am not sure about what options / settings I should get to have the best IQ/FPS compromise :(

You need to right click the .ini and apply the "allow" to all settings in the security tab for your specific user acc. I've had to do it on all the DSFix revisions.

I wanted to get this for 5€, but in the end couldn't say no at 15$ from Amazon.
The DSfix is awesome, but is it normal for the text to be all blurry before starting a game or after exiting one?

NM, changed something in the DSfix.ini and the text is not blurry at all before starting a game now.

It is, there is are a few mods that have high rez text out there! These are a must!

Could this be it?

Might be, but I have no idea what he means by installing a different one. Did he uninstall and reinstall or are there different versions? I haven't used GFWL since Batman Arkham Asylum and that one just installed itself. Don't have GFWL anymore since I upgraded to Windows 8 so I had just installed it.

Edit: Found some fix on Steam forums, trying it now.

Okay this worked for me. Anyone with Windows 8 having problems:

Q. Dark Souls crashes and has a reference to XLive.dll, what do?

First, ensure the Windows Live Sign-In Assistant is started. This should typically set to automatic, but it IS needed to log in to Xbox Live.

You can find it's status in the Services Panel. (For Vista/Win7, search for services.)

Thanks to ikbosh, he provides this suggestion.

1. Remove all previous installations of GFWL.
2. Run gfwlivesetupmin.exe
3. Run GFWL, it will prompt you to update.
4. Close that and GFWL.
5. Run gfwlivesetup.exe
6. Copy Xlive.dll to %windir%\system32\
7. GFWL
8. Run Dark Souls and enjoy!

In some cases, people have reported running the Games For Windows Marketplace in the background can also fix this problem.

Keep in mind that downloading DLLs can be inherently dangerous. Do so at your own risk.

great mod, got this game today from amazon and installed the latest version and is running without problems so far, 1080p and 60 frames, i previously finished the game on ps3 but man with this mod this is something else, seriously

Game crashes to desktop when I try to start a New Game or enter the main menu's "PC Settings". Any obvious fix?

Also wasn't there a GFWL disabler included in this? Can't see anything about it in the ini file. My xbl friends gotta be pretty pissed off by now at my constant log in notifications tonight lol.

Doesn't seem like I am getting any AA in-game, I've tried FXAA and SMAA in the ini file both with different quality settings but no luck.

Any suggestions?

I actually have the same question. I never bothered trying AA as I was satisfied with 1080p and SSAO but enabling it in the ini I don't seem to notice a difference. Should I enable it via NVIDIA control panel instead?

regarding anti-aliasing, there is a compatibility flag for use with nvidia inspector which works perfectly in my experience. because my system can't do downsampling from a decent resolution at 30fps I just use SGSSAA.

hmm. so its not as simple as just enabling it in the ini or nvidia control panel then? (forgive my ignorance on these things btw). is there a particular reason it doesn't work via the ini?

it depends on what kind of AA you're trying to use in the INI file, but I'm not really sure! as for the nvidia control panel, it's usually pretty powerful. sometimes though there are special compatibility settings required to enable anti-aliasing in an engine, and if the details of these aren't included in the drivers you're using the AA just won't work.

that's where nvidia inspector comes in. it's a really powerful and easy to use tool to adjust your driver settings so that you can force incredibly high-quality rendering in games like the stuff people post in the pc screens thread. this guide is the one I always use and recommend for people, just read it carefully and give it a try: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=357956

if you have any problems feel free to pm me and I'll try to help you out.

Just installed the game, and I'm a little confused by some of the options in DSfix 1.9

If I just want to play the game at 1680x1050 res @ 60fps (fullscreen), what should I do? I read that I might get banned from GFWL if I unlock 60fps? What?

Set the resolution to 1680 width by 1050 height

Unlock frame rate and set it to 60.

The frame rate unlock hasn't gotten anyone banned yet, and there are people legitimately hacking who haven't been banned, so you're pretty much in the clear. Not guaranteed, but it hasn't happened to anyone including myself.

Okay, cool. Thanks, man.

I just installed Dark Souls, played it for a few minutes, then installed DSfix. Unfortunately, this happens:

FDF75C990147A9FDC61E276D2CFDB3C9C23C4256

It looks like it's just rendering it at a lower resolution and sticking it in the corner. I didn't change a single setting in the ini. Any idea what might be happening?
