Dark Souls |OT3| This thread moves faster than the Blighttown framerate

Anyone tried both the 360 & PS3 version?

I bought the 360 version after reading about Digital Foundry's comparison, but looking at some head to head videos on Youtube, the PS3 version has a significantly better framerate at the start of the undead asylum, where on the 360 it becomes a slideshow.

Anyone know if the PS3 version edges out the 360 in framerate stability?
Blightown is bad on both versions, but what about the rest?
Is New Londo bad on teh PS3 as it is on the 360?

What's wrong with New Londo? (Can't say I've noticed anything myself on PS3.)

--

Random side notes from earlier session:
(1) Ascending a pyro flame to pyro flame (strong) is indeed good for a red titanite slab.
(2) Stray Demon is still a bitch for bleed weapons. My lightning spear +5 has been retired for my lightning iaito +3.
(3) Any recommendations on what weapon to push to +15? I would either guess one of my shields (eagle, grass crest) or a katana of some sort (washing pole, perhaps?). My dex is 20, my strength is 22, doubt I'll be using it as my main, but it might be a good weapon for crystal magic weapon.
(4) Strong magic shield is busted. It makes you nigh invulnerable to everything. You take NO damage but can still be knocked back.
(5) If you're going to kill Gwynevere and make Anor Londo dark and you're planning on killing Gwyndolin, kill Gwyndolin first. When you make it dark in Anor Londo, when you die, you go back to the unlit fire back where you first enter.

Clear

CliffyB's Cock Holster
Well, just finished up everything in Lost Izalith and still cant see what the problem is.

The big first room is a bit slow to clear (although objectively there's no reason to kill any mobs other than the ones around the hidden bonfire) if you don't abuse crystal ring shield, but the rest of it was pretty good fun.

Siegmeyer's
event is cool, as is
Solaire's
finale and there's a good amount of loot if you search the area. The boss is kinda annoying with his tendency to one-shot you, but at least it stores progress and the run back across between attempts is easy thanks to the slowness of the little flame statue monsters to actually attack.

Only died on the boss, so managed to kill
Kirk
and get the spiked shield too.

Fun times.

Well there's not much to disagree about, if you aren't going for NG+ check out a youtube of the other ending ;) There are a whole pile of those snake guys and they bow to you and make you the new Lord of the Dark.

You are right you DID replace the guy you fought... but that was the trap. If you can piece together the games really abstract story from the NPC's and items, the guy controlling the illusion of Gwynevere in Anor Londo (Dark Sun Gwyndolin) is powered by the fire being lit. He knows that from his father (Lord Gwyn) lighting it, that it is a sacrifice of eons, you give up your soul and are consumed. So now that the fire is going out, he doesn't want to sacrifice HIMSELF... he wants some other chump to take the fall and he gets to live out as ruler of the world. So if you light it, that's what you are doing ;)

It isn't like either ending is really a good ending.
Without the fire, isn't it just the end? Neither ending is really a good ending, but in the former the latter sacrifices himself/herself to continue to allow man to exist while the latter is the main character choosing to be the lord of a ruined land until the darkness consumes everything

Yet another thing I miss from Demon's Souls is an actual good ending.

Finally took down the Bell Gargoyles. Funny how leaving for a week and coming back makes them that much easier. I take it I need to head down from Firelink now? I'm running back and forth through Burg/Parish to see if I missed anything in the meantime.

Next step is a door just before the dragon bridge that used to be locked. The gargoyles dropped a key.

well fuck just got to 100k of souls mark farming those stupid crow men and not a single drop. And just to think I need 9 its more frustrating... Although was nice to discover humanity increases my dmg output

Just to be sure... the miracle you get for those 9 souvenirs is needed for the trophy right?

I grinded 150k souls to get a silver knight shield, and the clam grind for twinkling titanite was even worse. :(

The door before the dragon bridge is unlock so you can continue from there.

It's not something you can miss or not get. Climb down there and fight your way forward... a demon awaits.

where is the best place to farm silver knight shield?
I grinded the two rooms in Anor Londo, the third bonfire after the two silver archers. You kill four, go back, kill four, all in about a minute or so. Even easier if you have good ranged since two of them will just stand there until you attack.

(1) you can get from killing Lautrec.
(2) join darkmoon, leave the ring on as you farm.
(3) you can kill 5 crows in a go round; run to the annex door, kill the first 2 on the roof, then step on the roof, 2 more show up, kill, run down the stairs into center tower -- jump off back by undead dragon carcass, run down stairs to bottom of center tower, there is a 5th crow sometimes. Make sure your gold serpent ring is on and you have 30 humanity.

to shed some light on the lore.

you are the furtive pygmy or a descendant of him/her.

here's a transcript from where you met Kaathe:

The truth I shall share without sentiment
After the advent of fire, the ancient lords found the three souls
but your progenitor found a fourth, unique soul
the Dark Soul
your ancestor claimed the dark soul and waited for fire to subside
and soon, the flames did fade, and only dark remained
thus began the age of men, the Age of Dark
However…
Lord Gwyn trembled at the dark
clinging to his Age of Fire, and in dire fear of humans
and the Dark Lord who would one day be born amongst them
Lord Gwyn resisted the course of nature
by sacrificing himself to link the fire, and commanding his children to shepard the humans
Gwynn has blurred your past, to prevent the birth of the Dark Lord
I am the primordial serpent
I seek to right the wrongs of the past to discover our true lord
but the other serpent, Frampt, lost his sense, and befriended Lord Gwyn.
Undead warrior, we stand at the crossroad
Only I know the truth about your fate
you must destroy the fading Lord Gwyn, who has coddled fire and resisted nature
and become the forth lord, so that you may usher in the Age of Dark

that is assuming he is telling the truth, but it seems so because if you choose to leave the final bonfire then the primordial serpents will serve you willingly (even Krampt).

You can upgrade your weapon with fire up to +5 without an ember at the blacksmith in catacombs.

yep, I will just one shot the two that don't aggro with the Crystal ring shield, then parry/backstab the other two. Best place to farm for their equipment, and decent soul farming as well. Put down your summon sign next to the bonfire and you can help people beat the boss in the meantime

I'm wearing Ornstein's armor without any kind of helmet, I like to see my Char face, I put on the helmet when I'm hollow tho :p

I know this is from some pages back, but I'd just like to give a heads up to people; I've done a lot of calculations on best defense vs weight. Any combination you do with a piece of armor missing will have way less defense than using 3 pieces of lighter armor.

It might look good, but you're dying more often because of it.

Also, I just beat The Four Kings. Man, that boss showed me the importance of poise. I threw on Havel's and Wolf's Ring. I was just standing there, hitting them, rolling occasionally, and when my health got low, I just healed. It wasn't like an attack from them was ever going to interrupt my heal. Worked out beautifully. Cheesy, but effective strategy.

Lost 14 humanity before that, though :<

You don't need the Poise ring, Havel's armor gives you plenty, put on the Stamina ring and the Grass Crest Shield on your back and go to town.

Also, someone recommend me a weapon to take to +15 for a high INT build with low 20s in strength and dex -- or should I beef a shield up to that level? Does a shield count for the weapon reinforcement trophy/achievement?

I don't know what weapon to recommend, maybe an Iaito+15, but Lightning Iaito +5 is better, and yes it counts if you take a shield to +15. The best shield to take to +15 is the Hollow soldier shield, surprisingly, it is very good at +15.

Huh, even better than grass crest/blood/iron round/eagle? Those are the four I use (well, not really the blood one...). I just got an extra titanite slab from the stray demon, so I could go to town -- I think I might have a secret farming location for regular titanite chunks too. :)

Guy who was in the sewers -- he moved to the bridge you have to jump to on the way up to undead burg from firelink. He'll sell boss armor after you beat them. S&O is only the one your obtained the soul for (the one beaten last).

The merchant that was at the end of the Depths, right before the door to Blighttown will move to under the bridge that links Firelink Shrine and Undead Burg. He is right next to where the Ring of Sacrifice is/was.

Is the hollow shield still superior even if I don't care about the parry/riposte? The risk reward is too great versus the backstab so I rarely go for it. Just switched from a hollow +5 to the eagle shield and don't miss the ability to parry...

Just attacking the tail wont cut it, you need to attack the lowest part of the tail..

I haven't used it myself, but I've been told that at +15 the Hollow soldier shield has 85 stability and good stats all around. So the Eagle Shield will be better for a while, but if you invest in the Hollow shield, it will be much better in the long run. I use the Silver Knight Shield+5 myself, it has 83 stability and good stats for resistances.

Keep a shield that can parry on you just in case you need it for

Well, I'm not sure it works.
But the giant who drops the boulders in the rolling mechanism on top of sen's fortress respawns. Sen's fortress bonfire > roof > jump to roof with giant, kill wearing gold serpent ring, get titanite chunk > homeward miracle > rinse, repeat.

I don't know if it works yet. But I'm going to try it, since I don't want to wait to open the final area to farm regular chunks again. And farming darkwraiths sucks.

Sitting at the Undead Parish bonfire above the blacksmith. Have almost 15,000 souls and just beat the Gaping Dragon boss. I figured I would buy the cursebite ring? from the guy on the church roof before I go Blighttown it up. But I also only have my pryo flame upgraded to +5 and still without the sorceror boost ring I can buy in Firelink. Nor do I have Iron Flesh yet.

I wish it was possible to grind souls faster. Everything is so damn expensive and IMO there is not enough souls to come by yet.

I know its possible for Laurenitis to leave, but if I just say No when he asks where I got my new spell or whatever does he stay there in Firelink longer? I know I have to get this flame upgraded to +10 or +15 soon, but I don't think its feasible with how many souls it takes.
