I have terrible sense of direction :/
Also this area reminds Swamp from DeS ;_;
Also giant enemy rat ;_;

If the Depths are giving you flashbacks to the Valley of Defilement, then... oh dear. You poor thing. You are not going to like what comes after the Depths very much at all.

Blighttown is up there with Cortana from Halo 3 on my least favorite levels/areas list.

I despise Blighttown.

Was that the weird mission in the cave where you were shooting some kind of bugs that hung on the walls that had never been seen or mentioned before?

Can you even parry with an offhand dagger? I thought that was the point of the parrying dagger, a special weapon that you can both attack with and parry while in your offhand.

I thought any Dagger could parry in the left hand.

Though hell, now that I think about it I should just load up my main character and try parrying for a while to figure out what I like. Not sure why I'm bothering to philosophize and bloviate on the matter when I could just practice.

Cortana took place on a Flood infested High Charity. It was ugly, confusing, monochrome, with cheap enemies (the pure forms had been introduced before, but never in such tight quarters) with shitty weapons. To make it even better, there are scripted story segements that force you into false tunnel vision in order to make you pay attention, and you can't turn them off, even on subsequent playthroughs.

It is one of the worst levels ever. It's literally the kind of bad that mission designers get fired over.

made it through Tomb of the Giants, was saving it for last before heading off to the final section. Wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Took the boss down in less than a minute though. Trying to make the most out of my pyro before the patch lol.

Also, upgraded the Gravelord sword to +5 and that shit hits hard. Starting to like it, was getting bored of using the Uchi. Cool to see that it's going t be even more powerful after the patch too, plus it looks badass.

the shortcut to Blighttown from Valley of Drakes makes it much more bearable.

basically skips right to the end of it. which is awesome, imo.

I know a lot of people hate the archer twins in anor londo... fog ring doesn't work, hard to cheese, iron skin no help, etc. However, if you have Invisible Body + Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring that DOES work... you can just walk right up beside them and they never fire a shot. By the time they see you, they drop their bow and draw their sword, making this part far less frustrating for anyone having problems (at least who has access to that spell).

ixix said:
I've never been to the bottom with the fog still there so I'm not entirely sure where it is, but Leeroy can spawn as soon as you're on the narrow walkway on the cliff face overlooking Ash Lake. I was just standing there admiring the scenery when he spawned and jumped me. If the fog door is the small cave entrance after that point then yeah, you can fight Leeroy pre-Anor Londo.

This is the conclusion I'm reaching too, hence my selection of the Black Cleric gear. My basic train of thought was that, hey, Oswald looks awesome wearing it and dual-wielding, I could look awesome wearing it and dual-wielding. And then on top of dual-wielding weapons you throw in dual-wielding Miracles and Sorcery and, wow, double the awesome.

Anymore in PvP I basically never use my shield anyways and just try to dodge everything, so I'll never even miss it. And if I'm wearing little enough armor that I'm full speed without the Dark Wood Grain Ring then I get my ring slot back. Sounds like a win-win.

Only thing I'm wondering is just how much better the Parrying Dagger is for parrying than, say, the standard Dagger. Going Parrying Dagger means 14 Dex is needed, regular Dagger I could use with the 10 Dex I'll need for the Barbed Straight Sword. That's 4 whole stat points saved right there.

Holy shit. That's Ash Lake?! Mind am blown.

But yes, that's the narrow path -- I think the yellow fog is at the point where it forks and you head right (and start encountering the large skeleton towers). I think you can walk all the way down to where Leeroy spawns (which must overlook Ash Lake)... normally, he spawns when I'm headed down the narrow path after I took the right.

------------

Invasion
NOTE: If you defeat Gravelord Nito before defeating Leeroy, he will no longer show-up in your current play-through.
While you are in human-form (revive yourself with a humanity), run from the last bonfire of the level towards the end where the yellow fog door was before acquiring the lordvessel that leads to Nito. You will see a large foggy chasm to your left and a narrow ridge to run down on the right side. A cave entrance will be on your right that the yellow fog covered. Walk past said cave and Leeroy will spawn at the very end of the path.
Leeroy's invasion will happen regardless if he's summoned in the catacombs or not.
Note: You have to have placed the Lord Vessel at the altar and making the Yellowish/Red Fog gates disappear. Otherwise Leeroy will not invade you.

God I can't wait to get home and play. Dammit I'm going to knock out S&O solo if it kills me. Then I'll spend some time upgrading. I would do it now, but I wanna do it before the patch hits and my gold hemmed set is useless...and I don't want to backtrack through Anor Londo.

Man I'm Jonesing for this game so much more than Demon's Souls. :)

I had no problems with the archers. They killed me once, after that, I just ran up the buttress, took out my shield, got all up in the right one's grill, and he dodged right off the building. Easy as pie.

Also, does anyone have that supposedly massive GameFAQ's story thread? My google-fu is weak tonight and there's no way I'm wasting my time searching through there manually.

how do I get invaded by the darkmoon covenant in Anor Lando?

I killed
the princess
, place is dark, but the only people that invade me are darkwraiths. Are darkmoon invasions really that rare?

I was so annoyed at Tomb of the Giants at that point that I was making sure to stay on the narrow path to check for treasure before trying to get the eff out of there. :)

As soon as he mentioned it, I was like "OOOOH, THAT'S WHY IT LIGHTENS UP AT THE END OF THAT NARROW PATH!".

I thought it was really cool that you could see Izalith from the Tomb of Giants. I was just so not expecting it.

Anyone have a listing of areas you can visit in what order? For instance you can go to Undead Burg, Catacombs, etc at first, but you can't go to Undead Parish until after the Burg. That sort of thing. Just curious for when I get to NG+.

EDIT: let's assume no master key

Fuck. Missed that too. Next time y'all are down there, take a picture or two for me -- or link me to a youtube video? :)

Any tips for beating Ornstein and Smough?

I'm getting really frustrated. I'm pretty much out of humanity because I'm trying to recruit people, but I'm getting invaded every time and they're using that fog ring. Also for some reason they're pretty much one shotting me. Aren't they supposed to be around my level?

Am I too low level for these guys? I'm currently @ 62 and here's my focus:
Vit 20
End 22
Str 31
Dex 25

I have the lightning spear +3 and I'm using Knight Shield +5. I have the Crystal Ring Shield but it's not doing the damage everyone else is saying it should do.

Also I'm trying to search for Titanite chunks to upgrade my spear to +4, but farming seems to be in a later area with the exception of the 2 gold knights before I face those two, but it's apparently a rare drop. Is there anywhere else to farm?

I solo them at lv 65 and killed Ornstein last (want his armor). My stat was similar except I have lower STR and 18 INT. I pretty much kite them around with great soul arrows. Never attack unless both of them are in recovery/out of range. Use pillar to block the lightening and Smough charge. Try to keep both of them on your screen, as you don't want one charge you from the side, which Ornstein likes to do with his zig zag charge.

Giant Ornstein is badass if you get hit, especially by his impale. I pretty much used the same strategy: hide behind pillar (lightening bolt can do tons of damage even when blocked), maintain medium distance (far enough not to be impaled but still within spell range) and fire soul arrow. I tried to melee before, but I cannot dodge his butt slam reliably. Ornstein is also strong against lightening, so maybe you want to switch to a regular weapon and apply fire/magic enchant. I never fight the giant Smough before but I heard it is easier.

If you have the catalyst from Dusk in (purchased from Dark Root Basin for like 2k) then you can do it with low int, since that catalyst has 180 mag adj and does not scale with INT anyways. I went in with homing soul mass (which sucks at 18 INT, don't bother) and 2 x Great soul arrow. Magic does not do much damage but it is fast to cast and has a good range. I never use magic in a boss fight before, but this time it worked well. I tried to use pyro but it takes too long to cast and has a short range.

Should be fairly active. Under those circumstances the Darkmoon invaders don't announce their arrival, so you may not be noticing them. On the PS3 version some of the activity there has dried up since we've been separated from the Japanese players until our versions synch up again, but if you're on 360 I dunno what the reason might be.

Well let's see. From Firelink Shrine with no Master Key your options right off the bat would be Undead Burg, Catacombs, or New Londo Ruins. From there you could proceed to, from memory:

Undead Burg -> Undead Parish -> Lower Undead Burg/Darkroot Garden/Undead Asylum -> Depths/Darkroot Basin -> Blighttown -> Demon Ruins/Valley of Drakes/Great Hollow -> Lost Izalith/Ash Lake

Catacombs -> Tomb of Giants (poor Catacombs, nothing wants to connect with them except more, bigger catacombs)

New Londo -> Valley of Drakes

After Undead Parish & Blighttown -> Sen's Fortress -> Anor Londo -> Painted World of Ariamis -> Duke's Archives (after placing Lordvessel)

I think that's the lot. Without the Master Key you've not got a lot of options. Needing to get partway through New Londo and Blighttown to open their access to Valley of Drakes pretty drastically reduces your options for sequence breaking without the Master Key.

Hey guys! Been advancing and doing some stuff including opening the shortcut to Blighttown from Valley of the drakes.

Got a question... Is Shiva very far from the entrance from the Valley? Also any general directions to him would be welcome. I really want to +10 an uchigatana.

Thanks!

No problem, was fun. Make sure you go and pick up Ornstein's armor from the Merchant under the Aqueduct near Firelink Shrine.

Up near the Undead Burg or near the actual shrine?

Again, thanks!

From Firelink Shrine, you go up the path toward Undead Burg, instead of entering that Aqueduct where the rat is, drop down or jump to the bottom of the bridge, at the end of it should be a Ring of Sacrifice and the Merchant that sells you boss armor and other wares. Just hug the walls and you should be fine.

Btw after reading wiki i just realized there is something wrong on my game.
After saving Lautrec, i met with him at shrine he gave me a coin. According to wiki he is supposed to do some shit etc. But in my game he is gone from shrine and his victim is still alive.

Also the only npc i could summon before Depths boss was that sun worshipper guy.

Have you rang the second bell yet? His adventure doesn't happen until you do that.

I had no idea what people's problem with that fight was until last night. What a fucking nightmare. I just got fucking swiped into the void at least 4 times, then got killed by the fire storm while I was within spitting distance of the final weak spot.

Shiva is right by the ramp attached to the waterwheel, leaning up against the wall near an opening that kind of looks like a doorframe. You can't miss him if he's there and you enter via the waterwheel/valley of drakes.

Akuun

Looking for meaning in GAF
More info on O&S, with Smough taken down first:

As previously mentioned, try to keep both of them on screen at once so that you know when attacks are coming at all times. If you can, keep Smough between you and Ornstein, because Smough's bulk actually stops some of Ornstein's spear charges. Smough goes down quickly with the lightning spear so just swap to 2 hand during his recovery and stab him when you can. He should go down in 3 or so reps of this. Make sure you roll in the right direction against his hammer attacks, because sometimes they catch one type of roll or another.

For Super Ornstein, I used the same ranged tactic that was mentioned, except replace soul arrows with poison/regular arrows. Super Ornstein can be poisoned, and if you space him properly behind broken pillars, he'll try to lightning bolt you repeatedly when the bolts actually fizzle on a pillar in front of you, while still letting you shoot arrows at him. It's lame, but so is two FUCKING CRAZY BOSS DUDES ganging up on you, so I didn't feel bad about it.
