Where in the hell is
The Abyss
? I can't find it!

Ya it's a pain.

Run into New Londo, ignore the first 2 ghosts and run to the edge, drop down to lower New Londo, kill the one Darkwraith standing outside, don't go into the open square/up those stairs into the large building, instead to the right of it is a smaller staircase into a large building, go up that. Kill more Darkwraiths and a one-time spawned blob, then on the other side should be the fog gate.

PS : Is level 68 to soon to NG+ ? I killed any boss and nearly any npc in the game to get more souls, but I can't see how people can get to SL 80 or more in first playthrough.

Haha I'm at 85 and about to take on the last boss.

I would grind a lot to upgrade weapons and the like, and sometimes just to zone out.

How did you get so many souls ? Did you gridg ? Where ?

I finished with ~90SL

Probably because when I went to Anor Lando I didn't notice the beam that leads to the chapel so I thought I was to be supposed at somewhere else. I did Demon's Ruins, Catacombs/ToG and New Lando only to face dead ends because I never got the lordvassel so I just collected souls without making any true progress.

Is it just me or is the Black Knight Greataxe one of the best weapons in the game? With a STR build character, the damage is amazing and it's a great crowd control weapon when you use the light attack. Not to mention that's it's surprisingly fast for its size.

I switch between this and the Great Club +15 depending on where I am. Both amazing weapons. BKGA's weight limits my build a bit too much :<

Speaking of the Great Club, that thing WRECKS Giant Skeletons in the Tomb. Like how small blunt weapons smash normal skeletons to bits temporarily. Same thing for the Giant ones.

Heh, I'm level 69 myself and I'm in the same situation. My stats are a wreck anyway, I used too many points (7?) on resistance :/

The first room in Sen's Fortress with the two snake people is a great place to put your sign. Anor Londo is good too, but depending on if they have any of the shortcuts it can be a really long session. I'm around level ~70 right now, you should add me.

Cool, I will add you tomorrow when I play. :D

I'm only up to Tomb of the Giants and I'm SL 88. lol

I predict by the time I finish the game I'll be around 100 ish.

Getting souls is easy using the Darkroot Garden farming tactic. Boring/tedious, but easy. ;)

My current stats (first playthrough):

VIT - 30
ATT - 12
END - 37
STR - 24
DEX - 18
RES - 17
INT - 16
FAI - 16

Primary weapons:
RH1 - Lightning Longsword + 5 - 444 damage
RH2 - Darkmoon Bow + 5 - 358 damage
LH1 - Magic Eagle Shield + 10
LH2 - Tin Banishment Catalyst

Elite Knight Armor + 7 (all 4 pieces)

Currently using Cast Light and Great Soul Arrow as my spells in Tomb of the Giants.

Holy shit being a gravelord is fun, I guess people didn't really bother with the covenant pre-patch because it was actually not working properly. Post patch I invoked the eyes of death in the undead parish at the altar (SL75, NG+) I had 3 people invade me literally within 10-15 mins. Also was having fun in Anor Londo at 80+ and got invaded an ass ton of times.

Maintaining your eyes of death kinda sucks though, since you also need it to rank up =\

I was going to upgrade it, but since it requires Titanite to upgrade and chunks and slabs are a bitch to come by, I just spent my Dragon scales and upgraded the Dragon Tooth.

Oh man i found the best spot for PvP!
The narrow corridor which leads to bonfire room at Depths!

I was spamming Evil Eyes there in human form. Got some ppl for vengeance also got invaded plenty of times!

The trick is you can close the door at the end of tunnel and wait in the middle of it.
Since its a very narrow place the invader can't backstab you. They lose precious time by opening door which gives you some time for poisoning them even tho it doesn't kill them it is annoying!

then the duel begins. Some of the invaders didn't have patience and tried to melee in the corridor but it was a mess. Their big weapons kept hitting to walls lol meanwhile i was spamming combustions and fireballs! Some of them were smart and got back and tried to pull me out but i didn't fall for it instead i pulled out my dragon bow and start spamming arrows!

Yeah i am addicted to those too! Spamming them at catacombs and Depths. Btw the drop rate for stones increased after patch. Those frogs in depths drop them more often now.

Hee hee yeah good fun - I found a lot of people just waiting in there when I was trying to get all my ears - I'd use toxic mist then throw a few fireballs in there - some good fights now that all the dragon head glitchers and fog ringers have dropped off ... I could drop the blue eye stone and be invading before getting to the 2nd second set of rats.

Anyone know what the stats for the Channeler's trident are like at +5? Just got one finally but gonna need 8 more points in int to use it. The mage builds I've seen use it seem to do alright - and the 95% attack boost (wtf!) to allies makes it awesome for coop. Plus it's enchantable ... at sl 108 and was going to push my faith up to 30, wasn't planning on going past sl120 if I don't need to but since I haven't touched magic besides cast light was thinking of doing a mage build after I finish off my platinum ...

Also what is the best talisman? I don't understand what the Mag Adjust stat means as some have a low number but seem better than others...
Edit: derpy derp - prob cause I don't have the stat requirement to use it so it's not showing it's damage output ... also doesn't tell you how much stat scaling bonus you get like weapons ... makes it confusing :(

I do this all the time with weapons, armor, etc. Really quick and simple once you change up the order of the items to your liking.

Why did they change i enemy behavior in invasions?

Back then you could kill enemies in invaded world. I used to invade and send a msg to host asap telling them "I WILL HELP U TO KILL MOBS! DONT ATTACK ME!". I would escort them safely and gain trust till before the boss fog gate. They would bow to me as a sign of thanks.
THAT WAS THE LAST THING THEY DO! Backstabbing them right before the gate was pureeeeeee fun! And hey i am an invader! Never trust to someone in Demon's Souls! loll

I can't pull that trick in Dark Souls :(

I'd say that's a good change then... :p

2 questions regarding trophies

1) Do you need the Demon Spear for the all rare weapons trophy? (i see it listed on some lists and not others)

2) Souvenir of reprisals, whats the easiest way to get this as i have 2 only. (could that dragon head glitch be used to get more?)

Any good articles on Dark Souls?

Dark Souls: A Time to Grind

That's great, a really good read.

I am 8 hours in now and I feel so lost with no idea what's going on at all, but I love it! I love the grindy nature of the game, not played anything like this in years.

I've had a quick flick through this thread but just scanning really. All of this talk of rare weapons and +10 rarities etc, I know this all comes with time but did you just discover all of this yourself, or use a guide of some kind?

I am "just about to" (well, in the area of) the first bell in the 'Burg. Pass underneath the dragons tail, kill the rats and up that way. I got to the church but there is a MASSIVE guard at the back with someone above me shooting lasers!

I love the messages on the floor, one says to hit the dragons tail. Is that for later or now? Not sure how I could get it!

Thanks :)

Farm them in the painted world. Go through the door that the Annex key opens up, go up the stairs. When you get outside, go left and up the stairs again. You'll be able to fight 4 crows up here. They drop them.

I found it VERY easy. Never watched a guide or video. Saw the two runes (?), and thought "It's Dragon god 2.0". The rest was a peace of cake. Lucky one I guess.

Same here. I found it fun. I had camera low to the ground the first time the floor started to collapse so I wondered why I was suddenly falling, haha.

He means, once you put the first pendant down, you don't have another one to put down, glitch or no glitch. I dunno how the dragon head glitch would help with souvenirs.

Doesn't matter anyway as both glitches are fixed, unless you didn't patch and play offline.

Ah, no shit. My mistake. Yeah about the patch thing, too, but he mentioned he was just trophy whoring so I assumed he'd be willing to ... bah it's moot anyway. :p

Can someone explain to me exactly how the Eyes of Death/Gravelord thing works? I was able to use one in human form and the black stuff comes out of my face...and I can't seem to leave the area I used it in? (fog doors) I got killed by a phantom and unhollowed myself to use it again but now I can't...huh? What exactly does any of this do?

I think the 'grindy nature of the game' it's not so much in the game itself, but in each player. Comes from that 'no idea what's going on at all' emotion and the 'fear' of the next corner and what it might hide. So we prefer to build ourselves up a bit, instead of advancing.

Happened to me in my first playthrough, and I guess it happened to others too. We didn't know how immense the game is and what it had in store for us. It took me 8-10 hours to ring the first bell as well. Going back now, the Burg feels like the school where I learned to have courage and swing that sword, and parry that attack, and just let my curiosity drive me.

Re: weapons & upgrades: usually it's a combination of both :) But better use some help here and there, at least until you understand how it works. Something like this chart might be of help.

Re: dragon tail: it's for now more than later. 2 ways you can go about it and the safest one would be to get a bow, DEX of 12, a bunch of arrows, plant yourself beneath the dragon's bridge and potshot its tail. Do that for a while.

Re: massive guard & the laser shooting dude: the Church / First Bell is a great first opportunity to learn about using Humanity to turn yourself human to be able to summon other players in your game. Try that.

You can shoot the dragons tail with arrows from the bridge with the 2 undead that leads into that room with the three rats. You will get a sword which is pretty good for early in the game.

Behind that massive guard in the parish, is a firekeeper soul. Bring this back to the firekeeper in Firelink shrine (she's in a cage down some stairs near the bonfire), and she will upgrade your estus flask.

As Frank said, safest way is to shoot off the tail with the bow and arrows you can buy from the Undead Merchant in the Burg. The cheapest ones are 3 souls a pop, but you'll need quite a few - 80 maybe - to take the tail off. You automatically get the sword when the tail is destroyed, and it's an overpowered weapon, doubly as powerful as what you have now. However, it doesn't scale with your stats at all, so it'll eventually need to be discarded.

As for the Undead Parish, just get the Tower knight out of the chapel through the side door and beat him without interference from the channeler. Once you're done, go back in and arrow the Channeler to death from behind a pillar for the cheesy way. If you want a fairer fight, shoot one of his zombie minions next to him and they'll bum rush you, dropping off the platform, and then fight them outside his range. Then go back up and fight him.

Cheers guys, great tips.

I've not actually got a bow and arrows yet, been using a battle axe which has been fairly meaty :)

I'll try these out later :)

I am nearing the end, I think.

Defeated
Nito, Gwyn, Seath, Four Kings yesterday. Now I am going up against the Ceaseless Discharge, and trying to figure out my strategy for him.

He is one of those bosses that feels like ranged attacks is necessary. I haven't figured out a way of getting close to him without getting blasted by his spew attack/tentacle slam.

I've been hit with the Eye several times, but never once have I actually found the invasion sign. The game really needs to give some sort of indication of what direction it's in. Trying to find an invasion sign in Sen's Fortress is insane.

Damn, seeing your Demons' Souls playthroughs I figured you'd be among the first to finish. Real life interference?

Gwyn

I assume you mean Gwyndolin?

Also, there are two ways to beat Ceaseless Discharge- the "regular" way is to
use the hallway you passed on the way to the Gold Hemmed Set to trap her tentacle- go to where the hallway curves to the side, and the tentacle won't be able to reach you. Hit it few times while she recovers, repeat.

The second way is to lure it back to the fog door. There's a bottomless pit that you can lure it over to. You need to stay close enough to it where it tries to do the tentacle attack while you are luring it over, though, as if you get to far away, she just uses an undodgeable ranged attack.

Woooo, after 95 hours I DEFEATED the game. After quite a few tries using only melee, only blocking, only rolling and then only Soul Arrows I
parry'd the shit out of Gwyn! I never thought it would work but after practicing with the Kiln Black Knights I pulled it off and it felt fucking awesome :)

I got the hmmm
Linked the fire
ending and a couple of minutes later I thought "fuck, what if I
turn back after defeating Gwyn and go talk to Frampt or something instead of linking the fire" Is that how the endings work maybe? Is it a final final choice like in Demon's Souls? Or does it have something to do with Gwyndolin or the hidden NPC in the Abyss (haven't met any of those yet)? I've really tried to stay unspoilt even while regularly visiting this thread so please be vague when answering :)

I've never found a fair way to fight that boss. Every time I try the melee approach he does that seemingly unavoidable slam attack that can't be rolled away from.

Also, favorite and least favorite boss so far?

There's no real way to hint at the other ending without giving the whole thing away. However, I will say that all you have to do is walk back out of the Kiln to get the other ending. And yes, the Abyss NPC will give you some backstory to that.

EDIT: Favorite: My avatar. Gaping dragon is also fun, though he's easy.

Least: BED OF FUCKING CHAOS, with Four Kings as runner up
