The Covenants seem more like a novel way to get a clan system going or tie together the mythology and mp.
Well, World Tendency determined which Phantoms you fought, or which side-quests you could do. People would appear depending on it. I don't really know 'cause I'm 6 hours in, but I think Covenants do this.
Character Tendency is what affected some of the weapons, but I can't compare anything to Humanity really. Humanity is a very good cure in my opinion haha, so maybe it's the new Dark Moon Grass.
