99% sure this isn't the case; what's happening is they're dropping fake humanity from time to time along with the real thing. When an actual humanity drops, it doesn't go away; the fake ones you can't pick up at all, even if you get there in time.

There's fake humanity !?

Anyway, I think the best place to farm humanity if you're high level is those blue octopuses in dukes.

Took down the Four Kings. Then Catacombs and Tomb of Giants tonight. Those are truly 2 of the easiest bosses in the game.

It's time for Demon Ruins - Lost Izalith. But that's another night. Sniffing the finish line though. I'm at level 77, 45 hours in.

I skipped The Great Hollow and Ash Lake earlier in the game, because I wanted out of Blighttown. Since its mainly an item grab area or to join the dragon covenant, I still don't have the desire to go there.

man i must be terrible at this game lol my first play through i was probably 77 hours in and only level 45 lol

do you guys farm a lot to level up?

I have gotten a prompt to pick up one of the "fakes", but I got hit by a skeleton baby and it disappeared before I could press X :/

Hey Kenny, you may already know this. But after defeating Queelag and learning that great combustion spell or whatever it is, answer Laurentius at Firelink with a NO when he asks where you found that spell. Unless your pyro glove is fully upgraded already and you've gotten all the spells you want. If you tell him yes
he heads to Blighttown and goes hollow
.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I've not spoken to anyone in a while at Firelink actually.

I am currently in the Chaos Covenant. Ideally on my first play through I'd like to get as many of the Covenant Trophies as possible and thus all of the gear that they sell (for trophies such as miracles etc).

Looking at the Chaos one, they require a bunch of Humanity to give you a shortcut and access to items, so is it advisable to stick to one Covenant and fill it's requirements for gear, then move onto the next? I am still near the boss door in Andor Lando and I know there is a Covenant joining opportunity at the end of the level, so I should probably come back and join that one later.

Abandoning a covenant resets your rank. Ideally you'll want to rank up to obtain the rewards before moving on.

OK thanks. I think I am possibly too concerned about completion stuff at the moment, I keep forgetting it will be take a few playthroughs so anything I don't get now I can get on NG+ and ++ etc.

I am already at 50 hours Lv 70, SO GOOD. Definitely without question my Game of the Year. It's such an amazing game, never played anything like it!

Don't worry, no one finds that bonfire without help.
Not to brag, but I did :p
I thought it was pretty obvious there was a corridor there since there's one of those trap statues with spikes that is facing no direction in particular otherwise :/
Edit: then again, I would have probably never found the bonfire in darkroot garden without a friend telling me, that I must admit.

What about those Acid Worms that ambush you?
It's almost instant death.
The ones in Blighttown? Ambush? I don't get it, what do you mean? They're just lurking about, you don't even have to see any of them if you don't go wandering in the poison swamp trying to reach the great hollow (totally optional area, one of the bits I would have gladly cut from the game by the way).
Anyway, if you're actually referring to those they're just strong enemies, I don't think they're cheap deaths, just parry those blows and use poison resistent armor/rings. It's not like strong enemy = cheap death.

you can definite suck humanities out of the NPCs using the dark hand. there are close to 40 humanities on the NPCs in the firelink shrine. don't miss the opportunity when Reah and her two escorts arrive. if an NPC is sitting on the ground, you need to kick them up in order for your dark hand grab to reach them. kicking them won't aggro them. sucking them dry using the dark hand won't either.

I think i absorbed about 12 humanity from Reah before I killed her and then she dropped another 7 humanity lol

All of the Soul items you pick up, such as "Soul of a Brave Soldier" etc, are they only for converting into soul "currency"? There is no other use for them? I've not used a single one since starting the game and I just wondered! :D I have a couple of Boss Souls which I know are for weapons, but the regular ones, I am guessing I am safe to just convert them into souls and use them for levelling. I have loads!! :D

Yup, no other use for them.

Personally, I keep them for upgrading & materials. I reach a merchant / blacksmith without souls on me, I use some of these items to get souls and buy what I need from the guys.

Means I never have to plan specifically to get souls for something, unless it's something truly expensive like fully upgrading a pyro flame.

Not a bad idea at all, esp. considering I will want to buy all of the gear from the girl who appears at the altar after I save her later in the game (who appeared first with two guards in Firelink).

Will keep them for now. At a count though I have:

10 Lost Undead
7 Large Lost
9 Nameless
6 Large Nameless
5 Proud Knight
4 Large Proud
1 Brave
1 Large Brave
2 Hero
Quelaag
Iron Golem

Yeah they're used purely for soul gain.

Just use them at a bonfire though. Using them as you get them and then dying and dying again kinda sucks.
god i'm dumb

I lost 14 Humanity and 40k during those BASTARD Lightning Spear'd white flying shits at the start of Anor Lando. Nearly got back to my souls but I alerted two of them and they fucked me. Never mind! Mate of mine told me he lost 100k during the "Boss fight you can't win". Not got there yet...

I lost 80k on the boss you can't win. I was not prepared :(

Cannot believe it I am on my third run through and I've only just discovered through that weapon upgrade chart that there is a blacksmith in the catacombs, I was all "wtf is this vamos shit must be a typo lol", then checked the wiki....DARK SOULS (tm)

enjoying my glass cannon "pour everything into INT" build but had to put a few into END and VIT as I was getting one shitted too often. Not finding ranged magic effective for PVP though unless it is 2/3 on 1 and the guy is distracted, a decent player always seems able to avoid easily when its 1 on 1. Moonlight Greatsword is beautiful though and magic is great for PVE.

In two runs I have managed to pick up two symbopls of avarice, are these useful for anything in particular? Already planning my next run through, reckon it will be STR/FAI focus as those are two I haven't explored yet.

7 Large Lost x 400 souls each
9 Nameless x 800 souls each
6 Large Nameless x 1000 souls each
5 Proud Knight x 2,000 souls each
4 Large Proud x 3,000 souls each
1 Brave x 5,000 souls each
1 Large Brave x 8,000 souls each
2 Hero x 10,000 souls each

Basically, you have 73,000 souls stored away. Not much, in the grand scheme of things, but enough to help you here and there.

I'm kinda not looking forward to Demon Ruins - Lost Izalith after the complaints I've heard. Lost Izalith in particular I believe a lot of you hated.

And although I never summon anyone (hollow 4 life), I wanted to finish Solaire's storyline. But I realized after playing through this game, and only using humanity once or twice to kindle, I have a total of 12 humanity and 1 twin. That's ridiculous, and I'm not gonna go farm them now.

Is that the one that stops you from losing anything when you die, but it then breaks? I found that ring somewhere.

yes, that's the one. you get several in each play through. and that battle that you can't win is probably the only situation where you really need to use one.

are you pre-patch? now boss and all invading NPCs drops humanities. if you want to stay hollow, at least try to be summoned which will earn you humanities. i believe you also get humanities if your message get positive ratings. so leave useful messages, too.

anyways, i have over 100 humanities in stock and don't know where to use them...

Yeah, I'm pre-patch. I can't get online due to my wifi restrictions in my apt. My only option would be to go farm them for drops. Oh well, Solaire's fate is sealed.

that's tough. after the patch you get humanities left and right. as mentioned, i have over 100 in stock and have never ever run out of "active" humanities either. i usually have 10, not that i want to keep the active, but because I just keep getting them...

I've found both Demon Ruins & Lost Izalith to be quite on the OK end of the scale. Especially after the latest patch, the aggro range of dinosaur legs from Lost Izalith has been lowered. There are also less of them then previously.

Keep your eyes open and you can reach the 2nd bonfire from Lost Izalith without aggro-ing any of them.

Demon Ruins is fun because it matches you against old foes -- the Capra & Taurus Demons. By the time you get there, they'll be your little bitches.

And while they look gigantic, I found both areas to be quite short actually.

If I die trying to kill Knight Lautrec in Andor Lando do I get another chance straight away? Or just one chance and that's it? I am wondering if the Black Eye Orb vanishes once you have used it.

Don't worry, you can try again. I found out for myself after underestimating him :/

Just killed him, he's fairly tough, but he's damn fast and his two mates are savage. I killed him, then died. I came out with

5 Humanity
Ring of Favor and Protection (which breaks if removed)
Firekeeper Soul
Souvenir of Reprisal

Is the Souvenir what makes the Firekeeper come back to life? Or just the Firekeepr Soul, which I guess you could use to increase the flask, but I'd rather have Firelink back again!

The souvenir is for one the the covenants (blade of the darkmoon). The firekeeper soul you should definitely hang on to.
When you get back to firelink go to the spot you found the black eye orb and you can revive her. Also, after you beat the Smough and Ornstein you can find Lautrec's armor upstairs in the boss fight room.

When you are early in your game losing this amount of souls and humanity sucks ass. But later on, this amount of souls can be a single boss fight in PVP. I have lost a couple times (due to invasions as I primarily play in human form) more then a million souls and over 50 humanity. It sucks, but a few hours of PVP in the kiln, Tomb of Giants or lost Izalith for Fire Sage and you are over-flowing with souls and humanity once again.

Cheers, sounds good!
I think I should head for the boss now, I've grinded with the Silver Knights and the two huge dudes in the Great Hall for a couple of hours now. So, this next boss is not one but two? Awesome, probably nails! :D

How to I change my Lightning spear to +1 and so on?

With titanite chunks. Any blacksmith can do it, and so can you at a bonfire if you bought the weapon upgrade kit.

Sorry for spoiling that about the boss :/ If it's any consolation, it's an amazing fight.

I am Pyromancer, does Intelligence and Faith boost my Pyro Flame Glove? My Glove is +2 now, but will it get even more powerful by increasing my Intelligence and Faith levels?

This is correct. If you want to convert a weapopn to Lightning status you have to use the giant blacksmith in Ando Londo. Once you have a lightning weapon you can upgrade it yourself to +5.

Strenght of your Pyro glove is not based on any stats. You need to upgrade your glove at one of the Pyro merchants. Increasing DEX will enable you to cast pyro spells a bit faster though.

Anywhere to get some concrete information on this? I've heard this before but I've never noticed any change in cast time as a pyro or sorcerer.
