Something weird happened earlier. I was around the Undead Parish with my new Level 10 build. I dropped my white soapstone hoping to get summoned. A few seconds after I dropped it I got a message on screen that I was invading as a Dark Spirit.

Got dropped in to someones game and right before I reached them they entered the Gargoyle fog gate. I don't know how or why this happened. Anybody else experience this?

Happens every so often, just a glitch with joining other players games. Sometimes you swap roles when you summon in. Instead of being invader you are a white phantom, or you invade as another covenant.

Darksouls got me to look at other melee focused MP games I've come to the conclusion that it's my favorite. I played some Mount & Blade, Chivalry and just bought and downloaded Blade Symphony.

I think Dark Souls even surpasses my old fav Jedi academy. Dark Souls has a lot of jank and cheese but the combat just feels so meaty and deliberate that it is really hard for me to get into the others again.

So apparently the reason why the Dark Souls 2 beta is so shit is that the gameplay hasn't been a focus and the beta is just a network test for netcode and such?

Strange occurrence.
After rescuing Rhea from the Catacombs I usually kill Petrus so he doesn't end up killing her. I don't buy her miracles and just leave her in the church so she never goes hollow in the Duke's Archives. I did it the same this time and she's in church but I cannot talk to her and there is another version of her in the firelink courtyard attacking me on sight? I've never had this happen before. I'm gonna absolve my sins and see what it does.

You must have
killed Petrus;
1. Before Rhea arrived in Firelink shrine (check)
2. Saved Rhea in the catacombs (check)
Because If you
kill Petrus before Rhea arrives in Firelink shrine, Rhea and her body guards usually attack you on sight (In Firelink Shrine when they arrive).

So I am kinda farming around Anor Londo to upgrade my shield, and the Black eye Orb started activating. I tried killing him twice but I failed (though it seems to me that it is not that ahrd, it is just a matter of time). However, I cant exactly pinpoint when and how I can activate the black eye orb. In the wiki it says that you can only activate it while human, but I can do it while hollow as well. Just not whenever I want? What gives?

Absolve your sins and she will be back to her true self.
That happened to me once, it's a glitch.

It only activates in that big hall. Being hollow or human doesn't change anything.

yesssssssssss, finally!!!

I did it, I beat the
fuck buddies
in Anor Londo!!!

First I beat
Laurtrec
, quite easily, and I got 5 humanities (thank GOD, because I was all out and didn't know what to do).

I summoned a dude next to the bonfire, went to the hall, summoned Solaire just to be even safer, and went right in. The dude went after Smough, Solaire went after Ornstein. I helped Solaire kill Ornstein, but unfortunately the dude got killed from uber-Smough, then Solaire got killed from uber-Smough, after both of them helped me get him to 1/3 health. I had 3 flasks. I stayed back for a long time learning his moves. It proved to be quite easy after all, he was pretty easy to dodge, run in for a swipe, then right back out.
I feel like a cheater though that I used the help from a player and Solaire. Like my character hasn't become a real man in Dark Souls yet. If he had soloed it I would be so proud.

Anyway, really excited now, it seems like I have so many places to go. I'll try my luck in the forest, now that I have plenty of souls to get that crest to unlock the magic door. It seems like a cool place to explore.

Praise the sun bitches!

Well, Vinny's DS video stream on Giant Bomb has convinced me to finally get around to playing Dark Souls properly. Now to just get past my usual RPG fear of "playing it wrong" or developing my character wrong and just let it flow. Won't be easy...

Don't worry about it! My first character was a statistical mess and I still enjoyed the game so freaking much.

Man getting 1000GS in this game is a chore. I missed a Blue Titanite slab in my first playthrough Now I have to go through NG++ all the way through the Archives to get that slab again. I'd much rather start a PvP build or a new PvE guy but my obsession with 100% this game has me playing my silly cleric through a third time.

If you have the DLC there is another blue slab in a chest in the woods.

Souls is currently the best. But there are some things (very fundamental things) that bother me. Some of these things seem to be different in Capcom's Deep Down. It has me very curious, unfortunately we just don't know enough about it to get me too excited. But it's the nextgen game I'm watching most closely.

Even though I find it at times less than ideal, Souls is reigning king of melee. Hopefully a challenger enters the ring, because competition is always good. I honestly want a game that's even more deliberate. And if I never see another corny dodge-roll again in my life I won't be upset. lol

I think I'm finally broken, I just can't get past the 4 Kings.
I've finally had enough of this utter bastard of a game :-(

Yeah, they're a bit tough.

Out of curiosity what weapon are you using, what are your stats and what's your weapon upgrade status?

I'm asking because at its core the 4 kings is a DPS check.

Half your problems with the 4 kings can be solved with Havel's armor and the other half with a better weapon.

4 Kings in NG+ is another "grown man crying" situation. Just don't have enough STA it seems. May have to break out the Furysword again. Hmmm.

EDIT: LOL so yeah, I was half joking when I mentioned the Furysword, but it ended up being the key to success. I had already poured points into Endurance in my ongoing quest to emancipate myself from Havel's Ring, so that sword just sipped STA, and going full blast with 10 Humanity I took out the Kings in one try. I have way better blades, but hey, go figure.

ecosse_011172, if you still have Queelag's soul and have not yet crafted the Furysword, it may be worth a shot. You need a +10 curved blade weapon (like a Scimitar or Falchion) and bring the soul to the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo.

small question: is it recommended that I do the DLC/Oolacile BEFORE Duke's Archives? Or after?

Taking a break in the DLC/Oolacile before completing the Duke's Archives is a good experience, because you'll be introduced to some encounters in the game. The items gained here, will also be helpful.

But..
Might as well do Duke's first considering you need to go there to access the DLC anyway.

You'll need to encounter the plot element, to get to the DLC/Oolacile.
Which is at the start of the Duke Archives.

Ok so now I have the LordVessel, and I have to kill these dudes. I have this problem. I don't know where to go, but I don't want to spoil myself and I don't want to ask you guys where to go. (I know it is kind of an open game, but I have difficulty deciding) I have this problem because before, I hadn't found the existence of the Depths (and therefore Blighttown, and Sen's Fortress and Anor Londo) at all, and I was fooling around in the forest, and in Darkroot Basin, and New Londo Ruins, completely oblivious to these other areas, and I ended up running around in circles trying to find somewhere to go. I knda want to avoid this this time, in case there is some specific way to go at this moment.

Are there any indications in-game that there is a "correct" order to do things? Or is it truly open? How can I tell which area atm is more suited to my character? How did you guys decide where to go each time?

If you watched the cut scene when you placed the lordvessel you should at least have a rough idea where to go. If that doesn't help just explore more and look for paths you missed and places you didn't go yet. If you skipped the vid you could find it on youtube I expect.

Yeah, that figures, I am at the start of the Archives now (I don't know where the other two golden gates are). I guess it is a pretty good choice at this point. Thanks!

Man there are a ton of AFK Japanese catbro players. Why? I can't figure it out. I see the same names popping up over different days even.

I've forgotten myself to take my DM ring off a few times, but the sheer number of specifically players from Japan doing this is strange. Maybe it's the time of day I'm playing or something.

My advice is to keep the best area, aka the DLC for last.

Do it after Duke's Archive. But really,
it's up to you

Thanks for all the replies, guys! I already defeated the golem
at the start of the archives :p
but I guess I'll explore the archives for a while before doing the DLC :)

They are probably farming souls. Keep the game on overnight, get summoned, and you are bound to rack up souls as the hosts die to other invaders/NPCs/falls off ledges/whatever.

Just dont level your character with anything you dont need. vit and end are ok but dont go crazy.....dont do resistance ever, choose a main stat to get damage bonus from....i.e either str, dex or both (quality build from demon's), and if you want to go magic do either int or faith. In general level up your weapons before your character, whatever weapons you like will determine what you want to level to get the most damage out of them. Dont use a wiki to tell you what to do or where to go but do consult to figure out the bonus damage system and what humanity does etc.

small question: is it recommended that I do the DLC/Oolacile BEFORE Duke's Archives? Or after?

inb4 "it's up to you" replies :(
If you are a sorcerer you want to do dukes first as the sorcery path has much to gain in dukes. there are lots of sorcery items in the DLC but you want to get the dukes ones first I would think....nothing wrong with checking out the DLC to see what's there.....and establishing some warp points, then warping out and warping back etc. If you are not a sorcerer, then it really is your choice, but you would base your decision on what items you want to get out of the area. If this is your first playthrough you wont know what items are where, and there is one NPC/boss cutscene change depending on the order you do the boss in the garden vs. DLC but its not related to Dukes. I believe its better to to do the DLC before the garden boss if you wnat to see the special cut scene (although I have never done it myself just watched on youtube.)

I have always allowed myself some spoilers and at least minimal wiki, althoug Iwill not do any for Dark souls 2....I will however start multiple characters and as I find teh items I need in the different areas I will go back and forth witht eh characters such that each specialist eventually gets the stuff, based on the knowledge of the other characters progress..

The problem is that the preferred order in an open world depends on your goals...there really will be a best path for a sorcerer for example, as most of the magic and the NPC that gives it is in a particular area. you will obviously want to get the sorcerer stuff ASAP, because why be a sorcerer if you don't get the sorcerer items until the end? Without knowing what your goals are as far as what kind of character or whether you want to coo-op in covenants etc, I or anyone else really has no idea. There will be a best order for certain equipment, and if you wish we can outline hints such that you are set in a good direction, but otherwise, you really are forced to explore and find stuff and base your actions on what youfind.

Cleared the Duke's Archives and now heading for the Crystal Caves. It was kinda easy, only the Channelers were annoying. Any recommendation for the caves? :p

If you stall and predict a fall, look to the heaven s for a sign of grace, you will get a
snowflake
on your nose and face, without which, your path wont trace.

or just summon someone who knows the way.

I could use some tips for tackling Kalameet, I just can't seem to do it. Partly because I feel I'm too slow at the moment. I've been using a +15 Zwei and +5 BKGA since forever but they aren't the fastest weapons and weigh a lot.

Been thinking about maybe raising a faster weapon, such as the Washing Pole, to +15. Would this be a good idea or should I be looking at another weapon and/or path? I've never really played around with anything other than fire/lightning before so I'm very uncertain. At the moment I haven't used any of the slabs except one Titanite, of which I have 3 more.

My stats, since they obviously influence what I should be looking for are as follows:

VIT-39, END-30, STR-36, DEX-25, INT-15, FAI-14

Right now I'm sitting on some 600k souls (which makes me even more afraid of this boss) so I could raise some stats if necessary.

Also, holy shit when I booted the game it couldn't read my save and I almost passed out in fear. Then I realized I had remembered to make a backup a while ago, thank god :p

YEAH, FUCK YOU SEATH, I DEFEATED!

Took me two tries. The first one I fucked up the tail-cut thingie, he crushed me to death. The second one, I spammed him with my Fire Zwei. I spent the whole fight pretty much between his belly and one of his tails. Thankfully I had 20 Estus+2 so even though I took a lot of heavy hits, I managed to recover myself without much problem. After a few minutes, he was DEAD, and I achieved victory.

IMHO Kalameet is more about learning to anticipate his moves and not getting greedy. My first time at him was with a large club and I did ok although I'm often rolling with big slow weapons so I'm used to it. Are you on fast or medium movement speed? I really think this fight is much easier the faster you move.

Also, only fire/lightning? Do you mean your Zwei is elemental and not +15? With those stats of yours a normal upgrade path should be the best.

With 40 strength you could try out the Man Serpent and with 40 dex the Murakumo. Both are faster than the Zwei yet do solid damage.

No the Zwei is +15, I meant that over all my playthroughs I've only ever used +15s, fire, and lightning weapons.

And I'm on medium movement speed, I'm finding it rather hard to reduce my weight ;)

A part of my problems come from the fact that I would really like to get the weapon drop which makes it a bit more difficult. However at this point I'm starting to question if it's worthwhile at all :p

Oooh I see.

Go naked if you have to ;D

Seriously, Kalameet is quite big, moving around faster will help a lot. There's one or two moves that expose his tail, just roll around until they happen.

It's more Shadow Tower (aka best From Soft game ever) actually.
I guess they removed the background music (as in Shadow Tower) to give more impact to the sound effects and make the player more aware with his surrounding.
Which is good IMO.
