Sullichin is pimp. Those 4 dudes had no chance. NO CHANCE.

I need to add more dark souls players.

Steam and GFWL are both CountAntonius. I usually pvp but I'm open to helping people through co op as well. Have two level 100 one dex and one strength.

Any good builds for a low level character to help newbies(and invade them)? Not sure what is a good level to stay at to get the most action in before ringing the bells.

everyone already has access to pyro, and so many enemies have different weaknesses?

Yes please, lets tell these guys to farm 200k-300k souls for their pyro glove + spells.

Also the most common weakness enemies have is to strike attacks. Chosing a blunt weapon will overall be the most reliant source of damage.

But jedis dont use clubs, right?

Wait a second... jedis? really?

So you love so much the washing pole because you roleplay a jedi or what?

I went pyro for this run and honestly I haven't even used anything outside a few chaos bombs here and there. I only have two slots and I've never felt like I'm dishing out any more damage with pyromancies than what I could through swordplay alone.

You really need to stack the crown and the ring for pyro builds.

Bitmap Frogs

Mr. Community
Oh shit. I got the ring, but how am I supposed to get the crown?

You have to kill the hydra at the basin, then at the back of the lake there's a cave where a goldem golem appears. Kill it and then out of it comes Dusk. Talk to her, then move to the edge of the hydra lake by the rock and you'll see Dusks's summoning sign. Summon her, talk to her, then run back to the golden golem cave and you should see a corpse with the loot shiny.

That's the antiquated set to which Dusk's Crown belongs.

I hope your character is a female because that crown looks ahem, very feminine.

An alternative is the redonkoulos Dark Moon Crown that you can buy off Domhall after killing Gwyndolin. Dusk's Crown is more potent but also makes you vulnerable to magic damage so it's a trade off.

Be careful when killing the golden golem, dusk pops right where it died so you might agro or even kill her, for example with those pyromancies that leave behind lava pools or those that have a long effect like the whip or the surge. It's known to happen.

I... seem to have some trouble. I did everything before the summoning of Oolacile a while back, but never bothered to actually summon her since I thought I'd be doing that later. Now, OF COURSE, the summoning sign is gone, probably because my progress triggered something (currently in Lost Izalith). I'm not going to get that crown in this playthrough, am i? And yeah, my char is a hot redhead. Well, as hot as Dark Souls characters get.

Did you activate the DLC?
If so, save Dusk by killing Manus, then see if you can summon her.

Also just quit/reload and make sure her stuff isn't by the golem/dlc entrance already

Yeah I activated the DLC. Only lit the bonfire and warped back since I was actually in the golem cave looking for the summoning sign or the stuff and ended up touching some black hole thingie.

just beat the Catacombs and Pinwheel. Surprsingly tame, but it was fun.

Should I go to the Tomb of Giants yet or maybe the Duke's Archives? The DLC happens after Duke's right?

The summon sign is by the lake shore, near the.. knight set?

The corpse spawns behind that black thing if I recall, try checking.

Or go kill Gwyndolin and use the Dark Moon Crown.

The stuff related to the DLC is really early in Dukes but you may need to do some other stuff first. Won't spoil. Very easy to miss the DLC entirely so you may consider a walkthrough.

I already killed the golden golem and "freed" Dusk... is that what you're talking about? :)

Will check that place out again, thanks.

Leg extravaganza in the lava! I ended up getting and upgrading Pharis's bow. I'm not going to melee those annoying motherfuckers. There's like a hundred of them.

I'd recommend just doing ToG since you're already down there. It can be a pain in the ass to leave and then have to go through the Catacombs again just to get back there.

And you don't have to go through all of Dukes to access the DLC.

I put this game off for a couple months (about a year I think?) since it came out on PC. Rang the first bell and put it aside due to other games and personal life. The past couple of weeks, I have picked it up and it became like gaming crack for me! Just finished my first playthrough and eager for the next round. Phenomenal experience!

Hi there. Since yesterdays EU beta I am not thinking about anything else than Dark Souls.

I was never a huge player, but have 10hours played as warrior that is around level 22 and I am still in the Undead Burg(?).... so I haven't made real progress whatsoever...

I don't want to read some tutorial on which is the best or how to approach the game, but would like to know some tips, since I will start a new character...

Please. Which character should I choose and what main stats should I upgrade with him.
I am not afraid of dying - it makes me stronger. So any tip that would help in this new "finish DS" adventure is appreciated. Thanks a bunch
because its fresh in my mind, just remember ....its your virgin run so take care not to follow the wrong advice....for you.....sounds like you dont mind dying.....so go places you dont think you're supoposed to yet, grab items, and do suicide runs if you have to.... to get all the equipment you can...dont stic with one weopon the whole game especiallt early on....try lots so you can make your virgin run special to you.. Enter as many covenants as possible...if you dont level too much you wont lose progress which is zero for switching......my advice is to use a hybrid approach to wikis....rarely use them to find your way....but do look up builds and weapons etc. and do read all in game lore adn talk to all NPC's etc. they give you tips as well.

Wouldn't the Moonlight Greatsword be the Jedi weapon? It's a lightsaber.
Not really, the MGS is a FROM special, but it is more OP than what a Jedi would use. The BSS is a decent jedi weapon, as the video Booshka showed indicated, but washing pole is still my personal favouite for the reach and moveset.....especially the running R1. I like using emit force instead of simply force or Wrath of God....the animation is deadly as people can punish you for it....but it looks a lot more like how real Jedi's move when they emit force. The lightning bolts are not quite on par with the master electrical storms, emit force is more authentic, but to have a decent character in the game and in PVP the bolts are a pretty good addition. I liked the set in the video assuming it is some kind of cleric set....but I found the logan set to be easy to upgrade using twinkling and it has some pretty good resistances.
Here is your Jedi roleplay in Dark Souls.

LOL, most pyro specialists will max it pretty early, but not everyone has to max their pyro glove for it to be useful on O and S, or any enemy that is weak to fire...now you're just trolling. Really, new players are so inadequate they have to use blunt weapons now?. I thought they should stick with the furysword?????!!?! LOL, yOu can give your advice to new players I'll give mine, I clearly disagree with your rigid interpretation of what this game is all about, but that is your choice. Yes thanks. I like to play as a Jedi, and any player who wants to play as any creative build they like best follow their personal ambition as well. Of course I don't play as a jedi all the time, but it was an early favourite, bows only, magic, black knight only, low level, strength, etc. are all fun and recommended as well.

That's great ....you may want to get a few characters going that specialize in certain things...do some of the covenant quests and things.....but also consider Demon's if you have a PS3...it was the original and irreplicable souls experience, (was coined as crack early on) and although dark improved on some aspects, Demon's is better at certain things as well....especially environments.

I am relieved all your crappy, destroying advice was just base off you pretending to be a jedi to wag your make-believe laser saber in game. Knowing it was just irrational pretending makes me have some hope for humanity yet.

But not everyone's gonna pretend to be the lightsaber kid, so please preface your posts with this information.

And boy the lingering ring won't do nothing, so instead of 60 seconds between bonfires, now it's 90 seconds! Awesome.

Speaking about pyro yeah well, maybe your advice is to use a level 1 pyro flame and only use fireball for some bizarre roleplay reasons but... I don't know.

And OK I will concede a buffed washing pole might be ok if you wanna play jedi for 60 (sorry, 90 seconds). But for everyone else there are way, way better options available. Boy I bet those people having trouble with the game are gonna have a riot. Nevermind the fact getting the washing pole means a whole lot of spoilers but yeah who cares right? Afterall you're recommending gimped builds to new players because woohoo Star Wars!

Thank you Raide and Soulhouf.
So I will basicaly experiment as I should have the first time I started :)

It actually helps a lot.

I also did a second start kind of thingy since I got stuck in Anor Londo.

Turns out the whole hiding behind a shield routine sucked balls (at least for me) and I liked much better going YOLO twohanding weapons bigger than the toon.

Hey y'all, so I'm currently working on a new character, and thought I'd ask for some fresh perspective on where I can take it.

I've got 3 characters so far as follows.

1 - 180 level dragonslayer spear pyro sunbro build with avelyn in the off hand.
2 - 140 level demon's great axe / giant club wielding bruiser with Artorias' greatshield and Gough's Bow.
3 - 130 level magic user with moonlight sword, dark hand for novelty shield, and estoc for some occasional secondary stabby action.

I don't give a damn about SL 120. As long as it's fun and new to play.

So I'd like to go with some different but still potent and viable weapons. At the moment she's got a +5 black knight halberd, which I like, but still wouldn't mind branching out a bit.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

If I would mind dying, I wouldn't be playing this game, haha.

I was trying the pyromancer for the first time yesterday and leveled up my STA and END, also invested one or two levels in FAITH.
I can start game with new char and get up to bonfire in Undead Burg - near hollow archer and guys throwing fire bombs at me.

I won't grind that much and push toward taurus demon now...

I started out with the thief class and picked the divine blessing as a starting item.

Did I make a foolish decision with picking the divine blessing? It seems kind of pointless (as do most of the starting gifts).

I'm only an hour in, so do you guys recommend that I start over with a different class and pick the master key as my gift, or should I just roll with what I got?

Is starting gift that important in the grand scheme of things?

Really enjoying the game otherwise. Just stressing about my starting choices.

You'll get the master key later. Since it's your first run, it's not important. Keep going.

For non thieves, the Old Witch's Ring is a good starting gift, which opens up a a few bits of bonus dialogue for one NPC you otherwise can't understand without it. Hardly important, and I don't think it's really worth starting over.

Faith is pretty worthless unless you plan to cast miracles. And a lot of people do level it to have a heal spell that aren't otherwise casters.

But then you will have to carry a talisman to cast heal, and invest more in attunement to also have room to hold your pyro.

What is STA?

While you're in the Burg, you really want to grab the blue tearstone ring. This is a gift from FROM to new players. Though, in true-to-FROM-form, it is guarded by someone.... intimidating. lol.

The ring boosts you defense when your HP is low. It will save your butt on many occasions.

Also... I encourage you to read up on END and how equipment weight affects your movement speed and rolling. It's pretty simple, but there's still a little bit of easy math you have to do, to know why sometimes you can roll/walk fast, and sometimes you can't.

So with that said, is Thief a good class to keep going with? Seems like it would be beneficial to start over with a Knight or Warrior. I keep getting bodied and I'm only in the undead burg.

Thief is a finesse class, kind of. At least how it begins. It is set up for fast movement, high poison resistance, and critical hits. The shield you carry has a larger window to land a parry, and the bandit knife is an excellent weapon for crit damage. I can't remember at the moment, but I think it also does bleed. And here's the thing about bleed, very hard to do (imo) with anything other than a dagger you can spam.

You should be fishing for backstabs, trying to parry, etc. Another way to play that class in the early game, especially if you want to go head to head with the enemies, is to perfect the kick. Two hand your knife, kick the enemy to break their guard and then spam them with the knife. Nice thing about daggers is that each hit costs just a little bit of stamina. So you can spam it, unlike most other starting weapons.

When you play those low-poise finesse classes, especially without Havel's ring to allow heavy armor fast-rolling, you have to be really careful and look for the right windows/avenues of attack... because one hit might kill you. Little room for error. Those are really my favorite classes.

This might be too much info for you... but if you play a low-armor DEX character, lock-on system isn't really your friend. It's a crutch that really hurts this type of build in most instances. It's a thing to use only in certain situations. Anything ranged, obviously. Or certain enemies. But really, it's best to learn to play without it most of the time. At least for DEX characters.

edit: BTW, all thieves begin the game with the master key anyway! So choosing it as starting gift would be redundant!

The starting classes don't matter. You're in undead burg, so if you want a different weapon and shield, buy them from the merchant. A long sword (good balanced moveset) and a heater shield (high fire defense, 100% physical block) will give you what a warrior or soldier has to start with any way. All the starting armour and weapons are found or bought mostly very early on.

Hah, you've already got some of the best ones in there. Let me guess your 180 dragonslayer has 40/dex/strength/faith? If so you can use all weapons on that one already.

For crazy ass builds...

With a 66/80/80/80 str/dex/int/faith and the greatsword of artorias you will have an ar of 705 going two handed..

A 99 str/int enchanted club +5 will have an AR over 800.

Mind you they're both split damage affairs...

For something more sane a humble 28/40 strngth/dexterity Murakumo is great fun.

You can also go crazy with buffs, stacking NG+ and over... with enough slots and enough NG+ the amount of buffs is super high.

At the levels you're talking the sky's the limit.

Or you can vit gouge... 99 vitality, mask of the mother and favor ring will be a bit over 2,5k hps.

Whatever floats your boat dude =)

Thanks for showing your true colours....personally attacking me shows how much you really care about about the true reason dark souls is a special game, in that it can be unique and a novel experience, and that individual choices are all viable. I honestly dont think you are as experienced as you imply you are to be giving anyone advice. How did this start? oh yeah you couldn't go along with the idea that the furysword wasn't necessarily the best option for a dex build for a new player...it is a viable one, for select situations, and vets are even using it for pvp for something different to cjhallenge themselves, but I promptly listed 10 or so choices that would be possibly better options if someone was trying to be a dex build, (three other posters I respect agreed with the +15 route) and merely voiced that my personal favourite was the washing pole, and explained it was going to be a weaker damage option, but would be better in certain situations, albeit more so than the furysword. Clearly I have been the one advocating for options, and since you agree with the main idea in the bold above, the rest is BS personal attacks. Thanks for your brilliant support of my main point, minus the BS.

Incidentally, at level 66 my skywalker chick has helped all sorts of new players get through DLC, destroyed kalameet's tail, when the guy couldn't get it for days....hardly a gimped build and my guess is there are lots of people that will try it and like it. After 2000 hours of souls since 2009, all I do is help new players pretty much, and only when they ask for it....so crappy advice or not, my guess is I have been trying my best to help, and I'll rely on those I help to let me know how they appreciated the help thanks.

What you appear to be missing is that new players dont like to be new players, are looking for tips that will help them succeed despite being LTTP, but they hardly want to be patronized, and assumed to be idiots, or pansy jedi's, or who knows what other label you appear to like calling us?

Thanks guys.

Im a little confused, what was your purpose for investing in faith? You can turn a pyro into anything, but it would be best to choose between magic or faith, and StR or Dex. The reason is that you will likely want to try co-op and getting too spread out will raise your levels out of co-op range toward the end of the game. You are wise to limit your character leveling and see how far you can get simply improving your equipment. If you are not interested in the multiplayer than you can do whatever you want to raise your levels to beat the PVE enemies and bosses, but since it is possible at low level I suggest challenging yourself to see how well you can do figuring out tells and eluding the attacks, vs. simply overpowering the enemies.

What some interesting/challenging play through s that people would be interested in watching?I was thinking of doing a melee only play through.

low level, no upgrades, and speed runs are the most interesting to me....but these have lots of spoiling techniques for low level runs that you may want to try yourself first! ;) I was unlikely to have been the first to try a SL1 no upgrade run, but it was new to me when I tried it....almost rewarding as my first time through demon's when the crack started flowing. Overcoming seemingly difficult to impossible odds with strategy is what the crack is made of for me. but yeah, if you want to watch a str, dex, or qulity build go to town, melee only, why not?

This all started because you can't see beyond your own buff meta that only serves one purpose and that's a gimp build for NG for newcomers. The moment I put here a recommendation for an unbuffable weapon you went into a fury. I'm sorry your little jedi roleplay theater got butthurt, but there's other options out there.

And heck the +15 buff route puts way higher restrictions on someone's playthrough that requires setting them on a fixed path that getting a very nice weapon right at Anor Londo. You talk big about go everywhere, jump, explore but at the end of the day your recommendations are directing people strictly towards New Londo and then the Asylum.

And seriously, your badass example is a tailcut? That thing that's trivial with two players? Seriously? So have I done that, and so have many of us in this thread.

I'm done with this crap, this used to be a nice thread.

Is it really that awful? a powerful divine/occult/magic/enchanted has similar or even higher AR potential at only 40 FAI/INT.

It would appear so.

Don't worry, this is something the devs almost certainly didn't expect people to do on their first playthrough.
