Days Gone |Review Thread|

For these kinds of games, I don't think it really matters too much what the review scores are. You either like open world zombie killing games, or you don't.

Got the game and the freebies but sadly I could only play it later since I have a lot of stuffs to tend to. Also I didn't expect this game to sell a lot but damn there was a huge crowd buying the game when I got there.

I can't believe it's become "political" to complain about the very generic main character in this fairly generic game.

Yeah people on here should play it and get 85%+ trophies then post their trophies on here and genuinely (as if ) on here.

I actually think it looks quite good, but 50/ 60 hours of it, maybe not so. I'll wait till its cheap.

You don't expect reviewers to play the game in order to derive a valid opinion?

Never just meant it like that, just saying lots on here not played the game with near full trophies but giving their views on reviews/score, and its not always a good sign if you have to get trophies to enjoy games. I've completed a few and not got many trophies/ achievements and enjoyed the game, some I've got lots and not really enjoyed.

I figure he meant the story trophies that pop automatically when you reach certain points in the game.

Well this is it, what are they, i like trophies\achievements but as we know some can be tedious and some can give you extra replay and also make you enjoy the game more by making you do other stuff etc. It just depends what one's they haven't got and what you have to do.

Well he mentions some not finishing the game so it would be the story ones and not the more tedious ones.

He's a generic character design because he looks exactly like the gruff bearded protagonists in many many other games of this type. His whiteness isn't politically grating to me, it's just one of the many features that feel too familiar.

Had he been white and male but also, say, beanpole skinny with thick glasses, or elderly, or overweight, people wouldn't be calling the design generic.

And I think this is typical of the broader problem: it isn't just the design looking familiar, they discuss the character's backstory and that feels generic too, and then they discuss the game's world, and so does that, and so on. I don't see any flourishes of imagination here to differentiate Days Gone from other zombie games.

I literally can't remember a videogame with a biker protagonist outside of Gone Days.

The dude from The Last Of Us was far more "generic", to cite an example.

Hell, almost every black character or "strong womyn" trope are generic as fuck, yet they never complain about those, they always celebrate them.

Because yes, they can't hide their obvious political agenda.

The expected damage control from the usual suspects was expected.

Playstation fanboys have spent the last few years putting every ounce of weight behind reviews. If you didn't care for GoW, and mentioned it, you were immediately shut down with "Just look at the reviews. The majority of reviews said it's a masterpiece."

On the flip side, it you happened to enjoy something like State of Decay 2 or something, you got hit with "Look at the meta and review scores. It's trash... Just like all MS exclusives lately."

Now we're led to believe that this is all some sjw agenda? Or the reviewers must have not played the whole game, and got to the good parts?

Anyone who's been paying attention about this game could've seen this coming. It looked very 'meh' to begin with, and it reviewed as such. Sony fanboys can't question reviews now. You've been leaning on them far too hard, for far too long for that.

You know it can be two different things at the same time?

Maybe the game is not that great and also maybe some of the reviewers with an obvious political agenda wanted to trash it because it has a fucking white male as the protagonist.

I mean, I like the Xbox brand more than Sony. I'm not here to do damage control for Sony.

Full Throttle is one.

You could probably count them all on one hand though.

Reviewer give Day Gone low score now, so when they gave previous Sony game high score it mean those game is really good right?

Or when Sony game has high score: They paid the reviewer
When Sony game has low score: Reviewer is justice?

I haven't played it yet but given the mixed reviews it is possible it is a great game.

Kinda find it funny how a Sony game has average review scores and people have to bring up xbox, its ok to have an average game you know. game looks good just not as good as everybody thought

Always use Open Critic. They're way better than MetaCritic imo.
Not really as long as reviewers on these critic sides are lying and trying to push a political agenda like Gamespot did. It is not really different. Furthermore it maybe good for you but not the over reception of the game since metacritic scores are even integrated into in som contracts.

the only way to get rid of it is to remove scores or even better get rid of this games " journalism"

Just to remind everyone.. All games with under 80 mc:
  • Dying Light - 74 mc
  • Detroit Become Human - 78 mc
  • The Surge - 73 mc (I personally adored this game, despite its flaws)
  • Alien Isolation - 79 mc- (IGN, gamespot, and polygon all gave it ~6/10, and I consider this the best horror game ever made)
  • The Evil Within 2 - 76 mc (I consider this one of the best survival horror games ever made)
  • Don't Starve - 78 mc (This is LITERALLY MY FAVORITE GAME EVER MADE.)
I'm not saying this to defend Days Gone. I haven't played it yet. I'll play it later tonight or tomorrow and I'll share my thoughts. But I'm trying to say that your enjoyment of a game is going to rely heavily on your own personal affinity for its setting and themes and style. Reviewers may or may not sync up with you, and for every sub-80 game that I think is brilliant, there are also many games in the over 90 range that I think are literally terrible.

That number is not everything. It's very difficult to sum up a complex piece of art and technology with one number. "

This is not the problem with this game. the problem is that many of these very low reviews want to push an agenda and scored it ow because of it. It hurts the overall reputation. I fucks the developer who invested so much time in it etc. They straight up lie to justify it and they talk how upset they are that there are only white Zombies etc. They call out "sexist" scenes without context like the wedding park which is actually a real thing in this biker culture. They do not even finish the game and then lie about Deacon not developing as a character etc.

If I were Bent I would call them out and accuse them of libel. There is already enough evidence to support this claim.

WHAT? Dying Light is a solid 9/10 in my book. The atmosphere, the gameplay, the graphics, all outstanding. These reviewers must have been high, or not, because if the were the might have enjoyed it more.

That would make everything worse I think. Once the internet has made up its mind, you better not argue against it.

Ill ad Dead Star (70/100): https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/dead-star

One of my favorite games ever.

These reviewers right now getting a lot of backlash already which is a good thing. video reviews like on IGN getting downvoted etc. gamer are not standing up for this bullshit. No one is saying it is a masterpiece but openly lying about mechanics, story, characters is not ok.

I personally would applaud the to go against this tyranny of critics

Crackdown 3 "bombed" and got slaughtered in reviews and guess what? Fucking loved that game. I guess i never really understood why anyone would let someone else tell them what to play. The whole concept is fucking stupid. Hey look at me i dont like this game neither should you... but its 2019 and people continue to be sheep.

Not posting ACG's review is doing it wrong.. :p

Love ACG's reviews!

That being said, I watched that review and have played the first 2 hours so far. My experience so far is good in general, one thing notably is the game looks beautiful, the general lighting effects are insane. There are a few bugs I picked up straight away.. For example I was in a tunnel and you have a flashlight, if you turn the camera around, the flashlight does not follow and is shining out of your back, that definitely broke my immersion lol. Not to be a Sony fanboy but this still shits on the recent exclusives Xbox has been putting out. I would rate it a solid 8/10 so far imo, I'm partial to the theme of the game though.

ACG mentioned wait for sale or deep deep sale. I agree with his reviews generally but I would say it's still worth a buy if money is not tight.

Played through first mission and I'm kinda enjoying it. I suck at driving the bike and fell like a couple of times, also days gone looks really2x good for an open world game, probably one of the best looking post apocalyptic game I've seen in a while. First con I can say about the game was the shooting, it doesn't really feel accurate and sometimes it feels like I was shooting the air and I'm still hitting them.

Retirement home or Fat camp zombie game would be awesome!

Xbox exclusive scores average = 'Worst game eva', ;'lolz Xbox', 'Xbox still has no games lol'

Playstation exclusive scores average = 'Who listens to reviews anyway lol', 'Stupid reviewers played the unpatched game', 'Did the reviewers even play the game?, i dont think they did'.

Never change Gaf, never change.
Sony fanboys in full damage control, relax. Not everything Sony shits out is gold.

If reviews cant be trusted, we can also discount Gow, hzd, spiderman etc, 3rd person cinematic with hyped gfx by reviewers.

Always use Open Critic. They're way better than MetaCritic imo.

Their calling days gone bland.
They must be lying. DS, and ghost of tsuhima could turn out the same but keep hyping. Tluo2 could be another UC4.

just watched the video and I will follow his recommendation. I will wait for a sale, but I'll bite eventually. Main reason for this is, that I love the lighting/graphics and the general mood of the game. Even from the videos you can tell that the game has pretty muted feel to it I would say. Many titles nowadays go the opposite way and make everything over the top so this change of mood and pace is welcome.

I doubt it, but I hope the devs get a second chance with this franchise. The potential is there I think.

72 on both MC and OC tells me one thing, the game might actually not be bad but sure made people have mixed feeling about it.
From what I have seen so far it looks like a 75-80% game which is totally fine but we are dealing here with 5 and 6 by major gaming sites who lie about events in the game, who lie about mechanics and the story overall. And this especially hurts the developer who did for the first time a real open world AAA game and these agenda driven bloggers destroy their reputation and future with this bullshit.

Days Gone is pure joy for me. Maybe cause I am a Walking Dead and Resi Fan?
