Apparently the guy who makes these videos is quite connected and says he has information that DC publishing is going to be shut down and the rights to the comics will be auctioned / leased.

Sad that DC cannot get their quality or sales on track, especially when you see manga and anime beginning to really take off. Will be terrible if this actually happens.

The guy that made the video, made some comic through crowdfunding and apparently it was very successful, I don't know the ins and outs but there seems to be an audience there if you serve them.

I enjoy comics. I buy digital comics here and there. I even bought a 10-inch kindle just to read them. I can't tell you the last time I bought a physical comic though. Probably the better part of 10 years.

Where I am, there's no where to buy them. However every time I go away, I'll pick up a handful of hardback collections or whatever tickles my fancy. When I was on the comic books subreddit I remember that being quite big.

I Am Not Starfire is one graphic novel/TPB that hasn't even released (July 2021) yet and so can't be properly judged yet. You can judge the art work (which I think is cute) but that's about it. Their YA graphic novels are not their main focus, it's a subline for authors and artists to experiment with ideas, not aimed at their primary audience.
"Chinese Batman" is also part of the YA graphic novel line. Again, not their primary focus, not their primary target audience, an experimental line where authors/artists can experiment with random ideas.

DC has released hundreds/thousands of floppies/TPB's/HC's/omnis/absolutes over the past 5+ years. Mentioning 2 TPB's does not in any way, shape or form signify that DC comics are "infested" with "SJW" crap.

The industry as a whole is changing. Floppies have diminished in popularity as digital has become more popular. Also the collected edition market is skyrocketing, at least for Marvel it is as they know what they are doing and are giving the fans what they want. DC publishing are fucking up the collected market as AT&T have no idea what they are doing. We are still waiting for the Scott Snyder Batman omnibus volume 2 for example.

Manga has been beating them for like 10+ years now too as I recall as well, so the downward decline has been a long time thing. Manga and Comics aren't the same market and don't have much if any appeal between their demographics at all either. It's just raw mismanagement in a declining industry with the inability to pivot to more lucrative formats and make it successful.

I'm not sure what you mean by her replacing Nightwing, Nightwing had his own actual comic which led into the Grayson comic. Do you mean because Bluebird was Batman's new side kick? Robin and Nightwing grew beyond being his sidekick, why would you keep them as his sidekick forever?

Wife and I recently watched Demon Slayer and will see the movie next week. The show is OK but it's not amazing. I did not like how Tanjiro just randomly got new powers or abilities without any explanation to help kill his enemies. The structure of the show was really weird too, it ends with some downtime and lighthearted jokey training rather than building up to anything significant. The movie seems to be about a train heist, OK!

One Punch is fun, never watched One Piece. Bigger tits and bikini's doesn't = better characters.

It's the same market though, it makes no sense that one product is pleasing the audience and selling a lot and the other one doesn't. That just means it's getting mismanaged, whatever the cause may be. A lot of the readers seem angry at the SJW crap being inserted in them, so I'm speculating that could be the reason. Can't imagine a lot of people want to read stories about the fat emo girl or about those new superheroes they wanted to do, what was it? Safe Space or something like that?

I can't say whether I Am Not Starfire and Gotham High are "SJW" as I haven't read them and don't intend to read them. To me, having a Chinese Batman, gay Alfred and a fat daughter of Starfire doesn't automatically make something SJW though. I'm happy to watch/read anything that has fat/skinny/white/black/brown/yellow/straight/gay/bi characters. I'm not sure why it would be an issue to be honest. You don't have to be gay, bi or fat to relate to a character. It's about life experiences, that's what you relate to.

It's the same market though, it makes no sense that one product is pleasing the audience and selling a lot and the other one doesn't. It's the same format but they're not appealing to the same crowds at all. It's like Romcoms and action flicks are both movies but the number of people willing to go to each type of film is vastly different. Comics are largely seen as super heroes only so there's a limited number of people interested compared to manga where it has titles of every genre widely available. Then there's style differences in narrative, presentation, humor, etc. The Social Justice stuff has only been a very recent pivot in the big picture of the comics industry and it's the topic for a lot of the old diehards that are still around. It could be argued that it's an issue in regards to content being produced right now but it's totally a boogeyman for the industry's health as a whole. Shit's been on decline long before they tried it. It hasn't helped at all so it's easy to blast the change in direction but it's missing the forest for the trees. I think quite a bit of it is cringe too but it's definitely not the reason comics are dying.

If there's any reason that comics are on the way out, it's because Americans just don't like reading. The fact that Marvel has been doing amazingly well for the last decade with their movies but that hasn't translated that to more comics sales should be indicative for that, lol

Well there's a few different things here, diversifying is a thing and comics should have done that a long time ago, instead of keeping the medium strictly about superheroes. Now, the medium has been in decline, yet superheroes have never been more popular, why is that? You mention things being on a decline, but I have been hearing about woke stuff making their way into the medium, as a way of legitimising whatever woke thing they want to do in the bigger mediums.

If the comic book industry is made up of die hards, don't you think that making everything "woke" had an effect? It's hardly surprising that an industry that depends on its diehard fans would suffer as a result. It's like the latest Terminator movie, it was complete woke garbage, and yet when that failed, everyone involved blamed it on the franchise.

I mean, even if Terminator isn't the strongest IP nowadays, the movie would have pulled much better numbers if the newest movie hadn't told the fanbase to fuck off because only female, androgynous characters and asexual Terminators are allowed.

And again, why is Manga doing so much better than comics? And it's not because the variety of content is super huge, the biggest sellers are still stories of people punching/slashing each other in creative ways. Maybe it's because the content is focused on telling interesting stories rather than pushing the narrative on which one is the latest superhero to have their race switched or their sexual orientation changed.

Bluebird I don't know much about (didn't read Batman Eternal but vaguely remember her in Snyder's Batman) but based on image search there aren't many images of her and she seems to have given up her super hero job by the start of Rebirth. I'm not sure what you mean by her replacing Nightwing, Nightwing had his own actual comic which led into the Grayson comic. Do you mean because Bluebird was Batman's new side kick? Robin and Nightwing grew beyond being his sidekick, why would you keep them as his sidekick forever?

Wife and I recently watched Demon Slayer and will see the movie next week. The show is OK but it's not amazing. I did not like how Tanjiro just randomly got new powers or abilities without any explanation to help kill his enemies. The structure of the show was really weird too, it ends with some downtime and lighthearted jokey training rather than building up to anything significant. The movie seems to be about a train heist, OK!

One Punch is fun, never watched One Piece. Bigger tits and bikini's doesn't = better characters.
