Dead Island |OT| Island of the Dead

Want to play, but I've been on a gaming fast the last few weeks. Other than Minecraft. I have Fallout: NV and DX:HR sitting there, only half beaten, waiting for me to officially "return".

Then Dead Island I think. Maybe any of the bugs left will be sorted out mostly by then.

UPDATE #15 22/09/2011: v1.94 beta, out now for the brave! I finally managed to track down the crash problem that was causing issues for so many people.

This update also fixes a crucial bug with the save game backup feature – it is strongly recommended you update to v1.94 beta if you use this feature and please, DO NOT use any of the save backups you’ve created with versions of the tool before 1.94 beta because they won’t work!

Fixed a critical bug with the save game and backup feature. This now also backs up the “remotecache.vdf” file, which contains important size and timestamp data.

Fixed a bug that would cause Dead Island Helper to crash on non-Administrator accounts and accounts without application compatibility enabled.

Myself and three others got the 4pack. I think as long as the netcode holds up, this should be a lot of fun. The only thing I'm really not thrilled about so far are the characters.

They are a far cry from the personalities and likability of the Left 4 Dead characters for sure. But they are not completely devoid of their own charm and humor even when unintentional.

I can't seem to join anyone on the PS3 version, everyone's playing the 1.0 version of the game. I didn't even know it was possible to go online without updating. Other people have joined me, though, although none have had microphones and that's kind of an important thing to have in this game.

Hey, managed to join a game and got kicked. Make your game private if you don't want people joining, shithead.
Fuck you we can't do it when we already started it. Stop joining random games and get friends!

I want it to be known that this is a joke...

I joined a random yesterday, being my first time trying co-op, it was terrible.

Reminded me why I never co-op with randoms.

Co-op with randoms are only good for achievement hunting, level whoring and griefing.

On another note, this game seriously needs an option to let characters respec their skills. Early level skills don't always become useful at level 40+

Wow. I think I may cry.

First time during an escort mission, the person dies...
"Load last save or Quit to menu?" I choose Load. (Done this previously without issues) "Error. YOUR SAVE FILE SEEMS TO BE CORRUPTED!"

WHAAAAAAAAT?!
48 HOURS of game time, chapter 14...ALL FUCKING GONE. First playthrough. Took my time finding everything for trophies.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck :(

Same thing happened to me. Had a level 42 too. But, it turned out to be a blessing. I got to respec and it only took me 3 days to get caught back up with everything I had. Just beat it last night.

Start over. It's worth it.

You can start a new game with the same character type, which lets you choose what chapter to start on. Start on a later chapter and you'll start out with however many levels you had at that time so you can respec, but with all your items and mods wiped out. >.>

The final part is one of the most twisted, frustrating tests of willpower to NOT throw your controller across the room and bodyslam it. Fuck that on SP. Sheesh.

I just got really frustrated at one a certain point: walking through town, get rushed by about 3 infected, take them down, hack through the 3 walkers behind them, get smacked down by a thug. Respawn, get rushed by 3 infected, take them down, get surrounded and killed by a group of infected. Respawn, get rushed by three infected, die. Respawn, get rushed by one, two, three, four (headshot, headshot, headshot, crit) and then 3 MORE infected and die.

Respawn, get rushed by 5 infected in a nice line, die, throw controller against wall.

You're not really meant to head into some areas alone, one of the loading screen tips says as much.

Yeah, in the city especially, there are zones where Infected just keep respawning. Just remember that nothing can catch up to you while you're sprinting.

Im pretty sure thats car parts...the only place ive found them now is at a merchant.

I found engine parts in the trash cans at the lifeguard tower, may have been a bug but I found three of them at once. Didn't know WTF to do with them.

No, it wasn't the quarantine zone it was right outside the
water pump station
. It was obviously a glitch or just completely random luck, I just now have a very wonky controller because of it.

I still love the shit out of this game. I would advise anyone with a short temper though (I thought I had a reasonable acceptance for shitty programming, apparently not) to just take the game in slow strides. It will piss you off, but once you master the mechanics, and have hopefully picked a character that suits your style, it is a fucking awesome experience.

Posted on Dead island facebook:

The patch for PS3 is available for European gamers. The patch will fix the save game features and increase the functionality of the co-op game. We will let you know as soon as the patch for the US is approved.

Damn man, how do you play with that FOV? Cool weapon though. Haven't found that one yet.

I've never really tried it any other way to be honest, I like the extra peripheral vision. It's like playing as the alien in an AvP game =D

Today I made my first skull item, the Mindblowing Military Knife. It does very little damage, and only requires level 24 to equip. However, any regular zombie you slice with it has their mind blown. Literally.

To celebrate I made a video of me taking it for a spin:

I cant remember if this weapons' mod is obtained by the purple skull.
I'd like to make note: theres a skull location in "Alicia's House" i think its purple skull. but this mod is MISSABLE if you complete the quest to find her b4 returning the skull. I tried going there and the door was shut, meaning it wouldnt let me in..

Same, im currently playing my friends copy. Cant wait to coop w my roomates!

Beat the game last night, total time was 52hours :) though I've played heaps and heaps of co-op in other peoples games. I'm going to try and make it to lvl 50, will play some more co-op next week. Such an awesome game, I think they should continue the 'Island' franchise and make 'Dino Island" etc. Would be awesome if there were Raptors hunting you across the island.

Found a copy today damn I love this game. Is co-op just unusable on the ps3? I'd love to at least try it out some. I've been putting my saves in the cloud every half hour to be safe.

If your in europe they released a new patch yesterday to help co op, I do believe it works just not amazingly well.

Yeah it's that one. I actually got it by accident, just happened to get the skull then pop by her place shortly after.

I quit the game in the hotel area
to get the truck
. But when I try to continue the next morning the game won't start properly and crashes after the loading screen. Tried everything I could imagine. Now fuck that game. Too buggy. Will sell it.

Yeah, I got in a few sessions last night. It worked really well for the 30 minutes I played. No one I know is cool enough to buy this so I went random. No voice chat either, just ran around killing Z'z and doing a few quests. Lots of fun but I hope they patch it up for saves and some scripting errors I had.

OMFG. After 70 hrs of playing I finally reach level 50. It was the last achievement that I needed. And it glitched out and did not unlock. FML.

Am I the only one who turned off the enemy health and damage dealt right way? That crap is so intrusive in this game.

Well after 23 hours playing through the whole campaign with my girl friend and another good friend, finishing the story and 98%+ of the side quests, I'd say it was a damn good game, and hardly encountered any bugs. The quests were damn fun for coop, even if a majority was fetch related, but that didn't ruin how the quests mostly were different from each other in that respect and mostly were damn fun all the time. The best part of this journey had to be how we did our own things and quests while exploring the vast size of the Island, it's definitely one of the biggest games I've played in that respect, and the locations and variety, from its many nods to such classic zombie films and games (re animator, George Romero's zombie classics, Resident Evil, etc.), I will summarise this as one graceful package for the zombie and horror fan. The atmosphere without a doubt gets my universal praise and a thumbs up for how fun the game play was and building up your character. This is one of the few games you can feel justified in paying because of how much content is packed in for you and the potential for replaying (new game+ too!) and what DLC content can bring to this fun zombie madness. This is a solid 9/10 for me overall. I could see the developers trying to hit that note with what the CGI trailer showed but I can see the sequel delivering that powerful emotional impact further, given the insane money this game is cashing in to the publisher/developer. Kudos to Techland for doing a good job (I wasn't there for the first week of the bugs issue but got quickly resolved) on making a potential rich IP. Hopefully Capcom can take some notes of the games rich features for Dead Rising.

Completed the game yesterday. Level 33 in 17 hours, had to return before I got charged for another rental game. Purna is kind of like the Siren in Borderlands, or has a close feel to her. It's hard to feel REALLY strong in this game, but I could tell the skill points were doing something based on how fast Rage charged.
why did they kill Jin after making the player do so much for her? I think Yerna was the better character to keep around, but damn. Especially after she got raped. This game had so many dark themes in it, I kind of see a lot of it going under the radar.

I think I'm done with the game for now, though I really did play a lot of it. For the record the XP needed to level from 49 to 50 is ~300k which is ~2000 regular zombies which need slaying.

After playing for several hours in the city, I've started to cool off on this game. I miss the open, lush environments of the Beach/Jungle area. I miss driving around and exploring the big and pretty environments. Not only is the city dreary and plain in comparison, but most of the environments are narrow and the sewers are a bitch. It doesn't help that the zombie count is much higher, I can't avoid them as easily. Technical issues aside, I had a blast with the first act, but it's starting to feel a bit tedious in the city.

I've been playing solo for the past few hours, so that's probably part of my problem. At least with a partner or two the zombie density won't be as annoying.
