so when exactly is this out for greenmangaming people?

I guess it depends on region but you can register your key right now on Steam and have it preloaded. I'm in the US and I did that yesterday.

I liked the ending paragraph of the TeamXbox review:
Some of you might play the game and wonder why I gave it a 9/10. You might look at the faults that I’ve outlined and declare “that list is worth more than a one point deduction!” However, look at it like this. I don’t believe in a system where you have to deduct certain percentages of points per hang-up or fault you find in a game. For me it’s the overall experience while playing through that determines the final score. Yes, there were faults that I discovered throughout my experience with the game. However, every game has faults, and I viewed this through the lens of a gamer. Did I enjoy this game? Absolutely. Did it scare the crap out of me at times? 100%. Was there a real feeling of survival horror (as opposed to just jumping-scares) that has been sadly lacking from other contemporary zombie games? You bet. So looking at the total package that was brought to the table here, this game is too fun to play and too unique an experience to be really nit-picky on the things that didn’t go exactly as I’d rather them go. As I write these final thoughts, there is only one review out there on the web, and if the rest of the press agrees with that reviewer’s thoughts, my review will likely be one of the higher-scoring ones out there. That’s fine though; I truly stand behind this score. Hopefully you will pick this game up and experience one of the most engaging experiences I’ve had with my 360 in quite some time. This is a game that needs to be in a gamer’s collection, so try to make it happen if you can, guys.

Damn it! I was going to Gamefly this, but reading these types of comments is really pushing me to the brink here. You see, I can tell just from reading this that this individual thinks like I do when it comes to games. When a game simply provides an engaging and fun experience, I don't give a rat's ass about tech issues and little niggling flaws here and there. If it is fun, it's fun... bottom line. That is the distinct and clear impression that I am getting from Dead Island. In which case, it is looking more and more like a solid buy that I would enjoy replaying.

In fact, this game marks my gamefly debut.

Seems an appropriate match. Should be fun till heavy hitters come in oct./nov.

I don't have a console but I wouldn't consider this a "rental" type of game due to the co-op and replayability. You'll easily spend tens of hours in this if you enjoy the game and the co-op and skill trees will definitely give you some replay value. I believe there's also an arena horde mode. Rentals for me would be like Bulletstorm and other games with short campaigns and no good online component.

To keep the game interesting and challenging? I prefer enemies to scale with me rather than have mobs of enemies who are challenging on in specific areas only.

It's the exact same as playing a table top rpg, you will constantly scale your game to your players level so that it keeps a challenge going, you don't just let them stomp on everyone and then choose when and where the challenge is.

"rpg mechanics" should not mean being able to grind to crush your opponents.

If the game scales like Fallout 3 (being able to plough through low level enemies yet still having to struggle a little against the bigger enemies when you're high level) then that's fine. But if it's like Oblivion where previously low level enemies suddenly have much higher stats when you're of a higher level then it kills all the enjoyment.

What's the point of having RPG-mechanics when you're level 50 and still need the same number of hits as a level 1 to kill the same zombie? You might as well take out all the skill trees and make it an open world action game where the enemies and your hitpoints don't change at all.

From the reviews I've read and videos I've seen, it really looks more like Oblivion than Fallout 3.

I don't like to buy games day one generally as price seems to drop quickly. I bought deus ex which came with a 20 dollar credit from Amazon. Maybe I'll just use it on this. Kind of want to see what the Giant Bomb guys have to say.

Day 1 fixes:
Fixed map synchronization when player joins during map load.
Fixed saving player re-spawn position when playing in co-op mode.
Fixed occasional inability to complete sidequests in Laboratory.
Improved enemy awareness (zombies).
Fixed occasional bug with NPC's hands bend (IK)
Fixed spawning enemies in some quests after joining co-op game.
Fixed showing locations on invisible NPCs.
Fixed potential path blocker when quest "Knockin' on heaven's door" was completed before talking to Dominik during the "On the air" quest.
Fixed displaying gather rings near some doors.
Fixed enemy reaction to fire.
Fixed enemies' health and stamina bars in co-op.
Fixed filtering of games in lobby.
Volume of pickup's engine has been increased.
Fixed a number of issues causing game instability.
Fixed the switching of maps upon player death.
Fixed enemies unable to reach the player on some arenas.
Thrown items cannot be picked up by co-op players for five minutes.
Items from freshly opened containers cannot be picked up by other players for five seconds to prevent theft.
Fixed animation glitch when trading with team members.
More than one player can use a ladder at the same time.
Fixed stomping execution animation when target's attacked by a second player.
Fixed the infinite respawning of shooting enemies.
Fixed not hiding menu if players die inside a vehicle.

Added information about players requesting pause in co-op.
Fixed A.I. animation glitch after fast-traveling or using a map portal.
Added distinction between quest checkpoints and other types of saves.
Fixed bug causing all inventory to disappear.
Fixed reloading and kicking. After the clip goes in, the reload is a success.
Purna can gain bonus rage from both "Grim Inspiration" and "Inspiring Kick".
Only "Walker" type enemies increase the extra XP of the "Combo" skill from Xian's Survival skill tree.
Health regeneration is disabled during grabs.
Focus on items in shops not changing after selling or buying.
More HP for NPCs in escort missions.
Butcher enemies won't spawn at all during escort missions (hooray!)
Fixed tracking after loading checkpoint.
Increased minimum vertical distance to count a waypoint as passed for NPCs (they no longer wander back-and-forth).
Source.

Game is pre-loading on Steam. Couldn't pass it up for $30 day one, especially when I have five friends who are buying it too. Definitely want to play as the Asian chick, she's gonna kick ass. Hopefully there aren't too many bugs on the PC version, really looking forward to this.

I think it's more like Fallout, where it's not taking any longer than it did the first time against the typical zombie (i think they're called Walkers here) despite them leveling up with me.

I know some of the movies I'm watching today! (Yes and the gag is most of those are no the original titles)

No Nights of Terror? But that was one of the best Italian zombie flicks
It's hard to argue with what he's got, though. We should be lucky if Dead Island has anything as inspired as the shark vs. zombie fight in Zombie.

One of the finest scenes in Western cinema!

I know I have a love affair for Bruno Mattei too!

Hell, I like all types of Zombie movies even Zombie 3 and Zombie 4!

If I really want to be evil I'd tell people to watch those ones too...that said I love watching them, so I'd still consider it a good deed. :)

how can ign and joytiq be talking about the same game? Joystiq made it sound like there was no redeeming qualities to this game.
Maybe McElroy couldn't get the Zombie Fish

Well then! After reading the reviews it looks like I'll be picking this one up tomorrow. Now I just need to convince (force) one of my buddies to pick it up so we can play co-op.

So is it becoming clear that there was some sneaky payment sent out to some reviewers?

The game is overall being received better than expected.

How much can Deep Silver truly afford?

Mixed reviews can not be real, no way, no such thing has ever happened before!

can Deep Silver survive if Dead Island flops?
I bet it would hurt them bad. They're not exactly a well known publisher, and they've been marketing the hell out of this on all the big sites. Gamestop's gotten tons of ads, so has Joystiq, IGN, etc. I don't know what it's like in Europe, but their biggest game over here would be like... Risen.

Things start to get fishy when most of the good reviews are released early and the not so good reviews are held back.

I hope the game does well though. Would be a shame to see them go down. They're not very well known and as zoner said, they've put 110% into marketing and making the game.

I'm betting this sells really well.

Oh, of all the games coming out this week. It'll win by a good bit, I'm sure. I say this as a huge Space Marine hyper. There hasn't been a 'big' co-op game in a while, there hasn't been a big L4D game in a while, and this will appeal to the COD Zombies crowd, the Dead Rising crowd, the Borderlands and the L4D crowd. Mainstream-wise at least.
