I don't know if it's been posted yet, but Giant Bomb finally put their review up. Totally deserving of that score. Definitely a sleeper hit.

I love this game... now if my co op partner would man up and play with me!

Just finished it. 22 hours, did the entire thing in 2 player coop with a friend of mine. Did every single side quest we could find.

The Good:
+ The world is fantastic. It's huge, there are tons of places to explore, lots of cool shortcuts and verticality to it, and it looks great.
+ Graphically the game can be really quite stunning at times on PC.
+ The combat is fun, the various weapons all feel different and the game does a good job of feeding new enemy types throughout the game.
+ The RPG mechanics are solid, the skill trees all have good things in them while forcing you to make some real choices about how to develop your character.

The Bad:
- Lots of little bugs constantly pick at the experience. Like randomly items will split into separate stacks, or become unusable entirely. For instance my friend bought a whole ton of metal scrap so he could make himself ammo when necessary, but partway in the game just stopped recognizing that he had any preventing him from making ammo and of course wasting all the money he spent on it.
- Pop in is pretty bad for enemies and the random spawns often don't work right. I had enemies spawn directly in front of me on several occasions.
- Weapon categories aren't balanced very well. Like blade weapons do more then double the damage equivalent blunt weapons do which is annoying if you're the blunt weapons guy.
- The story is garbage. It feels like the cutscenes were made separately from the game and they folks making the cutscenes were working from an outdated script. Things didn't mesh up right, many things outright made no sense.

Overall I quite liked the game. It certainly could have used some more time in the oven to polish up the various problems, but in the end the complaints are all small things that don't do much to tarnish what is one of the best games to come out this year. Well worth it.

Managing firearms and ammo in this game is... retarded. :/

It's hard to believe how many separate groups of people seem to be playing this game. I can't think of a single game on 360 that has gotten so much support with coop gamers. Sorta shocked really, I expected this one to completely bomb in a month with R3 and gears 3.

Never underestimate a game with Zombies in it.

well it looks like my save is fucked.
Failed the Devastator main quest (where you drive Jin to the jungle) by fucking around too much at the workbench and the get back to vehicle warning timed out.
. Main mission timed out and when I hit load last save it brought me back to the fucking basement of
City Hall
. so once i make it back to the resort by walking through the town, I end up back near the gas station that has all of the juice. The get back to vehicle meter then starts to count down and I fail the mission again. I cannot make it back to the vehicle in time and there is no other shortcut to the lifeguard station. I guess i will have to hope i can use co-op to correct it.

So do you eventually find tons of ammo or something?

In act 2 now and my gf is playing the gun girl and greatly regretting it as we have found one little thing of 12 bullets so far and one gun

I keep killing guys and picking up their guns... but you can't use the ammo from one gun in a different gun... and you can't take the ammo out of a gun. So now I have like five shitty guns with ammo in them, and the one gun I have upgraded has no ammo. It's so fucking retarded.

:/

Well they seem to be done for coop in mind, in single player its annoying as your weapon does less damage on average. The trade off with blunt weapons is that they generally have more Force attached to them so they are better for knocking enemies down while blades don't knock down or push enemies back as well.

Around the middle of act 2 at the
police station
you can find blueprints for the pistol and shotgun ammo. Blueprint for rifle ammo is in act 3. These basically let you print ammo easily after you stock up on their ingredients, bleach and scrap metal I believe, from vendors. Just quit and reload to randomize their stocks. Make sure she upgrades the skill that lets you carry more ammo.

Sharp weapons have more normal damage but much lower durability and force compared to blunts. Blunts can do more damage than sharp if the enemy's stamina is zero and they're flat on the ground because it will then add the force value to the total damage.

I think you should be able to take ammo out of a weapon before you discard or sell it... this was a ridiculously basic oversight by the devs and I'm holding it against them.

I'm adding it to the shitlist.

Now that I'm in Act 3 I feel a little better about the game again. The city just pissed me off. One question; Where the fuck are Mugambe's wife and kid for the quest "In Cold Blood"?

Like a dumbass, I mistakenly ordered the PC version from Kmart.

Out of desperation, I ask: Can I run this on my laptop?

Specs:
Q720 i7 CPU at 1.6 GHz
nVidia GT 330m graphics
4GB RAM

Any hope? Thanks in advance.

I have similar specs (Q720 i7 CPU at 1.6 GHz, 8gb ram, 310m). You'll run this game with no problem. I'm playing at 1366x768, everything high (except for shadows), forced AA and v-sync. I'm getting steady frames, never drops under 45fps outdoors, 60fps indoors.

Blade weapons do more damage, but have less force and durability.

Funnily enough I was just bitching about this yesterday; loaded up my game and I was magically halfway through this quest, even though I hadn't even started it. lol.

Dropping a gun empties the chamber and gives you the ammo. But yeah, kinda ridiculous that you have to drop a weapon to salvage its ammo before selling it.

I'm having customers call and ask if they could come in and return this game for store credit. What is going on? Is this game seriously that glitchy and bugged? No joke, three different people have asked our store the past two days.

Thank you... dude seriously. I had no idea, and probably would have never figured that out. Now I don't have to carry around all these damn guns!

This is the only game I've ever purchased where I feel completely justified in thinking I deserve a 100% refund.

Game (at least the PS3 version) should never have been released in its condition.

That said, I'm still playing it, because it's awesome when it works.

It's unpolished to the point of being frustrating (if you run into the right glitches), yes.

Ambitious and fun, but very buggy. Typical traits of Eastern-European mid-budget games. (Not Techland though, usually). It's clearly their most ambitious and complex title so far. Bethesda would've been proud.

Ah, thanks! Sure enough, I just played the first 20 minutes and it runs great. I'm staying at 720p so I'm sure that helps.

Now I just need to get rid of the screen tearing and I'll be content.

This is gonna be fun!

Edit: I'm also running GameBooster 3.0 to shut down all non-game functions in the PC. Couldn't hurt!

Just played like 2.5 hours with some random over the internet (PC). Really fun session, got most of Act 2 done. Game becomes like 10 times better during co-op, and its fairly good solo aswell!

The more I play this game the more I love it. I must say that I prefer it solo, though.

I prefer solo for right now, too. I just don't have time this week for any coop sessions. Solo is for mood, coop is for fun. I finally got tweaks working with my stupid version of the game. The latest Dead Island Helper allows for customization of your settings folder. For the minority of the people that your settings are actually in the game dir, rejoice.

There are a few spawn areas with guys carrying guns/ammo.
One spot always has 3-4 guys in the lower centre of the town, they are barricaded in with zombies attacking from both sides. It's just down and right from the guy that asks you to broadcast the messages.

My buddies save on 360 became corrupted with 36 lvls down the drain. What fucking bullshit.

Personally I've been backing up my saves just in case such an event were to happen to me.

Same shit just happened to me. Game froze up during a co-op match and then when I try to load that file again my game starts loading for a bit only to end up hard locking my system.

25hrs down the shitter. Thanks techtards.

Where are you act wise/level wise now?

Amazon.co.uk has one copy for Xbox 360 left. And it's going for £63 ($99 USD).

Utter madness.

I went to roughly 15 different stores around Belfast looking for a 360 copy yesterday to no luck. Ended up ordering from GAME's site last night. They might still have some left.

I'm about to start this game on PC, playing with a 360 controller on analog fight mode since I hear it's the shit, already did some tweaks from this video...

Any tips/recommendations?

I did as soon as I first entered the city. Punks will drop enough ammo to fill it up to the max and guns 1 shot kill them easily. Then i moved to a Deagle which uses even less ammo to kill them. Then I got given a Magnum that uses pistol bullets. I've also got an M4 fully upgraded and a special 590 shotgun.

Plus her fury move is great for bosses and crowds.

So the Chinese girl can`t even earn/equip firearms?....I did the escort Omar quest and the reward was the revolver,it was red because it`s level 10 required and I was level 9 but it`s not in my inventory anywhere...or maybe I was full and the game glitched or something???

Also,I switched over to analog attack but I can`t get it to work, how do you use it?

Still on the resort area and I`m dying quite often in this game, playing solo most of the times....I left the game co-op whith 3 slots open for 2 hours last evening and no one joined...

You can use guns as Xian.

Been going back and forth about buying this game since launch, but just decided that until they add all the graphical options that people have to edit .pak files to change, I'm staying away from this game :(

It's not worth getting VAC banned. Until a Valve employee comes out and says that copying the files in the .pak files to your Documents folder and editing them is totally legit and not VAC-bannable, I just won't believe that it is. "Probably" isn't good enough for my Steam account with ~$2k worth of games on it, with Valve games that I would love to play online still.

Love this game to bits.

About the analogue vs digital control, I spent the first 15 hours with analogue controls, but I struggled with the large mobs in Act II and so decided to try out digital... I'm never switching back, digital is the way it's meant to be played (at least as Sam B).

Why in the world is everyone trying to play this as a shooter?!?

The melee combat is really quite satisfying and gruesome.

Purna's rage mode lets her pull out a gun with infinite ammo(for the duration of her rage) her real benefit though comes with playing her in co-op. Several of her skills are supportive and give party buffs.

Gun ammo is more plentiful in the latter half of the game plus you can find mods that let you craft ammo.

I feel like I've been in Act 2 forever. Not that there's that many things to do, but I keep getting killed since even basic zombies do a lot of damage to me now and I only play solo, and there's a lot of running around the pretty large city area.

And the (location spoiler, just in case)
sewers
are AWFUL, like they are in every game that has one. Long winding corridors with multiple ways to get lost in and no map, UGH.

Not being able to circle strafe while in melee combat really kills the analog controls.

Yeah, I really miss that maneuverability factor when compared to kb/m or digital. However, you can still circle strafe when locked on or by partially holding down the trigger. It's still not near as effective, though.

I switched back to M+KB (more comfortable for me), but the game is lagging/stuttering while turning sometimes. Switching back to controller and the problem is gone. It is not a mousespeed issue as I tried different settings with controller and mouse. :/

edit: Also reached Act II - love it.

I've expressed my dislike for the City before, the sewers were pretty bad too. Playing solo in the city is like suicide, I've stopped buying Medkits and just let myself respawn now because it's actually cheaper that way to heal.

Could that be the v-sync? Have you changed the control from analog to digital?
