Assuming you have a widescreen LCD monitor, 90 is a good number.

Sorry I am still catching up with my reading on this thread. So I am playing the PC version but on 50" plasma. Does that mean lower FOV is better for me?

Beat it today on PS3. I never downloaded the patch either. After it was released, I just stayed offline because I did not want to have my trophy progress erased. Thankfully, I did not run into any save issues. The only real issues I had was some stuttering/pauses here and there and how the game would sometimes spawn you right in the middle of mobs. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience.

On the plus side, I really enjoyed the inventory management and weapon modifications. These added a nice layer of RPG depth to the game that fit like a glove with the survival aspect. Also, there is a lot to be said for the pacing, the sheer brutality of the zombies and combat in general. While it does start to wear a bit thin by the time you get to the prison, it is still quite satisfying all the same.

Overall, I think it is a flawed gem that has some incredible potential. Despite the lack of polish, this game has a great foundation to build upon and a lot of room to grow into something truly great. I'll give it a solid 7.5, which to me equates to being very good, but not without it's share of flaws and lack of polish.

There is absolutely NO excuse for his game to not have a manual save option. What the hell were they thinking? This HAS to be patched on all versions.

Supposedly a work around is to go to your configuration and change from digital to analog and exit the menu and it saves. I haven't tried it myself but its what some peoplehave stated.

Yeah...that save thing is a goddamn annoyance in an open world RPG. What the hell were they thinking there?

Other than that, I'm having a blast. It's about time they started playing around with the genre a bit.

Finally finished it at around 25 hours, pretty much just rushed through the last 2 Acts. I didn't play co-op at all and I finished at level 35.

+ graphics, they were amazing at times

+/- combat. It was fun for a while but not deep enough to last 25 hours, it got old very fast.

- quests. Everything was a fetch quest, an escort, or a kill ___ number of zombies. They were awful.

- launch day. The game ended up working fine but I will not excuse the launch day BS. It's simply unacceptable to send out a fucking dev build, and then cause further problems with the patches.

- relatively empty maps. The areas were massive but very little of it had anything to explore or anyone to help. Most of it was just there.

It was a pretty damn boring game overall. Not much to do in the huge world, and the quests that were there sucked. The last Act drags on forever too. I'd probably give it a 4 or 5 if I was actually reviewing it.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Think I'm done with this game... just kind of too bored to continue. Honestly, it's funny that the bugs didn't stop me from playing, but what actually ended up being the last straw was the soundtrack and fake zombie noises while you're in the city. It's so annoying and grates on my nerves. I got a headache from it. Plus the game just (imo) wasn't fun anymore.

Console owners had yet to receive it though. And those patch notes we given to D'toid with their 360 review copy.

I hope it resolves the save issues.

Save issue won't be fixed until the second patch according to the tweet.

After reading people here say the patch made things worse for them on the PS3, I hope the same isn't true for the 360 patch. I'll be pissed if the 50+ hours I put into this game was ruined due to some patch.

I'm actually hoping (naively, I'm sure) that the day one patch was delayed this long in order to make it a more all-inclusive fix, including save game issues. I doubt it, though.

Pretty decent game, but clearly it's for co-op. Which is a good thing but in singleplayer it is kind of tedious. Need friend chatter to spruce things up and intensify situations.

Also wtf @ the bulletin board that says "John McCain's daughter is in Toronto"

I find the single player just as enjoying

that's cool and all, but I certainly don't. The situations are too easy, and things get significantly hairier with 4 players and enemies at 2x health and shit. And of course, with other survivors, it feels fluid, like you're actually trying to survive with some other real people instead of limp A.I. characters that for some reason want you to do everything for them

The city gets really hard solo, but Act 1 was pretty easy. I'm still surprisingly into it when I go solo, which I could never do in something like Borderlands.

Singleplayer is great so far. Sense of freedom, exploring and danger is quite unique.

yes. I play on a 42" sitting 2 feet away. I set the FOV to 72 and it is very nice

Currently on act II strictly playing coop with a buddy of mine, seriously loving this game. How many acts total?

Act 3 is the longest, and my favorite IMO.

I felt like this game got better and better as it went on. Recent RPGs that I played had the best hub at the beginning and everything after was mediocre in comparison.

Holy shit, really? I'm 22 hours in and still on Act 2.

Alright so I'm almost 13 hours in, level 24, Act 2
just made it to the town hall
. Solo-ing with Logan and aside from a few odd quirks, I'm absolutely in love with this game. As for anyone thinking its easy by yourself, just wait till you get to the city. It gets much harder and much more intense. Act 2, for me has been a zombie fans dream. I've never felt more overrun at times and truly had the urge to run as I have in this game. I am terrified running through the streets and turning corners becomes something of a worry and sometimes there is just so many of them.

My only issues so far and its a minor one is that there is a cutscene late in act one where suddenly it just shows all the survivors together. No mention of them knowing each other or working together the entire time and suddenly boom, they're there. I guess they just couldn't figure out a proper way to have all the characters meeting in the story considering you can co-op this the entire time. I mean it could have been easily rectified somehow via a begining cutscene, like perhaps they all wake up in the same room, which I'm guessing at this point you just have to assume? Who knows.

Then of course there is some odd performance issues and glitches though I have yet to experience anything majorly bad. Just some item menu issues from time to time, and a couple quests not registering at first but then working out just fine. I did also get the new patch last night and things seems just fine, now the respawn time is 7 seconds instead of 5 I noticed. I have not had any saving issues as of yet.

As for the quests and structure of the game. While I realize that alot of the quests are similar. Go here, escort this, bring this item here, get this for me, etc. For some reason I think it feels extremely appropriate in this situation. I mean what would you be doing in a real life zombie apocalypse so to speak? Helping others survivor. Getting supplies. Protecting people. Killing zombies. I just think it messes well within the context of the game and its setting.

For me, this is a zombie game that I absolutely love and adore. I have been hooked since I started playing and I already wanna play as another character. Its a shame people are having worse issues with the game because underneath it all is a great concept and idea and I can only see better zombie games coming from this very idea. Be it another dev brings out something similar, or techland brings up Dead Island 2, imo this is a staple in the zombie genre.

I think I'm about half way through Act 3 and it's been my favorite so far. It made me want to keep playing after all the awful experiences I had in Act 2.

Yeah, Act 3 is far better than 2.

Act 2 was good (the setting was amazing) but getting ANYWHERE was such a pain in the arse. If you're playing as Xian you can just sprint everywhere, but anyone else has endure the endless encounters.

I can outrun nearly all encounters with Sam B, and besides, carrying around meat bait makes things a breeze.

Looks like we shared the same experience. I especially agree with the 'quest' and 'combat' statements. Everything wore thin very quickly. Completed in jsut over 25 hrs but it felt a helluva lot longer than that.

Ohhhh :)

For those interested, the best place to get champagne (to trade for diamonds needed for the dev weapons), just travel in and out of the 'abandoned house' in the city, there are two fridges in the house that sometimes give you champagne.

Bought this after watching the Giant Bomb quick look. The customization and the optional analog combat sold me. I'm only an hour or so in so perhaps after 20+ hours I'll feel differently, but right now I'm absolutely loving the shit out of the combat. I can see how it might get old but right now it's awesome. Got the biggest "Holy shit are you fucking kidding me?" gaming moment I've had in quite some time the first time I really fucked up a zombie with an oar and the blood and guts started flying.

Kicking is really useful so far, especially if you lure the zombies out into the water and then kick them square in their undead foreheads. I got a pretty good laugh out of the fact that they can't even attempt to swim and end up just drowning themselves.

Still on act 1, loving Logan though.

It's a pity I don't have enough points to go up survival for boomeran, but I figured the combat tree was more important early on. I two shot most walkers with my throwing weapons.

Playing this with friends is awesome fun, solo it's definitely OK, but not nearly as good as with 2 more people.

Last night when playing though (360), we got the title updated installed - anyone know what the update consisted of? Tried a quick Google while the game restarted/loaded etc, but couldn't find anything good..

Gotta hand it to Techland with the PC patches.
Bought and played last night with no problems. Only thing I had to do was force Vsync in CP.
Right away dudes were seemingly showing up in my game instance. Really fun and smooth!
Set it to offline though just to get my bearings and will probably leave the game open from now on.

Yeah when I went to check my time played I was honestly expecting closer to 40 hours. The last half of the time I spent felt like it dragged on forever, from about the middle of Act 2 to the end and that was with me rushing through most of Acts 3 and 4. I only did a couple of sidequests in each of those.

I'm really enjoying the always-on drop in/drop out multiplayer. I find myself usually using the side quests as an excuse to explore around an area, and jumping in whenever I'm in a main quest area and the game tells me someone else is nearby. I wish Borderlands worked like this.

One thing I'd like to see though is for the "someone is nearby" notifications to give you more information about what exactly you're connecting to - it'd be perfect if they could tell you how many other players are on that session, and what quest the host player is currently tracking.
