Near the end now, have a question.

I'm 91% complete (Act 4) so if you're below that, this is a spoiler:
When you get to the prison, is that it? you can't go back and tie up any loose ends? I have ONE sidequest outstanding, it will be annoying if I can't do it :(

Yes that is the last zone

Hrmm, I hope I didn't screw myself.

I went into the police station as part of the main story mission, but fast traveled out. There's no option to fast travel back, and now it won't show up on my map when I track the quest. I've no idea how to get back to the police station or which sewer entrance is the right one.

This sucks.

Late Act II spoilers. Got a question.

So I escorted Jacob or Joseph whatever his name is to the sewer entrance. I came out the other side to the City Hall and saw a cutscene where the protagonists are talking about helping the various people around the island. There is some dialogue where they pretty much slam on the 'people at the police station'. I mean I know there are some thugs holed up in there based upon what they're saying in the loud speakers... but I haven't actually been in there or had a quest to send me there yet. It's kind of weird that the scene implies I've had some dealings with the people in there. Did I miss something?

Also, when can I fast travel again or sell things after I first get to the Town Hall?

I was wondering the same thing myself. Next time I got back to town I scoured the entire city district and couldn't find anything.

You know, I thought the same thing until I realized that no matter what happened, every encounter was the same. Might as well just avoid encounters, especially when there really aren't any rewards for fighting and you have to repair everything after 3-4 encounters.

That's true to an extent I guess, but I'm still very fond of the combat system after 30 hours. Watching a zombie fly away from you after you smack it in the face with a 2 handed axe never gets old for me. Also I'm the kind of guy that stays the heck away from fast travel (and driving) as much as I can, so I guess that's why I'm slowly plodding along.

You won't miss it, don't worry. And yes you can to your town hall question.

So when can I honestly pick up the PC version of this and have no worries about losing my progress or items of other crap I've read about here since release?

A lost save would really ruin my evening.

What do i do with Diamonds and the LP2000 engine or battery (forgot what it's called)?

The diamonds are used for the secret developer mod weapons, not sure about the engine.

@ Nullpointer, the save issue is not present at all on the PC version it uses Steamcloud I think. Let me know if you want to get it and I'll give you a referral :)

I think the lost save business was for the PS3 version.

Will do. Think I'll sleep on it, but I could probably use some open world free roaming zombie killing shenanigans this weekend.

Fuck, this really sucks. I just spent an hour running around in the sewers but couldn't find the police station for the life of me. I wonder if my game is bugged and it won't even let me back in since I'm past the "enter the police station" part of the quest.

After you've been to the police station you can instantly get there from the gate in the city. There's a few sidequests that involve going back as well, check around the safe zones before doing that to lessen the load.

My friends and I beat the game. I was level 37.. our highest was 41.

Anyway...
worst last act ever. How absolutely terrible. End boss we slashed down in about 10 seconds. And in reality, the enemy variety by the end of the game is just piss poor. They could easily have added a few more types to the game.

On the bright side, some of the later mods like the Phoenix mod combined with fire axes in the prison make for some awesome weapons. I played Logan, and throwing weapons, while a pain in the ass, works exceptionally well. He is def the hardest to play as though, and many of his abilities just aren't worth the points.

Story is shit. I'm slightly interested in the next game, assuming they make one. The entire end scene was just...meh. I sincerely hope they do something about their facial animations in a sequel. My god they were awful. Was that prisoner smiling all evil in the end? Was I supposed to think he was to blame or something? Or is he actually someone else? Was so detached and in awe of the shitty animation I couldn't figure it out.

Combat throughout the game is just awesome. I really enjoyed it. Planning on doing my next run through as Sam B. Love the blunt weapons. I hope once they get the last bug patches done, we can see some kind of DLC.

Holy fucking shit!!!! Act 3 Easter Egg spoiler:
Jason is the scariest thing in the game so far - he did not stop chasing me, cut me down with one hit each time (like 8 times, so around $25k lost), and can apparently fly up hills while my character treats the hills as though they are completely vertical. I had to sprint away from him for what seemed like one minute to finally find some solace in the form of a truck to run him over with... for 63XP and a Flimsy Machete. -_-

Still, it was a terrifying experience.

I don't do co-op most of the time, it makes games worse. But like I said in the other thread if a game is bad in single player then it's not worth playing at all.

You're an extremely weird guy! So even sports games are worse in co-op? If the answer is "no, of course not", then why could there not be other types of games that are also suited better to co-op? Dead Island is one of those games, just like, for example, Saint's Row 2. Experiencing the wackiness with a good buddy makes everything 100 times more fun because you can both comment on and laugh about stupid stuff that happens.

Okay, I really hope someone calls out Techland about the 'Being online" to start the game, even in Steam Offline mode. They need to fix this shit. Shit is bullshit. Internet DNS was down yesterday and couldn't play it at all.

Also, I think I prefer digital combat more than analog. Had more consistant "breaks" by just lining my reticule on body parts, rather then trying to hit it with the RStick.

Well I basically figured from what they were saying on the loud speaker implied it enough.
They don't give two shits who's alive and doesn't matter, its their turf now and stay the fuck out or else your gonna pay
and if I got that vibe from even just a loud speaker announcement, I'd say fuck em as well.

How are you guys finishing the game so fast? Rushing to every objective marker while in coop? I'm playing solo, I've just hit level 32, around 30+ hrs and I just started Act III. I love walking around, soaking in the atmosphere and I almost never run away from confrontations because whenever I do, I always turn a wrong corner and end up getting surrounded.

25 hours, lvl. 33, solo. After Act 2, I really cut back on the side quests. And during the ACT2 area, I avoided a lot of fights. I enjoyed ACT1 the most and after that it just went downhill. Still fun, but not the omg of the first act.

Yeah, I fucking LOOOOVE the jump in/jump out nature of the gameplay. Completely reminds me of Dead Rising and Crackdown in that regard and can totally see myself playing this for weeks in small bursts.
Like I said, just fix the damn mandatory net connection to start the game (if you lose connection during, your fine).

Really? While I liked Act 1 visually I felt that it lacked the intensity of a zombie apocalypse. Act 2 really had me sweating at quite a few points, lots more swarms and claustrophobic areas. Turning a corner in the sewer to find both a Thug and a Floater waiting for you is nerve wrecking.

I like this game much more as a solo experience, in coop we tend to rush quests, running off and doing separate stuff etc. Also the overwhelming feeling of loneliness is lost.

My enjoyment of this went rapidly downhill by endgame. Eventually its monotony got the better of me. Oh well, time to replay with a different character!

Engine parts are used to craft the Tesla Mod a lvl 4 shock for sledge hammers.
You get Sam B's epic Gabriels Sledgehammer leveled to your current level as a quest reward from the Nun at the church later in act 2

UPDATE #11 17/09/2011: Changes in v1.81:
  • Replaced the keyboard hook-based micro-stutter fix with a FilterKeys one. Should fix any issues people have been having with weird sound or framerate issues when this tweak is active.
  • Updated the disable bloom, weapon refraction and dust tweaks to use the files in Data02.pak. This should hopefully fix the issues people have been having where effects seem to disappear while these tweaks are active
  • The auto-update feature can now be disabled
  • Laid some groundwork for an in-game save feature. Should be in for v1.9
  • Added a periodic check for the Dead Island process that will set the process priority to “Normal” if it ever drops to “Below Normal” or “Low”

I'd been trying to hold off opening this game until the save issues were completely addressed, but I caved last night and gave it a shot. I only played for about an hour and a half, but I could see myself really loving this game. The combat is very satisfying so far, and the convincing sense of place the game creates is fantastic.

My only concern (aside from losing my progress) is that it will get frustratingly difficult as I progress in solo. I have no interest in co-op, so hopefully it will remain enjoyable. Great first impression, regardless. I can't wait to play more.

I chose Xian, by the way, for her increased stamina.

It gets a little bit hairy starting from the second act but you will know when to run and when to stay and fight. On act 3 now and it hasn't been that hard at all doing a solo run.

Sports games are the worst forms of co-op. There's nothing worse than trying to play on the same team with another human player, it's all kinds of sloppy and uncoordinated.

The only kind of co-op I'm ok with is stuff like Uncharted 2. Things that are outside of the single player and seperate, but when you have co-op that works in the same world as single player then more often than not it's designed to be played co-op and the single player suffers. Dead Island really suffers from that because it's very boring alone and the quests are all fetch and escort quests like a MMO.

I lvoe Act II so far, great tension when playing solo I think. I am also not having problems going through the sewers like others mentioned, I quite like it.
I am playing Logan because I liked the idea of throwing. I have not spent any points into fury yet, should I? Boomerang is quite neat (30%)

Yes... it's bull shit and I feel cheated. It's pretty much Always-online DRM at this point (i'm not sure if they intended it to work this way). It was definitely not advertized as such.

Your crazy about the digital combat. Makes the game boring as hell.

The worst thing about it is that it was some random co-op partner that initiated the sequence, I was elsewhere looking around but I could see the warning at the bottom of the screen. FFS.

Oh well!

Yep. No fast travel here. I like to take in the scenery, explore, and obliterate every zombie I come across. 20+ hours in and only completed the first main story quest and a few sidequests in ACT II.

Yeah act 2 has some really nice atmosphere and frantic pacing. The sewers didn't really bother me all that much as well. Also I've got his boomarang move to 30 and working towards 50% now. I also went down the middle path a little but have barely touched his fury. Though I'm sure his furry along with others can be a life saver at times, I just decided to up a few things in Fury but leave it pretty basic. I wanted Logans health regen but the fact that you have to get drunk in order to use it is off putting. Damn alcoholic. lol

I figured there was something to check out back at his cabin, but by the time I had returned, he had respawned and I was forced to run away again. lol

Northern part of the Jungle. There's a bridge with a female survivor on it that needs your help to collect medical supplies that fell off. He's on the ground level to the north of this location at a creepy looking shack.
