Dead or Alive 5 Last Round PC Information is Finally out

The menus/character select seem to be fine. I can navigate those with no lag at all. But when a match actually starts up, it seems to be running at a locked...sub60 fps. No matter what settings I choose (1366x768 nothing turned on vs 1080 with shadows and 4xFSAA), the game seems to be running at the exact same speed in matches. I'm not sure if the game is stuck at 30fps for everything and so matches are somehow being forced into 30fps or what, but something's off.

EDIT: I think that's what's going on. I'd been going straight into training mode, so I never saw character intros. Just tried a regular versus match...and the intros are running at normal speed at 1080/shadows/2xSSAA.

Continuing from this, I just remembered that Steam has an FPS counter now, and I found that in battle, the game is locked at 40FPS. Any idea what could be causing this? Game looks so good, even at 2/3 speed.

A lot of features? Particle Effects, Softskin Engine and 2 Stages? The only real damage to me was the stages. (Online is coming so I'm not including that here)
Even more than features the bigger problem is optimization. My friend has the game and he says the fps is all over the place (menus, character intros locked at 30fps) while the game is very CPU intensive (uses only one core) and the GPU usage doesn't go over 1GB VRAM. I'm not sure if he was joking about this but he can't remap the keyboard controls either.

The game is surprisingly optimized; there are people running the game on Intel Graphics.
Intros & menus are 30FPS, but in-game should be 60FPS. But yeah the keyboard controls can't be remapped, lol.
Has your friend tried remapping controls using AutoHotKey?

Lol so he was serious about it. Thanks, will let him know about that proggie.

Edit:
What's up with the ridiculous CPU requirement? Wonder if it'll work on a i5 750. Time to ask for steam library sharing lol

So for all the bad that has been aired, how does the game run downsampled? I hear that the menus and intros are still 30fps, for some reason, but those the actual performance scale well?

Also, how does it tax CPU/GPU?

60fps but some stages break with GeDoSato and the UI for me as you can see on a pic I linked earlier. Im messing around with it but overall the game runs well and no issues so far except the downsampling visual issues in a few stages which isnt much.

I dont know if that issue is just me but we should see more people.

3840x2160 (Downsampled to 1080p) / 2K Shadows / 2xSSAA. Running on a FX-8350 @ 4.1ghz with two GTX 580s in SLI (The equivalent would be a single GTX 780 I think?).

Locked 60fps in combat, GPU usage is about 70% in both cards). The 580s struggle a lot with 4k resolutions in my experience but they handle pretty well with this game.

I think the 2xSSAA is a bit overkill since I'm playing on TV and honestly it's very hard to see the difference. I'll probably turned it off so my cards can run a little bit cooler.

Well, that's not too bad. There will probably be some fixes for the UI issues later.

There's SLI support. Thank you, my SLI 770s aren't going to go to waste here. Thank you!

A guy on steam forums (DiZpel) posted this fix for 1440p (thank you dude that I don't know!):

https://fileshare.steffenl.com/d/ecfdec45fe/files/?p=/Releases/DOA5LR/Doa5lrResolutionMod-0.1.1.zip

Just add d3d9.all and mod_resolution.ini to DOA5LR folder, open mod_resolution.ini with a text editor (e.g. Notepad) and specify a custom video resolution (e.g. 2560x1440).

My results:
2560x1440, 2xSSAA, 4096x4096 shadows on GTX660
60fps locked, 75-95% usage, 1350mb VRAM.

vs

3840x2160, no AA, 1024x1024 shadows:
60fps locked, 80-99% usage, 1522mb VRAM.

Core 1 (3570k stock) 100% usage, core 2-4 15%.

Any way to take photomode screenshots without ugly blur (or dof?)?
Also how to fix messed up triggers and start-select buttons on xbone controller?

Just got the game downloaded. Damn, it looks good. Kept up 60 from the max settings that I played with.

The 30 fps with the character intros is so jarring. Is the console versions 30 fps or something? I see no need for the intros to be 30 fps at all.

4xSSAA w/ 4k + 4k shadow resolution does max out my 780 Ti so I might go down to 2xSSAA. With 2xSSAA, I was getting just over 50% GPU usage so I have no idea why 4xSSAA pushes it to 100% usage. I couldn't tell a difference honestly between the two.

SSAA is basically running the game at higher resolution then downsampling it to your resolution to eliminate aliasing.
At 1080p, 4XSSAA is like running at 4k. At 4k, its like running the game at 8k (7680x4320) iirc.

Actually, no. You have to force alternate frame rendering 2 in the nvidia control panel. Usually that method sucks because it causes a lot of graphical glitches in many games but it works flawlessly with DOA. GPU usage is even spread.

Bayonetta, I'm using Gedosato and I didn't have any trouble with the stages. The one in the cave that you posted earlier runs fine in my game.

Anyway, took some screenshots. I'm in love with the IQ of this game (considering I've been playing Jaggies - The Game for the past two years).

Its reassuring to know most of you seem happy with the games visuals and performance. I just hope the mods and online are up to par.
The guys at the Steam forums said there was a topless Momiji mod about. I guess it will just be texture swaps at this stage, but I still wanna see how good it looks.

Just in case anyone else runs into this problem in the future, I've figured out what was wrong. My laptop has an Intel integrated video card, and it had a setting that was forcing my monitor's refresh rate to 40hz instead of 60hz.

The solution:
Right click on your desktop, select "Graphics Properties". This should bring up the Intel graphics control panel. Under "General Settings", make sure refresh rate is set to 60 instead of 40. This setting affects refresh rate even when using the discrete card. Good luck!

Much thanks to RainierC on the Steam discussion forums!

I only had the time for a quick training mode session yesterday evening and damn it looks good. So clean compared to the jaggy mess of the 360 version. Are the extra costumes hidden? In the character select screen I have a couple of unlocked outfits for each character and 3-4 more to be unlocked, I thought there were going to be a lot more.

I heard that you need to clear arcade mode with particular characters to unlock all costumes (better in tag mode and rookie difficulty)

Thanks, I know about that but I was wondering if all the unlockable costumes are shown in the select screen or not, because I only saw a few of them and there should be a lot more (300+). I noticed that CPU opponents seem to use random costumes, I already met Zack with his Halloween costume.

What you see is what you have access to. The dimmed costumes with a lock icon must be unlocked. Everything else is DLC. Even without the DLC, there are at least 200+ costumes in the game.

And if Zack had his Halloween costume, that means you own it, I'm pretty sure. Did you preorder this game? Then you have the Halloween 2013 costumes as an apology for the delayed release.

The rest are locked. Just beat Survival mode in Tag on rookie several times over to unlock them.

The game looks great. If there was an online mode, I wouldn't have minded the missing features at all. This already looks like the best version of LR. 1080p +4xSSAA.

You don't need to pre-order to have the halloween set.

"In appreciation for your patience, we'll be offering the Halloween 2013 Set (28 costumes) free of charge to all users who purchase Dead or Alive 5 Last Round on Steam."

That's why it doesn't show as DLC unlike the pre-purchase reward set. It is part of the game now.

Knew it ! :p
Now... how does it run ?? :p

It runs 60 fps on an integrated card with 1080p 4xSSSA 4K shadows? That's hard to believe.

No, I'm running a GTX 870M. But even though DOA5 was running using the discrete card, due to Optimus, or something, it still had to go through the 40hz refersh rate that the Intel card had imposed on my monitor. Really dumb!

Oh alright. Then it makes sense I guess.

WiiU Pro with Mayflash adapter also works great, although I had to rebind A/B/X/Y due to button placement on the Pro Controllet.

They fixed that with the latest firmware update. You can now toggle between the button combinations in XINPUT mode. To change it to Xbox style, with the latest firmware press and hold START and B for 3 seconds.

oh yes, tried my poor 1360x768 and it works! Great!

You know, thinking on it: A lot of the Steam community is going "why don't Japanese publishers get it!? Why aren't they like Kojima and MGS5/Ground Zeroes with their ports?"

Thinking on it, I think my counter-argument would be: 1) Kojima's first "outing" wasn't really his and that port was locked 1080p (Revengence/Platinum's effort) and he heard the backlash over that. And 2) He visited Valve (or his team did? Or did Platinum? Forgetting), who are one of the proponents of the PC platform. At the same time, Platinum JP apparently Sent Durante's "letter" to people within Konami/Platinum Games to show what "the West"/PC gamers wanted in regards to features.

I don't think Tecmo and Team Ninja got that letter, nor did they visit Valve or get more information from what people wanted.

Now granted, their lack of info up until nearly two weeks from release is shocking and needs to be berated. I don't think a lot of issues people are harping about is really serious nor is it something that can't be corrected if people are polite and willing to send links/etc to Tecmo and Team Ninja on what "effort we want" from them in regards to PC versions. Especially in the future.

Just downloaded this from Steam. Runs like a dream downsampled from 4k to 900p using Gedosato (monitors native resolution is 1600x900), 4k Shadows and 0xAA (don't need that after the downsampling) at 60 FPS locked with the following specs (30 FPS in menus and intro/outro scenes of course, just like the consoles) :-

Intel i5 4690K @ 4.3 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB VRAM
16 GB DDR3 RAM

Getting 70-80% GPU usage with those settings.

Loading times are non existent. The criticism of this port has been overblown imo vis a vis the core game; the game performs as well as it should, and the minimum i7 860 requirement on the Steam page for the product is too high lol. Just like how Revengeance used to be for its minumum CPU requirement.

i5 owners, hell i3 owners should be fine with the game. The game seems to peg one core to 99% usage, barely touching the other cores and has poor mulithreaded balancing. Reminds me of how Dying Light used to be pre-patch.

I'm actually tempted to see how this does on my old ass Core 2 Duo laptop with a dedicated graphics card.

(my native resolution is 1600x900, yes I'm one of the few still running a sub 1080p screen)

I don't think it requires a super secret special Durante letter to understand that most people on PC want ports that are atleast on par with the console versions. TN are game developers. They are expected to understand things like this. It shouldn't require a public uproar to have basic functionalities such as online play there day 1.

With that said, the port still looks and runs great. I'd say it looks superior to the PS4 version even. But it's obvious TN took the cheap way out by porting the arcade version rather than the superior PS4 version. And for that, I believe they deserve criticism. But mostly, they deserve criticism for lack of understanding how the PC audience works. If you release a fighting game on PC, with no online in sight, then you might aswell release a skeleton, because the two are just as dead. It's that lack of basic understanding that frustrates me. But maybe they do understand this but simply didn't have the resources to make the port they wanted to make. TN and Tecmo operates on small margins. I guess this would be the most likely scenario. Shame it leads to a slippery slope with bad ports leading to bad sales and so on. Here's a screenshot to brighten up the post.

When my friend told me you can't remap controls in the game that made me actually wonder whether he's trolling me. This is just the basic control aspect that should have been there by default. It's just a bewildering omission from a pc port and there's nothing special about anyone wanting it especially in a fighting game.

How are you guys downsampling? The game doesn't load when I try to select any resolution over what my monitor supports.

You can pick SSAA (super sampling AA) 2x or 4x in the options or you use GeDoSaTo or your graphics card drivers to force it externally.

You can remap controls, you just can't remap the keyboard keys that represent buttons on a controller.

Which is hilarious, it's the first game where i can completely remap my controllers but have limited keyboard keys i can map stuff to.

Hmm.. Tried GeDo but can't seem to get it to work with this game. I must be doing something wrong.

Super sampling AA is downsampling, so if you pick SSAA 4x you already play at 4k, assuming you have a 1080p monitor. You only need external stuff if you want to go higher than that.

Hm, I was wondering why the hell I didn't have a .ini in my save folder and looks like the .ini will always be in your C: even if your documents folder isn't.

(and Marie Rose - perfect troll team)

I still get occasional drops to 44fps. I have no idea why. I'm forcing FXAA and AFx16 through the Nvidia Control Panel. I also am using Maximum Performance.

My Rig:

Intel I5 4690K 3.5ghz
16GB RAM
Geforce GTX 770 4GB

Also, is there a way to force ambient occlusion?

EDIT: I'm going to disable FXAA and AFx16 from the Nvidia Control Panel and renable FXAA through the Config menu and see if that solves my problem.
EDIT2: I think disabling Steam Overlay may help with the occasional slowdown.
