Dead Rising 2: Case Zero |OT| A Taste of Whats To Come!

Played through it once, also got the D ending, which basically means I failed horribly.

Really like the new targeting and throwing things control schemes. Also like the fact that things like money and ATMs respawn. The jumping still feels iffy, but a definite improvement over the first game. Guns feel awesome, the sniper rifle and shotgun are ridiculously powerful.

This has rekindled my hope for DR2, but I still thin I will get it for the PS3. Which renders me playing the XBLA game kind of useless.

What's with the Queen weapon?

Surely, you didn't play DR1 if you don't know the answer to that?

DR1 spoilers ahoy
The zombism is caused by a parasitic insect for Dead Rising. Destroying the queen causes all of the nearby larva to die and thus the zombies lose animation and die.

You know I just realized that Dead Rising 2 has co-op...the game is already addicting in its current state, it can only be better with co-op.

Loving it so far. The outlandish bosses were my favourite part in the first Dead Rising. Looking forward to the sequel to see what they have come up with this time. Case Zero turned me from not caring about DR2 to considering buying it. Fun!

It does? Thank God! If this is true it's definitely on my purchase list.

Over 100,000 players on the Leaderboards. I think Capcom is quite happy.
I think it'll really help sell the full Dead Rising 2 to people, so expect them to be quite very happy in a month or so.

Thanks for the list. Been playing it all day. The forumla is all here, which I'm pleased about. Nothing but zombie killing fun like the first. I'd say the graphics overall are a slight notch up, but there is some FR issues here. Only real issue I have at this point is the loading. Fix that and I will be a happy man. Oh yea Chuck is great. Will have to wait and make a judgement call on Chuck or Frank when it is all said and done. Oh yea and I like where they are headed with the story early on.

I just come off watching someone playing the first one at my in-law, the graphic and animation is much better than the first, the realy gripe is the load time. When will developer know to hide load time with interesting stat or something... may be display your collected "cards", you stat or whatever instead of boring loading screen. (I guess at least it's not black). I like the extra save slot and more toilets spot.

Yeah, bashing zombies head never get old.

OK, I did play DR a lot, but I never got to the story part I must admit.

Tried the demo of the paid demo.

Still feels like a paid demo. Which isn't bad, because I like Dead Rising, but yeah... not going to drop $5 when in a couple of weeks I can get the full game on PS3. Sorry.

yeah. no.

Game is a little easy for my liking especially concerning the survivors, it went from controller smashing hard which was good because trying to escort people scared out of their minds in a mall of zombies should never be easy to just running along screaming out to them in DR2/CZ

Speaking of levelling up, I had to reload a couple of times because I couldn't figure out how to get a second Zombrex, and I noticed that the perks you get upon levelling up seem somewhat random. The first time I reached level 4, I got an extra inventory slot, but the second time, I got a counterattack for when a zombie grabs you from behind. I'm now level 5, and still don't have that extra inventory slot. I wonder what this means for the full game. It would suck if the perks were random in that too.

Yes they are random, and they were random in DR1 too except for a few things.

I found it to be frustrating rather than hard to do.

DR1 was never a hard game. escorting a group of survivors was just unnecessarily wonky. they fixed it.

there will still be challenging achievements im sure, so we're all set on that front.

I didn't say DR was a hard game, I said escorting the survivors was hard (mainly due to the stupid AI)

I'd say so. 100k in a day is sick. They double that this week and you are talking about a cool $1 million. Maybe $5 is the sweet spot. :lol

Man, the engine powering this game is so bad. Right off the bat (during the intro cutscene) I knew something was awry when the framerate was unable to hold 30 fps during a cutscene with basically one character one screen and minimal detail. The framerate seems bad at almost all times. It's a complete mess.

It also looks quite a bit worse than Dead Rising 1. Inferior textures, models, and effects (no object motion blur?!?). The bad performance and slow loading times are like a kick in the groin.

MT Framework was still early back when Dead Rising was released and I definitely feel it could have ended up better had Capcom given it another chance. Loading issues were cleared up with MT Framework and data loads extremely quickly in all other games based on the tech.

It's a shame as the game seems like it could be fun and possibly better than the original. Hopefully they can create a competent PC port.

200/200

easily the best 400 points i've spent on an arcade game.

blue castle has done an amazing job of retaining the dead rising feel while adding crazy shit like alt attacks (kitchen and bowey knives are brutal).

i am so fucking glad that they didn't revamp the core gameplay, my only nitpick from a gameplay standpoint is that chuck is too slow. if they could just speed him up a tad at default then we'd be golden

as for performance i'm really disappointed that after 4 damn years and a new engine they couldn't solve the loading issues. i dreaded returning to the safe house.

also the slowdown could get really intense. to me while you're outdoors it never seemed to reach 30fps and panning left to right induces hefty amounts of slowdown. although chucks slow moving ass might skew my perception a bit.

anyways great lead into DR2 that really shouldn't be missed if at all possible. such a sweet tasty morsel and oh how i want more!!

Yeah you are right, the game looks much worse and runs much worse than the first game. How the fuck is that even possible? I don't know. It's bad, but let's hope the full version is better. If not, I'll probably hold out on buying it and pick up DR1 again somewhere.

Had a funny glitch on the end sequence / credits, motorbike and truck both failed to load so I was riding an invisible motorbike. Reminds me of Saints Row.

Finally got S rank! and 200/200.
I could drive around on the bike during the credits, I don't think that was meant to happen..
:lol

I have to say - this has really put the game on my radar. I loved the first game but never owned it (shocking I know), but I loved the micro-management aspect of it. The whole 'oh shi- I need to be there in ten minutes but that geek in the department store needs saving' schtick really resonates with that whole 'emergent gameplay' thing.

is spit fire still the best weapon in the game? it was amazing in Dr1. Fuck you and your invincibility clown *spit*

also i just preorder Dr2 on Steam 40 dollars, i felt like i was stealing.

These were in the original game. Same way of pulling them off too. =/

What's S-Rank? How could you possibly do better than A-Rank?

Woah so there is an S rank, huh. Pulling me right back in eh!

oh come on man, it's not THAT bad

I won't deny that there's things that Framework clearly does better here (which is a shame as yeah, that iteration of engine is like 3 years old). With that said, there are some things here that I find better, like the lighting engine, the animation which itself is in another league in comparision to DR1, and obviously the amount of zombies that are on screen.

Completely stuck.. I can't figure out
how to get the Broadsword from the Hunting shop. The door's locked and I've tried climbing as well.

Clearly I am going to fuck up my first play through because I only have like 2 hours left, as I've just been wasting time experimenting and killing zombies in various ways.

Climb the building to the right of the hunting store (when viewed from the gas station). There are heating units on the sides of the buildings and you can jump from the right building onto the left one. You can see a handgun on top of the air conditioning unit that you're supposed to jump to. From there simply drop onto the small slanted roof and make your way to the roof of the hunting store.

The lighting engine is still below the current capabilities of MT Framework.

The animation is better in some ways, but that's more of a design thing. MT Framework could deliver those same animation with per object motion blur.

So I didnt know this had co-op. Im sure its been say a bajillion times, but is this online co-op, or couch co-op?

At least online I know that much. Just saw a new ad for this yea totally hyped. I wasn't sure if they would deliver the core formula of DR1(some changes for the better), but they totally have and as DR fan kudos to them.

Personally I'm of the opinion it looks slightly better, FR takes some hits, but nothing I couldn't handle and the loading sucks. Latest MT would have done wonders here though. They are dead set on in-house only for it though. Fix the loading and I'll be pleased.

I'm just saying that there is nothing I see on screen that makes me say, "OMG this is total ass."
Engine's got problems like every other engine out there. Clearly Capcom felt it was good enough to replace their own MT, as that's why they hired BlueCastle.

Not to mention, this is a XBLA title, not a retail, so who knows, we might see some crazy shit in the full game that could have never been done on any other engine.

It's all relative

As someone who's actually replaying Dead Rising right now, I can assure you that, in it's current state, DR2 IS a better looking game ....though it should be as it's 3 years later =P

I thought the graphics looked fine. Could use some more drama here and there, but totally acceptable given the insane amount of zombies moaning about.
