Dead Rising 2: Case Zero |OT| A Taste of Whats To Come!

Yeah I corrected it.

Anyway have they said what combination items you can make in Case zero? Im assuming it will be the standard baseball bat and nails.

Will buy day one.

I'm pretty pumped about Dead Rising 2, and Case Zero should confirm if the wait is worth it. Ihope the performance issues get ironed out before the final release.

I've watched it and there are about 10 IIRC.

I am definitely buying this day one, and it is going to have a huge impact on my decision to buy Dead Rising 2. I remember being hyped but skeptical for DR1 but the demo completely sold me, and it is my favorite 360 game to date. I have high hopes but I am concerned.

I think more reasonable complaint might be "This is just a prologue cut from the main game, being sold separately to make an extra $5."

That said, I'm a sucker for Dead Rising and will almost certainly buy this.

Yep, I fully quote you.

Because if this DLC was for FREE, you could think this was a demo or a showcase, or a prologue story to be seen as a gift from Inafune-San.
Kinda second part of the Capcom Zombrex propaganda.
And this could be genuine genius propaganda-advertising.

But you have to pay for it. So it's not advertising. It's business.
You get a 2to6 hours product (so it's not a demo) for 5 bucks with achievements and all stuff.

But this could be the real prologue of the final retail game, so any angle you could look at this thing, we are talking about a a storm of 5$ that will arrive to Capcom's pocket for a thing you could play for free as a part of the final product.

It's not a scandal, I kinda appreciate this, the risk is that in the future any game will have a retail cost and lots of DLC scattered in time that will be probably foundamental to fully understand a story or to fully appreciate a product.
In the past you could have all this at ONE retail cost for ONE disk or cassette.

This is clever business, okai, but is this also "fair"?

Im sure they would say that if it wasn't released as standalone and charged for we would never have gotten it anyway in the main game due to time/budget constraints.

Pretty sure that was the line used for the Resi 5 extra DLC (altho that came out months after the game not a few weeks before)

This is basically a paid demo no?

It's never not fuzzy and sketchy. Would this prologue have existed if they weren't planning to charge for it? Perhaps additional resources were spent to make this happen. Or perhaps they just ripped out the beginning of the game.

The one who's to say isn't saying. And no one's asking. These things should be more transparent.

The thread title should really be change to "This is not a demo" I swear.

Oh and I read somewhere that Inafune actually wanted this to be free for everyone because they are not profiting from this, and that 400 was the lowest Microsoft would let them go.

Edit: And he mention it at Comic Con. http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/comment/dead-rising-case-zero-is-primed-for-an-august-release/
Capcom has laid out some solid details on the release date and price of Dead Rising: Case Zero. Similar to what we wrote earlier on the subject, Case Zero will cost 400 MS points ($5) on XBLA. We will finally be able to download this prequel/demo on August 31, 2010. Sadly, Case Zero will not be making an appearance on the PlayStation Network.

In a gesture of kindness or fear of backlash, Dead Rising‘s producer, and head of research & development for Capcom Keiji Inafune, said the company would not be making any money from Case Zero. Speaking at Comic-Con, Inafune explained why he went against Capcom’s wishes to release the game at a higher price.

Inafune felt the team had priorities other than making a buck. It wanted to give fans a chance to understand the events of Dead Rising 2 while providing them with a simple way to try out the game.

Case Zero can be played for free, but the entire game will only be unlocked if you purchase it. Your $5 will also give you the option of bringing all your outfits, skills and other bonuses unique to your character to the full retail game.

Dead Rising 2 is coming out on September 28, 2010 for Xbox 360, PC and PS3.

I noticed Rockstar said the same thing about the new Red dead content, if they really wanted to give it away for free they couldn't they just put a code to download it in the box when people buy the game? Would give people more incentive to buy the game as well.

I was wondering and I said. Well I won't get a sub but I will try this demo and since I have 900 points I'll use the other remainder on Wolfenstein I guess.

This is one of the few times that the whole HD generation DLC obsession seems to be producing something worthwhile to the gamer. No surprise that Capcom, greatest developer of all time, is behind it.

Only puzzling aspect is why this thing isn't on Steam and PSN as well...

The PSN I can guess why, to not sway early preorders because of the techincal issues

Only 2 outcomes to this

1) MS exclusive, they paid money or something
2) Experiment from Capcom to see if making a mini version of the game with achievements and carry-over stats will help sales or make more money, why make a demo for free when you can make a single one stage prologue 2 hours long using your game engine and make $5 per person off it?

Only two reasons.

Fairly sure Inafune said early on the 360 may see a little something extra and I would assume this is it in the end. Just like any other exclusive DLC deal really.

I'll guess i'll buy DR2 on 360 then.

Sucks, especially if the performance issues mentioned earlier are true. I'm interested in DR2, and I would prefer to get it on the platform that has Case Zero, but I would also prefer to get it on the platform that guarantees a smooth frame rate and clean graphics.

Is there a write up/preview or otherwise on said performance issues? Seriously what is the source on this I'd like to read them.

Dunno. I get game news from here and Giant Bomb.

Views of an old build and multiplayer mode contributed a lot to the sentiment that the game was turning out poorly. Then a single recent preview mentioned some slow down. Time will tell but I think the game will turn out fine for both consoles.

Well, the leaked version of Case Zero has some huge issues with loading times but other than that it seems fine... though I hope the zombies don't disappear like that in the full game.

I thinkt his should have been a preoreder bonus or something. Either way I cleared out most of my points buying 3 of the summer arcade games, so I am not buying another points card for this (espeically since I vowed never to leave a good amount of points laying dormant in my account after I got ripped out with that Cerberus network BS).

Seems like they just kept skipping cutscenes so it kept loading.
That's exactly what happened. People seem to forget the first game's massive amounts of cutscenes exactly like this. If you skip them all it looks like lots of loading. IE - the first time you walk into the mall in DR1 you have a cutscene, but you don't have that same load/scene every time you use that door thereafter.

slightly off topic, but does DR2 still have the same "everything must be done in a certain time" gameplay from the first? I hated that.

Yes, with the added bonus of having to give Katey Zombrex every 24 hours. :) Enjoy!

The video of the first 20 minutes of DR2 that was posted online showed loading problems without skipping cs. It seemed to be only a problem with cs, and roughly the same loading DR1 had, so it doesn't bother me. Capcom says they're working on the loading, but don't get your hopes up. It shouldn't ruin the experience, at least.

edit: If people are worried so much about performance issues, you might want to wait to see how the PC version compares. The video of the 360 version didn't look as bad, but the person who posted it mentioned framerate problems in some areas. It didn't look as bad as the PS3 video.
